Another Christmas cowl done - the Mari Lwyd horse skeleton special!

https://preview.redd.it/neqpuizvh40e1.jpg?width=577&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b6fdb80898a2eddc2dfae211c85a4d525beaae7

I've just finished a new cowl design - I do hope the recipient likes it.

The Welsh winter wassailing tradition of Mari Lwyd, involves groups of men in fancy dress visiting private houses and requesting entry through singing. One singer is dressed as Mari Lwyd, a skeleton horse. The costume is topped with a horse’s skull decorated with ribbons. The singers and householders trade songs and insults before the wassailers are allowed in and given food and drink. Mari Lwyd chases the householders and prances around, both terrifying people and spreading blessings (some say of fertility and rebirth) while others put out the fire and sweeps the kitchen, symbolising renewal and a fresh start in the new year. Once the revellers have been suitably fed, they sing a final song, then move on to the next house.

I've popped the pattern onto Ravelry if anyone fancies having a go. Link in the first comment.

Knit/Crochet Deskpad

Thinking of making one but want to know how they actually feel under a keyboard. Is it too squishy?

Christmas designs I'm knitting for some of my weirdest relatives.

I've been working on knitting my own Christmas gifts this year for my extended family. I settled on making cowls (easy to knit in the round - no need to purl colourwork) - and to make them all a bit more personal I added a literary quote into the lining of each one - from Tolkien, Douglas Adams and Alan Garner in the case of the 3 in the photo. Pattern links in first comment.

Help making pattern, figuring out best technique

Hello!

I'm trying to knit a small (e.g. fast) little wall hanging for my friend that features the Fire Emblem: Awakening symbol. I've never really done color work before, though. Here's the image I'm trying to create, though not with these colors.

Can anyone help me figure out the best technique to do this, and help plot out the pattern?

Thanks!

I was told to post this here

My niece is a programmer at Google and she's pregnant with her first child. So I knit her the most logical baby blanket I could think of. It was very complicated, not gonna lie, but I'm really pleased with it.

Shima Seiki and Stoll

Just wondered if there were any knitting machine engineers or knitting programmers on this subreddit who had any experience of knitwear manufacturing using modern computerised flatbed knitting machines.

I want to start manufacturing knitwear so I'm seriously considering investing in a machine from either Stoll or Shima Seiki (specifically the knit and wear and wholegarment ranges).

My knowledge is limited to what little I can find online about each company's machines, their sales materials and some quick demos.

If anyone had any practical experience working with either company it would be really helpful.

Specifically, I'd be really grateful to know any thoughts on things like each company's:

  • prices
  • machine capabilities/limitations
  • machine reliability
  • learning curve
  • which company has better design software
  • training
  • after sale support etc

Any advice for someone just starting out in this would be really appreciated!

Any Stellaris knits out there

Hi!
I'm an avid knitter who also have been hooked on the Paradox game Stellaris.

I've been toying around with some Hive Mind patterns, and are working towards maybe making a hat, mittens or maybe a Fair Isle sweater with symbols from the game.

Are there any other Stellaris players here that have any projects or suggestions that they would like to share for inspiration?

I do tend to favour the Hive Mind / Machine build (:

Any input would be appreciated!

I released a new Tolkien inspired shawl pattern, King Under the Mountain

The King Under the Mountain shawl is an overall cabled, oversized, asymmetrical triangle shawl that decreases down one side. This shawl was inspired by the armor of Thorin Oakenshield, the King Under the Mountain.
