/r/blackgaze
A haven for sharing, discussing, and listening to blackgaze; a niche music subgenre which mixes the elements of frigid post-black metal and warm shoegaze tones.
Blackgaze was brought to light by bands associated with the French musician, Neige (Alcest, Amesoeurs, Les Discrets, Old Silver Key). He was influenced by atmospheric black metal such as Ulver, Burzum and Summoning, as well as non-metal genres like post-punk and neoclassical darkwave.
The blackgaze sound is a mixture of black metal aesthetics with more dreamy and mellow textures. Primary characteristics of the genre include tremolo picking, blast beats, and ethereal walls of sound.

Upon my recent discovery of the Brazilian black metal ensemble Hikan, I must convey that I am thoroughly impressed by the intricate rhythmic structures they have crafted. It is indeed a lamentable circumstance that Hikan has ceased to produce new material, as their unique sound has certainly piqued my interest, leaving me with a desire to delve deeper into their musical archives. The cessation of such a project before its potential is fully realized is a disheartening event in the landscape of contemporary music. What are your thoughts on the impact of their musical contributions?
Hi! This is my first release. Probably a bit more DSBM than Blackgaze but the influences are there. I also love Paysage D’Hiver so the production is little bit more on the shit-side. I am always happy to receive some feedback.
I'm looking for bands that combine blackgaze with non-metal genres similarly to how Germ and Abstract Void do it.
I am not looking for bands that sound like them but moreso for other ones that combine unusual genres like how they do.
Preferrably genres that don't have any connection to rock or metal
Together with some other cool artists of the genre, we have create The Black Guild, a server to discuss everything related to being a black metal bedroom producer - from music production and recording, music promotion, recommendations, splits and collabs, memes and more!
It's still a very new server so we're looking for more musicians and artists to join and complement our small community. It's a great opportunity to join a space to share your music, maybe get some nice tips when it comes to producing or promoting, sharing your mixes, meet and potentially find other bands to collaborate with, an so on. Or maybe just to make a new friend or two.
Find the server here: https://discord.gg/KJagPPvYkb
No matter the pedigree, or even if you're still just thinking about starting your own music project, feel free to join us!
Basically i've been noticing how diverse the genre is when it comes to bands screaming in their own language. With bands like Alcest in French, MOL in danish, Lantlos in german, Asunojokei in japanese, etc... Any more examples of blackgaze bands screaming in languages that are not english? I'm also accepting other recommendations in the languages that i've just mentioned
