A haven for sharing, discussing, and listening to blackgaze; a niche music subgenre which mixes the elements of frigid post-black metal and warm shoegaze tones.
Blackgaze was brought to light by bands associated with the French musician, Neige (Alcest, Amesoeurs, Les Discrets, Old Silver Key). He was influenced by atmospheric black metal such as Ulver, Burzum and Summoning, as well as non-metal genres like post-punk and neoclassical darkwave.
The blackgaze sound is a mixture of black metal aesthetics with more dreamy and mellow textures. Primary characteristics of the genre include tremolo picking, blast beats, and ethereal walls of sound.

I'm wondering, if could you recommend some blackgaze bands coming rather from the hardcore/screamo/crust/allkindapunk side than from the metal side of the scene. Either by sound or just by to which scene they are more related to when it comes to playing shows etc.
Also, preferably but not limited to non-american, because there are plenty of american artists and they are easier to come by.
Was wondering how to get that tone from their early albums like .neon, any tips and suggestions would be much appreciated!
Put out a new track today 🖤 vibe with it

I really like the sound of atmospheric/blackgaze/postblackmetal and I’m trying to find more genres to listen to. I don’t really know how to describe the sound I’m looking for, more like shoegaze and less like black metal.
Come to think of it I'm not sure there's anything like it from what I've listened to. Not sure how it'd sound but I'm interested. Closest I can think of is the choir-like vocals in alcest during Elávacion and beings of light.
After working on the Blackfold podcast for close to 8 months, today our trailer finally went up. Starting next week we will be dropping an episode every week. The first season will consist of 10 to 12 episode in which we will delve deeply into a specific topic for around an hour or so. The first episode, dropping on February 5th, will be about Per Yngve Olin and his alter wgo Dead. The second will delve into the influence of Satanism on the scene. Plus, there will be episodes about medieval black metal, the history of the French scene and Varg Vikernes’ imprisonment and jailbreak and much, much more.
So far we are up on Spotify, Podbean and iHeart but soon we will be on Apple Podcasts as well.
We would love for you to follow us and we hope you enjoy the podcast!
vocals are typical dsbm "wails" lol but the drums and main riff remind me more of that bittersweet shoegazey sound. one of my tracks rn
deafheaven - sunbather (obvi, got me into the genre)
dystopia na! - dweller on the threshold
an autumn for crippled children - try not to lose everything you love
sadness - i want to be there
oathbreaker - rheia
What band retains the most evil sound from black metal but still is ultimately blackgaze? Thanks in advance.
I know it's a hard ask for there to be more great bands to fit right into a weird super niche but it's worth a try.
Hardcore influenced blackgaze with some slide guitar.
This one snuck under my raider at the end of last year, but holy heck, it’s incredible. Could not glaze this release hard enough. Sonically divine
