so i’m trying to help my best friend buy her first car. she’s 21 and she doesn’t know that much about cars. she takes her driving test next week and she’s very excited she can finally get her own car soon.
we went to carmax a few months back just to look around. she saw this green mini cooper 2 door that she fell in love with. she’s adamant that it must be a mini cooper, 2 doors, have a back up camera, and it must be green.
i know bmw makes mini so i was worried about long term reliability. i personally have a 2024 honda civic sport. she thinks honda is okay but if she’s gonna make payments on a car it’s gonna be on something that she actually wants.
i’m not cosigning for her or anything i was just going to help her get pre approved and go with her so she’s not taken advantage of.
thanks in advance!
Looking a bit sad now, but how much would this have cost brand new
Mu first 1st rule
Hi yall my 2011 Mini clubman S has been making this high pitched noise on startup. Dealership told me the value cover is bad and they need to replace the whole thing for $1200. Is this accurate?
Just got back from my vacation and my driver side front window quit while in the down position :(
When I press the up/down window switch I hear something in the door trying to work but window doesn’t budge. Window motor and regulator swap?? Looking to order from mini parts direct website but open to suggestions. From my searching it seems that this was a common issue on previous generations but not 3rd gens.
Let’s start with I bought the car about 3 months ago. My first euro car.
Temps are between 207-245* degrees. Turbo was “upgraded” wouldn’t think it would cause this habit.
I’ve taken it to two shops. “Radiator holds 10 pounds” Along with a leak detector for carbon monoxide
Coolant does bubbles like an air pocket. I’ve bled it numerous times. No milk shake oil. Yet there is a sweet smell on the exhaust along with a small “cloud” of smoke. I’ve noticed that it doesn’t “backfire” as much anymore either it has a down pipe. And it’s definitely not as peppy as it once was. I’ve been debating on tearing it down myself. I’m a mechanic of 15 years. But hardly touch anything modern. Typically I work on cars from the 40s to the early nineties.
If the last few nights are any indication... the nice weather is almost over and another Michigan Winter is ready to settle in.
So my question is...
Do you switch to winter/snow tires in the winter or just really good all season all year long?
My current summer tires are on their last season, and Im trying to decide between buying winter tires and then another set of summer tires when spring rolls back around, or do I just get a really good set of all season to use through the winter and coming spring/summer?
What does everyone else do in the winter, and while we're at it... and suggestions for dependable (and not too loud) winter or all seasons?
Besides the dealerships, anyone know of any shops that specialize working on Minis? I’m in Connecticut.
Hello everyone! I have a Mini R56 2007 or 2008 (not sure). We bought it two years ago from a private seller for a decent price. Maybe then the price should have indicated that something was wrong with it, because after a week the ‘Check Engine’ turned one and turns out the motor had to be repaired which cost us half the price of the car. Yesterday I had to drop it off again at the repair shop - again a problem with the motor and we suspect it will be a substantial sum again… I’m wondering if it’s worth it sticking with this car or just getting a Mini that’s 2010 or higher.
Pretty close match to my JCW too
It’s a 64 plate (that’s late 2014) on 127k miles or a 68 plate (late 2018) on 72k miles.
Both 1.5l standard coopers (not One or S)
What problems do I need to look out for on these models?
A friend of mine mentioned the gearbox is horrible in ones like these.
I went to the forecourt and took photos so I could get the reg and check the MOT history and both have fairly clean MOTs
Posted sum headers I ordered for my justa and got thrashed in the comments on how I should just get a s😔
Does anyone have a MINI/BMW Snap-in adapter they’d like to part with? I am looking to purchase the adapter for an iPhone, specifically the universal or lightning adapter, but the older port for iPhone 4/4s could also work. Please let me know. Thank you in advance!
How normal is this idle rpm on a mini
Hey everyone!
Sorry if this isn’t allowed here. My girlfriends 2012 Mini Cooper is leaking coolant out of a sensor and I’m not sure which sensor I need to buy to replace. From looking around online, it looks like part number 13 62 1 433 077, but some websites say the part doesn’t fit the mini she has.
It’s the sensor on the metal elbow in the pic. Any help identifying would be very greatly appreciated!
I’m a new Cooper owner and I’ve had it for a couple months now. But since I’ve got it, it’s made this Whine here and there. When it does happen it’s after 3-5 Minutes of idling or when I’m coasting a couple minutes after starting then it’s good for the rest of the day.
I’m still under Warranty so if it’s a sign of anything serious it won’t be an issue.
So, sometimes I am driving and I can tell Its working a tad too hard to go. When I let the wheel go the car slows down too quickly and pulls to the right. But sometimes I can feel the car fix itself and start to drive like a dream again! I barely have it at 1.5 rpm and its going straight and is faster than when its pulling and its rpm is at around 2 just to keep up with traffic. And when its pulling at times it goes up to 2 rev just to stay steady.
Probably next week I am gonna be upgrading my already upgraded 2011 S with getting all the parts and I am wondering if I am missing anything. I currently running all the mods and a stage 2 tune.
R300 turbo Turbo install kit 3” RPM decat downpipe (to replace my Armytrix 2.5” decat) AEM CAI intake (to replace my DDMworks ram air and a Alta intake) WaveTrac LSD (or an OS Giken) OS Giken STR clutch kit (will hold off as my OEM only has 20k) Currently run a Turbosmart Kompact EM and a Forge FMIC and inlet hose
As I am already running a RPM Stage 2 through Mario, Detroit Tuned is gonna charge me only $200 to go to stage 3 and I am leaving my Scorpion exhaust is the biggest diameter I could find at 2.75”.
After spending $1400 at a dealer to install a new ambient temp sensor, front crank seal plus some ancillary with an additional $900 spent on a new window regulator as it was running my battery down (Issue is still present). After all is said and done I will have close to $10k in work done in the past month.
Anyone experienced a dead screen like this and found a fix? The radio works, rear view camera works and it is backlit, but the operating system won’t load up. The weather is crappy tonight, so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see if disconnecting the battery helps, but I’m hoping there’s a quicker, easier fix than buying a new screen
