Hello all. Just got hit with an insatiable urge to find a fic I read a long time ago. It was an AU set in 18th century USA. The main premise was that Jon Snow and Jaime Lannister were both imprisoned for crimes (can't remember exactly what for, though Jeffrey had killed Ned Stark and framed one of them or something) and in order to save them from a death sentence, Danaerys and Brienne respectively married them both on the same day. I can't really remember much else, just that the Hound was Sheriff and I'm pretty sure it was on AO3, though I might be mistaken. If anyone can remember it I'd really appreciate it

Ok, so George has said that the long night was probably closer to 5k years ago in an interview, and that time line makes sense to me so I’m gonna use that time frame. Here’s at least the order I think it happens. The ancient stories are mostly written as myths so this is kinda how I imagine them haplening

At around 8k years ago two tribes from the great empire of the dawn first migrate in Westeros, setting by the mouth of the Honeywine and the Torrentine river, these tribes will later found house Hightower and house Dayne.

Another thousand years later these tribes have settled and the tower has been built(though not of stone yet). around now the first men migration, and the first men spread across Westeros rapidly. Garth Creenhand being the first to interact with the Cotf, and small battles occur across the land with the first men cutting down the trees and the arm of Dorne being smashes. But peace between the two races is made.

Another thousand years later in north western Essos the chief of a tribe is crowned king of Andalos and is promised a great land for his people just across the waters. In his older age he sets sails across the sea with some of his followers and lands in the vale. And a few hundred years pass as the Andals settle across the vale, and they start cutting down more Weirwoods which breaks the pact between the first men and the Cotf who don’t see a difference between the first men and the Andals. Starting the long night.

around a thousand years after the crowning of the Hugor of the hill, towards the end of the long night, a humble sheep herder on a volcanic peninsula in western Essos approaches a great winged serpent offering it one of their sheep, in exchange the great winged serpent kneels letting the sheep herder a ride on its back. And with that the first dragon lord takes flight. Who aids in the defeat of the others and before returning to the Valyrian peninsula. And this knowledge spreads to other such farmers and the Valyrian freehold is born, starting as a unified people with a common goal as for centuries their people had been raided by slavers in the east. But by the end of this all they have become the slavers them selves.

Around Another thousand years after the long night has ended the dragon lords start conquering lands in Andalos leading to another huge wave of migrations across the sea, and this time the Andals invade beyond the vale and spread into the rest of Westeros.

And thats all I have so far. I think there’s one more wave of andal migration but ye. obviously not everything happens exactly a thousand years apart just roughly. Please give me feedback

Do you know what would be a good fic? It is an AU where Cersei keeps Ned around as the Hand for keeping his mouth shut (why would she do that? For two reasons: to help her control Joffrey and to hamper Tywin from controlling her), and the capital is held by a dysfunctional triumvirate of Tywin, Cersei, and Ned with each one's power kept in check by the other two.

Hello, I am a long-term lurker of this thread, so I thought I'd share something.

I enjoy reading fanfiction and brainstorming ideas but can never seem to get pen to paper so to speak. I've edited a map to show some detail and added some islands because why not? I figure the western portion of the North is pretty unremarkable in terms of cartographic information and took some liberties. Here are some bullets to outline my thinking.

• So, my ideas:
  • Jon becomes the lord of the Western Coast of the North.
  • He will be based out of the Bay of Shields
  • He will rebuild what Brandon burned
  • The island of the Bay of Shields will have Volcanic origins
    • Will still have at least one active Volcano
  • He will still be of Ice and Fire
  • He does not make a play for the throne
    • I enjoy the idea of Aegon and Rhaenys still being alive somehow
  • Magical Development
  • Maybe a branch of the Citadel or an offshoot of dissenters

How good did the Valyrian peasants have it?

Did they own slaves?

Did they practice incest?

Did they get involved in magic shenanigans? If so how involved?

So, I’ve been wondering, in your own fanfics, how do you handle magic? George R R Martin doesn’t exactly make specific rule set for his magic in his books, but there are inferences that we can make, such as death paying for life, sex to make a shadow baby, White Walkers bringing the dead back as Wights, Red Priests able to resurrect others, glamours with the Faceless Men, and warging. There is also the city of Asshai, where magic is practiced openly.

Taking all of this into account, how do you handle the magic system from A Song of Ice and Fire?

I actually do think this is possible, only because you have canon knowledge.

You can probably beat Stannis's fleet since you know it's coming, and you can maybe cause a clusterfuck by revealing R+L and also (F)Aegon to the world. Maybe even the Jaime and Cersei incest stuff. Oh, and there’s also the secret marriage pact between Arianne and Viserys that Doran kept hidden.

Of course, there's no reason anyone would believe you.

Not neccessarily sells it to Robert, but maybe blackmails Ned to get a marriage between Robb and Meera or something like that. Perceived loyalty buys a man's silence for a while but a well placed quarrel buys it forever. Ned really needs this lesson. It would be especially interesting to see how it will affect Ned.

It's an OC Daughter of Tyland Lannister and she initially was paired with Aegon. A few scenes I remember:

• She first meets Aemond outside of the banquet / party.

• Her and Aegon meet at the library and he immediately gets infatuated with her.

• Their first "date" is at Aegon's room, and she makes a show of acting wild but it's not really her and Aemond sees right through her.

So I'm rereading Breaking the Faith by SaydruaWolfe (aka The story where Jon rides a flying unicorn) and he is adopted by Bobby B after they discover that in the immortal words of Maury Povich, "You are not the father!" and he becomes the heir and later the king without going to war over it.

Are there any other stories where Jon or whoever takes the throne without going to war?

Jaehaerys the Conciliator and Daeron the Good are almost always regarded as the two best Targaryen kings, so I thought it would be interesting to imagine how would each of them do in the other's life.

So, imagine that they swapped places:

Daeron is born as the youngest son of Aenys I and Alyssa Velaryon, after Maegor's death Daeron and his supporters reclaim the Seven Kingdoms, and he is crowned King at the age of 14. Rogar Baratheon is Hand of the King, Alysanne is Daeron's sister.

Jaehaerys is born as firstborn son of Aegon IV, although there are rumors of his supposed bastardry they were never proven, so after his father's death Jaehaerys ascends the Iron Throne at 31, prior to that he was already married to Princess Myriah Martell by his uncle Baelor the Blessed and he already has a son - Baelor Breakspear. Daemon Blackfyre and the other bastards of Aegon IV exist and are legitimized by the late King's last will.

How would Jaehaerys and Daeron fare in each other's situatuons? Would Daeron be able to consolidate the Seven Kingdoms and would Jaehaerys come out victorious in the Blackfyre Rebellion (presuming it still happens)?

Let's say that Aegon destroys House Hoare without burning the Harrenhal. The Conquest still, more or less, happens the same way with success. Afterwards, for whatever reasons, Aegon decides to make Harrenhal his seat and names it Dragonhal. He also decides to rule directly over the Riverlands and the Crownlands.

Discount the issues that come with Aegon doing the things in the scenario, and assume it's feasible.

How does the history and rule of House Targaryen look in this scenario? With Dragonhal (Harrenhal) being the royal castle and the Riverlands being their personal domain.

She resolves to bring easy peace to the North in her son's name; Robb Stark ends the Karstark Rebellion and sits in judgment.

What if Jae and Aly are reborn as Aegon and Helaena? How would the Dance proceed?

On the one hand, Jae wanted to curb Velaryon power and didn’t trust Corlys. Also, he called the Great Council and the realm preferred a male heir (I assume if a female heir had been chosen, many petitions for the eldest daughter to inherit over the first son might have to be resolved by the king leading to more chaos)

On the other hand, Jae had to win back the realm from Maegor and would value peace and stability. Also he seemed to regret how he treated Saera (no matter how appropriate the punishment) so he may not want to take the throne over Rhaenyra.

The Greens would be more powerful due to Vermithor and Silverwing and Jae and Aly won’t be drunk and useless. Also Jae and Aly probably wouldn’t tolerate the Strong boys and even resent Rhaenys for supporting Corlys in this mummery.

What do you think would be a realistic reaction from the Wise King and the Good Queen? Also what do you think they would think about the Vale situation? They wouldn’t be happy about the rumours about Rhea Royce’s death and Daemon grooming Rhaenyra. They might also be reminded of Saera by Rhaenyra and act accordingly as well.

Basically, any fic where they don't side with Rhaenyra and Daemon after all the shit they go through.
