"vhagar is bigger but Syrax is quicker." This tiny line its self goes against her book character, here is a similar exchange from the book, "She dare not send all her dragons,” Aemond insisted. "That would leave King’s Landing naked and vulnerable. Nor will she risk Syrax, or that last sweet son of hers.
Book Rhaenyra wasnt a fighter, and she was entirely to selfish to risk herself, or Syrax.
Personally, I think Dreamfyre is such a fricken cool name. And in second place is Sunfyre. What's yours?
Studio interference is often to blame for projects turning to shit, but this was a rare situation where the opposite was true, in this case it was the creatives that shit the bed. it’s really surprising that nobody involved spoke up and said “hey, wait a minute, this is awful. What the fuck are you doing?” I guess the writers just had so much good will at that point that nobody questioned it?
This is a Monthly Free Talk thread. Feel free to discuss whatever you like!
When seasons 2 and 3 were first airing, what was it like seeing the Ramsay storyline play out? Was it clear that it was Ramsay torturing Theon and were you expecting the actual Reek to show up?
Is destroying something once glorious worse than never doing anything at all whatsoever? Is devestation worse than utter boredom? It's late and I'm sleepy so maybe that's why I can't clearly figure it out but I'm curious what do you all think? They're both just... so terrible.
These four got the most and lost the least. Other characters like Bran, Sansa, or Ser Davos may have gotten a lot of wins but they took some damaging blows along the way. Let's go over how each guy won:
Bronn: this man did nothing but win. He started off as some guy and ended up master of coin and Lord of the Reach. Nobody he cared about died (not that he really cared about anyone anyway) and he barely even got injured in the process. He's also the person to hit a dragon and live to tell the tale
Robyn: He began the series as Lord of the Vale and ended that way too. Sure his parents died but honestly that was a step up for him. Jon Arryns death made him Lord of the Vale and Petyr Baelish gave him the "push" he needed to grow up
Samwell: He did very well for himself over the series. Saved his girl, killed a white walker and a Thenn, became Grand Maester and pretty much saved the world by discovering what dragon glass does. All he had to do really was befriend Jon and he became quite lucky. While his Father and Brother were killed, he got over it quite quickly.
Gendry: A lucky guy all things considered. A rat did not eat his stomach, he got sucked off by Melisandre, got a good rowing workout, and survived multiple hard to survive events. Then he became the head of the Beratheons just because Dany was feeling generous. Honestly he could have put in his name for King at that council vote. Pretty good for an unknown bastard.
According to stark tradition, if Jon had actually gotten caught, wouldn't Robb Stark himself have had to behead Jon ? Since the "man who passes the sentence must swing the word". And wouldn't that be the most awkwardly tragic situation ? You try to help your brother, for which your brother has to behead you according to custom...
Anyone have a theory of what happened to HOTD season 2?
I know some people didn't enjoy season 1, but I did (save a few mishaps like the dragon coming out of the floor boards) and I'm just wondering why there was such a decline in quality.
Some fans have theorized, and even hope for, an ending in which the Seven Kingdoms regain their independence. However, this idea is thematically flawed and historically undesireable within the context of Westeros. Throughout Westerosi history, Targaryen unification led to a period of relative peace and stability. In 300 years under the Targaryen rule, there was only one significant civil war( The Dance of the Dragons) that lasted three years, three Blackfyre rebellions (most of which were resolved after a single battle), and Robert’s Rebellion. This low frequency of major wars caused to the decline of the Night’s Watch, as there were fewer prisoners or enemies to send to the Wall after conflicts.
The unified kingdom has also limited the Ironborn’s ability to raid, becouse atacking one region ment rebelling against the King's Peace, making their traditional way of life unfeasible in the long run.
Beyond practicality, though, a return to fractured kingdoms undercuts the thematic arc of the series. The fight against the Others emphasizes unity in the face of existential threats, underscoring that only a united Westeros can hope to survive. Therefore, while some fans desire a return to independent kingdoms, such an ending would be worse for peassant's lifes and thematically incoherent.
"Are you certain that I have not forgotten some? The ones about the king and his laws, and how we must defend every foot of his land and cling to each ruined castle? How does that part go?" Jon waited for an answer. None came. "I am the shield that guards the realms of men. Those are the words. So tell me, my lord—what are these wildlings, if not men?"
These were his/his mother essie's edicts
As it stands, Jamie’s “I never really cared” line undoes so much of his character development. Nevertheless, I think it had potential. Jamie clearly does care about people but at the same time has acted horribly selfishly - for instance by attempting to kill Bran.
I can imagine the judgement from highly respected people like Ned combined with his guilty conscience about sleeping with Cersei could make him second guess what kind of person he is. Did he slay the mad king purely to save people or because his house supported the rebellion? Did he come to Winterfell purely to fight for the living or because Brianne was there?
Personally, I think he did care for the people in the end. But, it would have been interesting to show Jamie’s apparent recidivism as some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. Or to show how deeply the judgement of others can affect our self image.
"Is this some squid game? I don't hear—" Suggs scowled. "Bloody hell. Riders." He fumbled at his sword belt, his hands clumsy in their fur-and-leather gloves, and finally succeeded in ripping his longsword from its scabbard.
