The guy outside Marshalls playing the violin is completely faking it

My daughter plays the violin and she noticed right away that the guy doesn't choke up on the neck of the violin when he plays high notes. I watched him for a while and she's right. When the music tremelos, his hand is stiff. He even removed his hand from the neck of the violin every now and then and the music continues. He's fake playing the violin. LOL

Considering Longmont

Hi everyone, I've been reading this sub for quite a while and get a very lovely feeling from all of you. We've recently made the decision to move to Colorado from Nebraska. My husband and I have always been split between big city and in a box in the middle of nowhere (I joke, but he loves open space.) Longmont seems to be the perfect compromise in that size and placement aspect. He's an electrician and I work from home on software. We have a wonderful six year old, too, and she's a big reason for this move. We want her to grow up in a safe community where she's supported and accepted, and live in an environment where she can thrive.

Good schools and a welcoming community are super important to us, especially if there are small businesses and local fairs, markets, and the like to support. We're big into the outdoors, hiking, and off-roading with our Jeep. We love to travel, so the proximity to the airport is perfect, since we're currently driving an hour to/from Omaha now.

Admittedly we don't know enough about Longmont and plan to visit over our daughter's spring break this year to hang out and bop around. What else can you tell me about your big, little city? Thank you in advance!

Edit to add: I'm also avid in cross fit and my husband likes to play games, he's currently into Magic. My daughter is also big into rock wall/boulder climbing.

Edit as update: Thank you all for the thoughtful responses. We're eager to checkout Longmont and have good feelings this may be our next home. <3

Missed leaf collection ?

I live in South Longmont and our bagged leaves were supposed to be picked up last week but they weren’t. They’ve been out since Nov 3 so I don’t think I missed the pick up window according to the published schedule.

Anyone know if they will be making a pass to pick up this week? Bags are pretty soggy at this point.

Do any hair stylists in Longmont cater to fragrance allergies?

I'm in need of a new hairstylist! My last one closed shop like a month after I got my first haircut from her and I struggle finding people I trust with my hair because I got a really bad haircut from that great clips on hover like 7 years ago. I didn't even know it was possible to get a haircut so bad it'd make me cry but man she did it.

I need someone who can do a really solid haircut first that won't try to hide a bad haircut with a lot of styling. I'm most comfortable in the $65 range but anything under $100 is manageable.

I normally just wash all the product out of my hair after getting it cut so it's not a total deal breaker if they don't use fragrance free products as long as the stylist is good but it would be nice to just find a one that does have the option. I had a barber in Boulder that never used any fragrance when I kept my hair short but I've grown it out since the pandemic and I don't think he'll do longer hairstyles.

Best eyeglass frame selection with VSP insurance?

Curious where I might find a great selection of SMALL and great-looking eyeglasses frames at an optical shop that takes VSP insurance? Going to Boulder or a bit further afield is also OK!

Where Can I Dispose of Big Trash

My puppy ruined our couch so we’re getting a new one but I’m new to the area and wondering where we could go to dispose of the old one? I’m an NYC native and I’m guessing it’s not the usual routine of leaving it on the sidewalk until it gets picked up eventually. Thanks!

Taking yourself out to see Art

Hope everyone is hanging in there.

I'm hoping to start taking myself out on weekly "Art Dates," focusing on seeing and interacting with art of any kind (shout out to the book The Artists Way).

Does anyone have any suggestions for local art? I'm open to all suggestions. Can be public or private, free or paid, not limited to visual art but also music, dance, and craft.

Thanks in advance!

Emotiva home audio Amp repair

I've got an Emotiva XPR-5 Gen 2 and it's got some startup issues. I'm feeling it should be pretty easy for an audio tech to fix it up (ground issue, fuse issue). What is a good place to take a pre-amp in like this to get fixed?

Looking for Local Artist(s) that would do illustrative pet portraits

Hey there, fellow Longmonsters. We recently had to say goodbye to a newly-adopted kitten due to congenital problems, and despite our short time with him, we absolutely fell in love with the little guy. Unfortunately, that very short time also meant that we don't have many good pictures of him. Are there any local artists that do pet portrait commissions? We're particularly looking for a sort of illustrative style, with him exploring space, under the sea, etc. Thanks in advance.

Premade/family meals

Hi all! My family member who lives in Longmont broke her dominant wrist and will be unable to cook for the next 3 months at least. She’s an excellent cook and does all the cooking for herself and her husband and I feel terrible that she’s forced to make this adjustment. I am hoping some of you may know of small local businesses that do premade/oven-ready meals, preferably in portion sizes ideal for a couple/family? Or maybe restaurants that have good frozen or freezable take away options? Clean ingredients would also be preferred. I’ve looked into The Spicy Radish in Denver and Cultivate Kitchen in Boulder but don’t want to miss out any recommendations locals may have! If they deliver to Longmont that is a huge plus, but can also pickup if there are spots in Denver area you may know of. Thank you so much to anyone who has any ideas!!!

Ballot drop boxes and voting in person

It's election day! Regardless of who you support, it is critical that your voice be heard. If you have not returned your ballot yet, there are several drop boxes around the city where you can return it today...

If you have misplaced your ballot, you can also vote in person...

Experiences with Sunflower farms day camp?

We’re shopping for summer camps for 2025. Our kiddo will be 4 by then, and we’re hoping to find a mostly outdoor-type experience. Sunflower Farms day camp looks awesome, but I’m having trouble finding reviews for his age group. Any one have any experiences with them?

Car was broken into

Just had my fiancé’s car broken into, and although they only took a pair of glasses, it still feels like such a violation.

Please make sure to double check your locks !

It was in South East Longmont.
