Hi all!!! I am looking for recommendations for a good set of needles. I am asking my boyfriend for christmas for a set and I really wanna get something that is well rounded, well made, and not extremely expensive. I have been crocheting for over a year and knitting for just a few months. I have about three sets of needles, used for practicing swatches and beginning my first project: a scarf. I really want to begin working on garments and other accessories so I feel like getting a set is best for me. please help!!!
I feel like I legitimately have ADHD when it comes to projects because I have to have several going at once to satisfy my brain. I have not yet finished my second hat, but I started my third one with the knowledge I gleaned from the first two. There are still kinks, but I’m working them out to hopefully get a nice finished product.
The colors if you can’t see them clearly, go from a solid peach to a mottled peach, down to shades of blue. The darkest is navy and I put the bright blue on the end for interest.
I picked the peach because of matching my pinky skin tone, so therefore I wouldn’t necessarily have to wear a lot of makeup to blend in. The blue is for nefarious reasons. I think it will look awesome. I just have to figure out how I’m doing the rest of the hat.
Personally I think the hat would look more refined as a fingering weight design but it would take forever and I want people to enjoy this pattern.
Sorry if somebody already shared but KnitPicks is having a sale for 30% off everything until tomorrow. Just FYI!
Let me start by by saying love this subreddit and look forward to learning here. Literally this Thanksgiving weekend I decided to learn to knit, I'm a crocheter, and I think I got the handle of a few basics (casting on, knit and purl stitch nothing special). However I feel I'm struggling in finding some good tutorials that show how to do some other basic things.
Maybe my youtube algorithm or whatever just doesn't like me but some of the stuff i'm finding says its for beginners but they go to fast or the camera is too far away and I have a hard time trying to see what they're doing. What are some of your favorite videos or knitters a beginner can go to to really get a good handle on things?
I've googled this and found lots of tutorials for a single skein. I'd like to disguise the long skip from the strand from two rows before, if there's a method that does a good job of making it look intentional.
Christmas Socks for my Sister are done :3
2x2 Rib. 2-color broken Seed Stitch. Reenforced heelflap and gusset construction
I'm a beginner knitter (I usually crochet) and was hoping ya'll could help me figure out what I'm doing wrong 😭
So I'm making a scarf but am confused with how I'm supposed to do this first row...
The instructions say to use the long tail cast on method and alternate knits and purls for a total of 47 stitches which I've done.
Then for the first row it gives me this: (RS) SL1 wyif, * k1tbl, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1
I thought it meant that after I slip the first stitch and repeat k1tbl, p1 there will be a final stitch after all the repeats that I'd do a k1 in...but the final stitch always ends up as a purl 🥲
Am I supposed to skip that final p1 in the repeat section and do a k1 instead?
There's a similar question on the pattern's Ravelry page but it hasn't been answered yet (and was posted 13 months ago) so hopefully someone here can help :D
It's the Hallgrim scarf if anyone's curious ^^
Hi lovely knitters!
I'm looking to start my first colourwork project and I'm looking for any tips or advice for someone knew to colourwork. What's something you wish you knew when you started?
I'm planning to follow this pattern from Sirdar : https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/vest-10307
Is anyone familiar with the pattern or with Sirdar patterns in general?
What are your thoughts?
I’ve recently taken up lace work and keep losing the paper I have printed out with my pattern. I have really bad adhd and have to mark off just about every stitch as I go to be able to keep track. So I’m trying to find an app I can either manually enter a pattern or access raverly on where I can mark off each stitch as I go. I’m finding absolutely nothing.
Hi, I am just starting the sleeves for a jumper and am very confused by the wording of this pattern and would appreciate any help! When starting in stocking stitch how do I do the increases? Is it the 5th row, 6th row then 8th tow (for the middle size)? Or does it mean 5th row, then the following 6 rows and then the following 8 rows? I’ve got the wrong number of stitches currently and I’m confused! 😢x
I just started Alice Starmore’s St. Ciarán. Five cabled panels divided by a narrow cable. Four different charts, each with a different repeat. I made a card for each row of the pattern, with the order of the charts (A, B, C, D) and which row of each chart I work for that row of the pattern. I’m putting highlighter tape under the row I’m working on each chart. Ten rows knit, 409 rows to go!
Hi, I am working on a sweater and it says this about knitting the length of the body:
Work in the round in stockinette stitch until the sweater measures 46 cm mid back (excl. neck edge).
I don't understand what it means to measure mid back? Where do I start measuring?
What is the technique used to knit these protruding (brown) ridges?
Hey friends! I don’t usually do 2x2 ribbing but I think it looks so adorable on this kid’s sweater. For the bind-off, I went with the technique of swapping k and p stitches to get a 1x1 ribbing, did a round of double knitting, and am starting an Italian bind off (my favorite for ribbing).
What do you think about how it looks? I know the 2x2 to 1x1 will always look a little wonky, but it’s definitely not as clean as straight 1x1. Should I switch to a different bind off technique?
So im having trouble keeping the same amount of stitches. Im gaining stitches and im not super sure how, ive literally been knitting for like 2 weeks. i was knitting the other night, started with 20, ended up with 21 on the next row, somehow got to 24 on the next row?? I am counting the sticthes. I have no idea what im doing wrong
It’s from this free pattern
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/grabo---faux-turtleneck
It doesn’t say anything in the abbreviations at the bottom and I don’t think it means estimated
I am looking for a pattern to use with mohair silk yarn, and so some questions appeared - I would be grateful if you could help me here a bit!
I really like the portrait neckline of this sweater (Easy Like Sunday Morning by Sonder Yarn Co), but will the ribbing still look tidy and neat if I will take only mohair yarn instead mohair+dk? Is it possible at all to recalculate a pattern for using double mohair?
Are there any other relatively straightforward mohair sweater or cardigans that you could recommend? What about Cumulus or Cumulus o-neck?
Or alternatively will it be a good idea to use one mohair strand with tiny tiny strand of thin merino or alpaca to give the fabric a bit of strength, or it would only ruin the airy look without giving any structure benefits?
..that's what happens when you buy a pretty yarn before thinking and planning, sigh.
I’m looking to buy my mam some interchangeable needles for Christmas. I found some that I know she’ll love but just realised they’re small 5cm needles. Just wondering if the cord is the right length can she still used them on bigger projects? As the smaller needle will be handy for us to share when doing hats and sleeves but still want her to be able to make big projects if I’m using mine.
Thanks in advance, J
Hello everyone, I want to start my first cabled cardigan. I saw this cardigan in store last week and fell in love with the cabled button placket. I’ve been searching everywhere but can’t find a pattern with that detail. Does anybody have some suggestions??
Any recommendations welcome 🤗.
Hello all. I got a question for you; would you knit this sweater with two colors or do the octopus as embroidery? https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/embrace-octopus-sweater
