/r/blackgaze
A haven for sharing, discussing, and listening to blackgaze; a niche music subgenre which mixes the elements of frigid post-black metal and warm shoegaze tones.
Blackgaze was brought to light by bands associated with the French musician, Neige (Alcest, Amesoeurs, Les Discrets, Old Silver Key). He was influenced by atmospheric black metal such as Ulver, Burzum and Summoning, as well as non-metal genres like post-punk and neoclassical darkwave.
The blackgaze sound is a mixture of black metal aesthetics with more dreamy and mellow textures. Primary characteristics of the genre include tremolo picking, blast beats, and ethereal walls of sound.

i'm struggling to find any
I was listening to a 90s screamo band called Anomie and I thought certain song sections sounded like they would be in a Blackgaze song. But it would not make much sense to call a Screamo band Blackgaze, since Screamo comes from Hardcore while Black Metal and Shoegaze don't.
I tried looking on set list fm and I know they donβt have social media. I would love to know if they do because I just found them and seeing the woods are on fire live is quickly becoming a dream for me π
I plan on buying an interface and getting an amp sim to cut out the middle man on buying more pedals for a blackgaze project, any recommendations?
Thereβs this one Blackgaze band I remember listening to that was really good, but I canβt remember their name. All I can remember is that one of their album covers is a poorly drawn, blue, iron cross on a pink/light red background
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Love this band. Really hope the album breaks through.
Iβve recently started getting into blackgaze and so far Iβve listened to Alcestβs discography and Sunbather. Among all those albums, this one specifically grabbed my attention. I think itβs my favorite.
Doesnβt have to be blackgaze, shoegaze is also accepted
Shoegaze band Flourish from Northern ohio just released a new album and there is a song with some blackened vox on it.
Because I'm not a woman and I CERTAINLY dont mask anything
Thanks for all the support :)
I really like .neon from LantlΓ΄s. I especially love the vocals style and the "melancholic" atmosphere of the music, especially of the song "Neige de Mars". The only thing I found close to it are Show Me A Dinosaur's old albums, but they're not as "melancholic". Lastly, I need the sound quality to be good. It's hard for me to enjoy songs that are otherwise.
Any recommendations?
This is my main blackgaze playlist, if it helps (not all of them are blackgaze). https://open.spotify.com/playlist/14NeLnUVEs0BCkcdAHOWl4?si=xeRc6VKoSLm6c-umxi3EBA&pi=uW7CFav6TWG_E
