Hi all,
I'm moving to Longmont (from Boulder) and buying my first home. It's a tiny one, but still, I couldn't be happier.
Does anyone have any resources they recommend for learning about the town's history? Or how you'd recommend becoming a part of the community? I've spent a lot of time there already and have always liked Longmont's vibe, but I'm curious as to how to start feeling like I belong, so to speak.
Any help is appreciated!
Edit: I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who has so far taken the time to comment. I've gotten some amazing ideas here!
Hey everyone! My partner and I live in TX, and we're really looking into moving to Longmont. We've got a list of apartments, places to apply, etc., and we'll roadtrip out there next summer to check everything out in person! But before we make the leap, I was curious. How friendly is it to black people? We're queer, and we know it checks that box, but I'm black and would love to live somewhere where I see people who look like me. Thanks!
Yesterday evening during rush hour (5:30ish) I had the pleasure of driving 287 from Broomfield to Longmont. (I admit I do not typically commute so I don’t know if this is common). There seemed to be a wreck near every major intersection from Baseline to Isabelle Rd. Is it always like this? Or did I catch it on a special evening?
Anyone know what’s happening here? Around 8pm traffic was stopped in both directions, probably 8 emergency vehicles?
I am a teacher in TX now and my family is looking to relocate to the Longmont area. I wanted some insight on St Vrain Valley Schools (I am a self contained SPED teacher) and was wondering if there’s any teachers (current or former) that would be willing to connect. A few things I’m curious about: reccomendations about schools/hiring process, what campus/district support looks like, how conservative the district is (in terms of things like book bans and teaching content), what’s the teaching union like, what’s health insurance like (cost/quality)
Thanks!
I'm ashamed to say that despite buying a sled last year my daughter has not been sledding yet. Even more worrisome my wife who was born in Florida has never been sledding either. So I'm curious where is the best sledding hill in Longmont.
Hello, this does not have to be in Longmont. If you have a financial advisor you like and don't mind sharing a recommendation, I would appreciate that.
Edit: not soliciting financial advice. Thank you.
If anyone knows one or has used one please post below. My sewer is still fine but its an older line thats half clay and half iron. The city installed a liner on a short section at the Tap last year. I’d like to get quotes to have a liner installed the rest of the way.
Happy Wednesday my longmonster crew!
We're halfway through the week, getting closer to our favorite Friday virtual group talk therapy and digital American ninja warrior exhibition competition.
Last week got a bit rough, and some folks were sent to time out. Please remember to be empathetic, respectful and kind. Sub rules of conduct apply to this post.
This sub is all about community, so let's spread some joy or commiserate. No judgments! I only humbly ask for radical authenticity.
How's your week 46 2024 doing?
I’m pretty casually thinking about taking some sort of martial art for general fitness. How many [edit: other, as in like me] middle aged true beginners will I meet? How much should I pay for a class? Where should I go? What should I know or consider while I’m making this choice?
Thanks in advance!
Good morning everyone,
My cat Wapiti came home with an abscess that opened up and now has a 1” by 1” deep open wound that I need to get looked at and treated but don’t currently have the funds for another two weeks until my next pay day..
I don’t want him to be in pain or suffer and playing witch doctor with cheap home care doesn’t seem like a good idea with this type of open wound.
Does anyone know of some services I could look into for cats that is for low income? Thanks in advance for your ideas and consideration!
Happy Tuesday....
Just saw that Yisel’s bar and restaurant has opened up on South Hover, where the broken ‘bread’ sign was. The website says they have been in Longmont for 10yrs but I can’t find anything about it. Where were they, or what was their previous restaurant?
Hey guys, sorry if the title is weird I really don’t know how to phrase it
My childhood cat is 17. She’s gotten very skinny and stopped eating and is hiding away. We know it’s time, we don’t want her suffering longer than she has to.
My mom and I don’t have a lot of money. And ideally, we’d like to have her ashes but we know there’s a chance we might not be able to afford it. So does anyone know where we’d be able to do that for the cheapest cost?
Noticed that unlike the older version which automatically sent a receipt email upon payment this new one doesn’t. Contacted support to ask and they said yes it does not do that but you can print or save the screen as pdf (duh) . Maybe I’m overthinking in but I think like any other payment portal (xcel, nextlight and so on) it should be sending it automatically :) I know just a very minor rant :)
Howdy. Curious where a vet might get a free lunch today?
Has anybody heard of any restaurants or bars hosting a Tyson v Paul watch party?
Does anyone have any suggestions for a private space for 25-30 people for a rehearsal dinner in Loveland or Longmont? I am already talking to a caterer that I would really like to use, but just looking for a space to host the dinner. Suggestions I am pursuing are The Roost and the Times Collective.
My daughter plays the violin and she noticed right away that the guy doesn't choke up on the neck of the violin when he plays high notes. I watched him for a while and she's right. When the music tremelos, his hand is stiff. He even removed his hand from the neck of the violin every now and then and the music continues. He's fake playing the violin. LOL
Hi everyone, I've been reading this sub for quite a while and get a very lovely feeling from all of you. We've recently made the decision to move to Colorado from Nebraska. My husband and I have always been split between big city and in a box in the middle of nowhere (I joke, but he loves open space.) Longmont seems to be the perfect compromise in that size and placement aspect. He's an electrician and I work from home on software. We have a wonderful six year old, too, and she's a big reason for this move. We want her to grow up in a safe community where she's supported and accepted, and live in an environment where she can thrive.
Good schools and a welcoming community are super important to us, especially if there are small businesses and local fairs, markets, and the like to support. We're big into the outdoors, hiking, and off-roading with our Jeep. We love to travel, so the proximity to the airport is perfect, since we're currently driving an hour to/from Omaha now.
Admittedly we don't know enough about Longmont and plan to visit over our daughter's spring break this year to hang out and bop around. What else can you tell me about your big, little city? Thank you in advance!
Edit to add: I'm also avid in cross fit and my husband likes to play games, he's currently into Magic. My daughter is also big into rock wall/boulder climbing.
Edit as update: Thank you all for the thoughtful responses. We're eager to checkout Longmont and have good feelings this may be our next home. <3
I live in South Longmont and our bagged leaves were supposed to be picked up last week but they weren’t. They’ve been out since Nov 3 so I don’t think I missed the pick up window according to the published schedule.
Anyone know if they will be making a pass to pick up this week? Bags are pretty soggy at this point.
EDIT: Leaves got picked up today 11/12
Hey I’m taking this girl out but she’s vegan and gluten-free. Does anyone have any good restaurant recommendations in the Longmont area

I'm in need of a new hairstylist! My last one closed shop like a month after I got my first haircut from her and I struggle finding people I trust with my hair because I got a really bad haircut from that great clips on hover like 7 years ago. I didn't even know it was possible to get a haircut so bad it'd make me cry but man she did it.
I need someone who can do a really solid haircut first that won't try to hide a bad haircut with a lot of styling. I'm most comfortable in the $65 range but anything under $100 is manageable.
I normally just wash all the product out of my hair after getting it cut so it's not a total deal breaker if they don't use fragrance free products as long as the stylist is good but it would be nice to just find a one that does have the option. I had a barber in Boulder that never used any fragrance when I kept my hair short but I've grown it out since the pandemic and I don't think he'll do longer hairstyles.
Is there a place in Longmont where one can volunteer with others to cook for the homeless?
Found on Foco craigslist, house in Longmont

Curious where I might find a great selection of SMALL and great-looking eyeglasses frames at an optical shop that takes VSP insurance? Going to Boulder or a bit further afield is also OK!
I have a 2005 Ford F-150 with some timing chain rattle, I want the engine looked over and get anything major dealt with now. Who would you guys recommend to do a thorough job on this?
