I am an American male knitter who was awarded a grant to visit Scotland to explore the history and culture of fiber arts in that region this summer.
One leg of my trip is visiting Fair Isle, spending a week learning machine knitting with Marie Bruhat. Unfortunately I've hit a snag; she requires two guests at a time and due to the close quarters I'd be staying in during that week, she strongly prefers a male being the other guest, which is reasonable.
Here is where I need your help: are there any UK male Knitters out there who are interested in spending the first week of June on a knitting holiday on Fair Isle? Or anyone who can reach out to their male knitting friends that would be interested?
The experience is one week, all expenses are included in the price, including travel between Shetland and Fair Isle. Marie teaches machine knitting, shows off the beautiful island, let's you even shear sheep if that's your thing. The cost of the experience is £2450.

I have two weeks from today to find someone, so please let me know! Being from bourbon country, I'll even bring a nice bottle of whiskey from the US as a thank you!
Do your thing, Reddit!
Didn't realise I had a North Atlantic theme going on until I'd finished these. Handwarmers and bunnet from Matti Ventrillon's 'Knitting from Fair Isle' and pot holders in the Islender/Icelandic style from Norway, by Anita Næss Wangen on Ravelry.
Yarn: Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift, and Drops Bomull-Lin
TL;dr Which circular needles don't 'catch' as the yarn moves from the cord onto the needle?
I knit a lot of hats, socks, cowls etc but always on DPNs because I hate circulars. That feeling when the yarn catches when it moves from the cord onto the needle 😢
I'm about to launch into my first sweater: body in the round, arms in the round, then all on one circular and raglan it up.
Which circular needle is going to change my mind, by being as smooth as hell?
Also, this going to be a small adult size (casting on 150 Aran weight). What length circular should I go for, bearing in mind I'll need to get body and arms on it at some point? And I don't want to do magic loop
Thanks for whatever thoughts you have 🧶
I'm doing the linked pattern in off-white (kind of a wheat color) and Easter purple for my sister, who's going off to college again next month. I figure she can use some Colors when it's snowing ten feet in Arizona again.
Wish me luck, this is like the fourth time I've started a new pattern for this...I have no attention span.
I want to use double end needles, as they look easier to use but Idk what size or make to get or what type of yarn to use, and what should I try making first. Thank you for any advice you can give me.
I’ve been on the hunt for a while now and I’ve seen posts like this be recommended this pattern linked below:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/skyes-traveling-cloak
And I love it so much that I actually bought the $10 ebook on my phone just for that one pattern and when I got to the page that should’ve had the pattern it instead had a link to a website that is no longer up so I spent $10 on some kids fantasy story and no knitting patterns. Anyway disgruntled tangent aside if anyone could point me toward a similar pattern my gratitude would be immense!!
