Recommendations for companies AC quotes

Hey all! The house we bought came with a swamp cooler and needless to say it was not sufficient this summer 🥵🥵 we are wanting to get quotes this winter on options for AC before next summer comes. Who do you all recommend for this? Looking for reputable companies that won’t rip us off on the cost. We’re likely looking at the multi split route.

Thanks all!

Thoughts on Clover Basin and Fordham?

What is the general feel/vibe and community of S Fordham street and Clover Basin? Is it a low-crime area? Sense of community? Are there any development projects coming down the pipeline there?

Driver’s License

Hi all! My spouse and I just moved here from Ohio for his job. We went online to look at DMV hours and it appears that we have to have an appointment to get a new license and the earliest appointment is not until 12/24/24. Does anyone know if there are ever any walk ins or anything like that? In Ohio-we just would walk in to get a license and plates so we are new to this and just don’t want to mess anything up, haha! Thanks in advance for any advice!

Grandview Meadows or Sky Rock?

I know, I know. Neither are the most ideal options per se, but as far as I can tell they are the most ideal options for me and I need help deciding between the two.

Here's why I think these two are best:

  1. I need as large of a 2br I can find (asap) for absolute maximum of 2,000 (it is not possible to do anything at all above 2,000 due to voucher restrictions).

  2. I need a place where I can occasionally smoke in the balcony.

  3. it is imperative that a peaceful walk with my dog is possible steps away from my front door.

  4. I want to live somewhere I can walk my dog around the complex late at night and not be concerned for my safety.

I lived at Grandview Meadows last year and it checked all of those boxes. I know it doesn't have the best rep, and there were definitely things I didn't love about it (but that's anywhere, right?) but looking back, people were kind, it was chill, never had a problem with management (even got almost my full deposit back), and most of all, since I worked from home, I loved both nextlight access and peaceful nature-y mid-day strolls. Plus the bus stop right there and shops right down the street. I got shit cell service there and once had my car broken into (I stupidly left it unlocked so my fault, and fixed when I got a garage).

It doesn't seem like Skyrock is generally recommended in this sub, but is it really that bad? If I was happy at Grandview Meadows, would I like it there? Perks of Skyrock is that I could get a 2br plus a loft, it's right by McIntosh lake, close to Lyons where I go often, and seems like the consensus is that smoking wouldn't be an issue. Is it safe? Loud? Is there a younger-adult crowd (which would be nice)? Is it really bug-infested? Is it too remote if the person I'm living with (19 year old) doesn't have a car?

Thank you in advance for any insight, opinions, stories, or advice!

Be leery of scam calls regarding Jury Duty.

Just a heads up! I tried to cross-post from the Boulder sub but could not. The caller is a man who sounds quite police like posing as an employee of Boulder County Sheriff. They even will spoof the number for the sheriff's office. We got a call today about 4:45p. We hung up and called back to the sheriff's office to get the after hours message. Just a PSA.

It's really pretty here

I've only been here for 4 months, but it's so pretty here. People have been so nice, too. I'm sorry to be invading as another transplant 😅 but I appreciate all we've managed to explore so far. So thank you for being kind.

Suggestions for a personal trainer

Hello Longmont! Hope your Thanksgiving was all you wanted it to be. I am looking for a personal trainer that could meet me at the Rec center twice a week for a thirty minute workout. Someone who can show me how to use the machines to get a good cardio workout and maybe even build some muscle. Thoughts?

Cyclists, how bike friendly is Longmont?

Hey there! My girlfriend and i are moving to the area sometime soon. I’ve been working there for a couple years and want to move closer to work. I was hoping to be able to commute to work on bike, and I’m wondering how comfortable you all are biking on the roads? What streets are best? What should I avoid? Any advice, information, suggestions, etc. are much appreciated. Thanks yall!

Longmont Through Traffic

Boulder, Louisville, and Lafayette have all had their cities traffic eased by rerouting US and CO highways off of their 'main street'. Boulder's Foothills Parkway, Louisville's CO 42, and Lafayette's US 287 projects all moved heavy traffic away and created useable spaces along 28th St in Boulder, Main St in Louisville and S. Public Rd in Lafayette. Both of the L towns have had their 'main streets' freed up from traffic and become very useable streets.

Isn't it Longmont's turn to get US 287 routed around town. Could this project be combined with rerouting east county traffic heading to and from the Diagonal. Twice a day traffic jams at each streetlight along 119 (Ken Pratt Blvd) slows commuters and add to the exhaust issues.

Just a crazy thought after spending a pleasant afternoon shopping and eating on S Public Rd.

Wednesday Wellness Check-in

Happy Wednesday my longmonster crew!

We're halfway through the week, getting closer to our favorite Friday virtual group talk and this week Black Friday! So before you body slam your neighbor for the bogo brik-a-brac, join us in some radical authenticity.

This week is Thanksgiving, A time for all of us to reflect and give a moment of thought towards gratitude. In honor of Thanksgiving and our complex history of the holiday, I'd like share a Land Acknowledgment.

I acknowledge with respect, that the land we are on today is the unceded traditional and ancestral homelands of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute Nations and peoples. This was also a site of trade, gathering, and healing for numerous other Native tribes. I recognize the Indigenous peoples as original stewards of this land and all the relatives within it. As these words of acknowledgment are spoken, heard and read, the ties Nations have to their traditional homelands are renewed and reaffirmed.

This sub is all about community, so let's spread some joy or commiserate. No judgments! I only humbly ask for radical authenticity. Please share what you're grateful for this week.

How's your week 48 2024 doing?

In home euthanasia?

Can anyone share who you’ve worked with for this unfortunate task, including costs and your experience? I’ve heard good things about caring pathways, but I’m also pretty tight on money right now and as long as the provider is decent I’d really like to find the lowest price possible for doing it at home

LPC Lowers Renewable Rate

My thanks and appreciation to Longmont Power & Communications and the City of Longmont. Not only for supplying all citizens affordable and reliable electricity and gigabit fiber at low prices, but also for lowering those prices. I just received a notice that since renewable electricity is getting cheaper to produce, our renewable energy surcharge will drop 66%. That's a decrease from $.0312 to $.01034/100-kWh. A private power company would have had an increased profit, our municipal utility lowers it’s prices. Thank you!

Reputable, responsible gun shop nearby?

I've inherited a very old .22 rifle and don't know the first thing about guns. I'm looking for a place to have the rifle checked out to make sure it's operational, to learn how to use it safely and responsibly, and maybe even buy some ammunition for it. The gun shops I drive by in town don't seem too welcoming to a person like me so I'm looking for recommendations of gun shops that are sensible, reputable, responsible, and welcoming in Longmont or nearby communities.
