Hi everyone! Is anyone on here applying this Spring for Fall 2025 cohorts at Miracosta, Palomar, or Grossmont? If so, what are your stats & how many points do you have? I'm getting preapplication anxiety!!!!
And for everyone who has applied in the past, and got accepted or rejected, what were your stats like & how many points did you have? Please let me know!
So, my birthday is the 3rd, a Tuesday. Friends are unavailable and family is likely to forget about it. I don't want to spend my birthday being sad again, so any suggestions? Btw I get out of school at 3:45, so preferably nothing before that, and preferably not just going out to eat or something
Hey - is the go city explorer pass for San Diego a good idea to purchase? We are visiting with two kids and plan on seeing the Zoo, Sea World, the USS Midway and Legoland.
Are there blackout dates or times?
This is the link if you are not familiar with it
Coming from Canada in December so it’ll still be warmer than here, but I’m wondering what to pack!
Will it be beach weather (at least to sun bathe if not swim?)
Where can we whale watch? I’m hesitant to trust a random google search recommendation but would welcome suggestions here!
Is it worthwhile to drive to LA for a day and come back at night?
What are the best Mexican food spots in town?
What neighborhoods should we avoid (in terms of car thefts especially)?
Is there any recommendations for a very basic photographer (maybe someone starting out?) I’d like to get some simple beach photos at sunset!
Thanks in advance :)
Pleaseeee point me to the right direction. I’ve been craving mexican corn on a stick so please swnd me your best location. TIA

Hello! I’m going to be in San Diego for a week in early December (tagging along with my partner on his business trip) and I have a few questions about transportation.
I saw on MTS’s website that they offer PRONTO pay-as-you-go cards, which I’m assuming is the best deal for my situation. But my question is, if I’m just going to be visiting the main tourist areas (Balboa Park, La Jolla Shores/Cove, Pacific and Mission Beaches, etc.), do I need to use the MTS Rapid Express/Premium or the MTS Rural? Or am I fine sticking with the Trolley, Bus, and Rapid options?
Are there city bike/scooter-shares?
How’s the Uber/Lyft/taxi prices?
My partner will be working onsite every day for most of the day, so I’m going to be by myself for a lot of this trip. As a woman in my 20s, I wanted to know how safe the public transportation options are at night.
Would it be better to just suck it up and rent a car? How expensive is parking? Are there a lot of parking options?
Any advice is much appreciated :)
Visiting San Diego in January with a toddler and considering renting a car for ease of travel. How hard is driving and parking in San Diego? Coming from Houston for reference. Thank you!!!
We have a big pickup truck and need to take an Amtrak (ideally Santa Fe Depot). Any ideas of parking near there? When we look online they seem to either not allow pickup trucks or be $35! 😱
Hi all! I’m 30F looking for a roommate in the Carmel valley/del Mar area to share a 2 bedroom apartment with. I have one dog (12 lb shih Tzu) and am very neat and quiet! If you’re interested or know of anyone who would be interested please DM me. Preferably looking to move at the beginning of next year but have some flexibility
Thank you!!
I am in 20s and will be going to SD next week. Do ppl party in weekdays during holiday like thanksgiving? If yes, any suggestions?
I was looking at an apartment in the neighborhood, and I noticed there were no street sweeping signs. The streets seem to be pretty clean despite of this.
As someone who's been fascinated by airplanes since childhood, I can't help but look at the size of San Diego International Airport (SAN). It feels small for a metro area of about 3.3 million people, and a city undergoing endless redevelopment. We're working with a single 9,401-ft runway that's pretty limited in handling our growing travel demand. Over the years, there's been talk of moving the airport to places like Miramar, North Island, or Brown Field, but issues like military objections, high costs, and air traffic interferences stopped those proposals. Since relocation is off the table—think it's worth discussing how we might expand SAN at its current location. The new Terminal 1 redevelopment is promising, with added gates, taxiways, and dual roadways. But I suspect adding gates to a single-runway airport could increase congestion without other changes to manage traffic efficiently.
One idea I thought of, though controversial, is relocating the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD). If that area could be repurposed, it might allow for a second runway—potentially around a maximum of 9,400 ft-to help handle more cargo and general aviation, and reduce delays. With careful alignment, this runway might even allow for dependent parallel approaches, similar to SFO's setup, which could reduce congestion during peak hours. Of course, this will involve a lot of working with the military and local communities, but I think it's worth considering.
In addition, we’re considering extending the current runway, maybe to a maximum length 10,600 ft, to support long-haul international flights. Depending on the amount of length really needed for a safe takeoff of let’s say, a 777-300ER, it may or may not involve changes to the Liberty Station esplanade, and I understand this will be another throw off for these local communities, raising concerns about noise and air traffic volume.
What do you think—are these kinds of changes possible, or is SAN destined to remain constrained? I’m just a curious San Diegan without formal experience in airports, so I'd love to hear insights from those more in-the-know!
Doing an escape room over Christmas break with my family.
We did The Red Door Escape Room- The Gift at Fashion Valley this fall and it was awesome!
Wondering if anyone else has suggestions of rooms and places that are PRIVATE ONLY - since some require you to book all 8 spots 🙄
Anyone go last year? I’m not interested in this years headliner (Post Malone) but want to go for Paul Cauthen and Zach Top. How long do they get for their sets?
Hello ,
I’m visiting for a music festival on New Year’s Eve and Day . I currently have an air b n b booked for downtown but I’m reading some Reddit info about the homeless population that has me wondering how safe I will be roaming alone as a 20 something year old woman . I currently have an air b n b booked in down town San Diego on market street right by golden hill market , Sherman elementary school etc . The walk from the air b n b is about 20 mins in total , only going up market street and park Blvd . Is it unsafe to be out alone at late hours of the night ? or in general ? I’d be walking home around 1 am and am under the impression buses won’t be running then and worry how available Ubers will be , and would prefer to walk in general . I enjoy the time alone to reflect and also saving money lol . I am a Boston local and roam most parts of the city without feeling unsafe in the slightest , and there are very few areas I would bother avoiding . We do have some homeless but not encampments . I feel very safe navigating Boston and surrounding cities alone at all hours . I have street smarts and San Diego is much more grid locked but just looking for a locals insight if I’m better off booking a stay that’s not down town. I saw something about safety ambassadors offering chaperones to walk home ?
Lmk (:
My wife and I recently moved from NYC where she used to go to her girl for her hair ever couple months to straighten/cut/etc.
We live in North County / Del Mar & haven't had much luck finding a salon that specializes in black hair near here. Any recs? Open to anywhere!
Will be traveling from out of town for the week following Christmas. I would LOVE to find a bingo hosted on NYE, not having a ton of luck online. Anyone know of anything? Thanks!
I’m deciding between apartments in Del Mar Heights and Pacific Beach and was hoping to get the group’s opinion. Both fit my requirements for being within reasonable commute to work (Torrey Pines area) and being walking distance from the beach, so I was wondering if there’s any notable difference between the two neighborhoods the locals notice (walkability, nightlife, restaurants, beach scenery, traffic, etc.). Thanks in advance!!! 😊
Looking for chorale groups, churches or any place, really, to see traditional and Renaissance-era hymns performed. The older, the better. Nothing against the popular / Bing Crosby / Mariah Carey tunes, but there are plenty of places to hear those. Any monks caroling in Gaslamp this year?
So I'm pretty sure my first memory was as a ~2yo at the San Diego Zoo, but I remember being carried along an elevated walkway over one of the exhibits, and I can't tell from the website or from Googling whether this was ever a real setup at the zoo. I remember looking down at the grated sidewalk, and below that was grass/field and some kind of animal, and I've had this memory for ages. It would've been in the early 90s. Can anyone help??
Looking for a therapist with bonafide hypnotism skills. I’ve had some “meh” experiences in the past and hoping to find someone really good. Anyone have any recommendations?
Will be travelling alone to SD and finding best accommodations in terms of location and access to transportation since I won’t be driving. Ideally as cheap as possible since I just need it to sleep.
Just drove pass, saw three sdpd police cars blocking the bridge on the side from island to dt and many cars are among them.
Hey! Looking for advice for a spontaneous trip we're planning to SD late December. We typically AirBnB for ease with 2 kids (3 and 5) but hearing lots of varying advice between areas to stay. We plan to rent a car and hit up the usual visitor spots (zoo, sea world, Lego land, maybe Coronado..etc).
Nightlife isn't important given...kids, but would love great eats for any meal and a great drink without a college/20s crowd given....kids. Proximity to let kids bop around a beach is desired too.
Searching and friends have pointed us to either La Jolla, Mission Beach, or Mission Bay, but seems these are quite different.
Thanks a ton for any advice or tips!!
He's a married late 20's grad student at UCSD. He surfs and climbs, amond other things. Instead of buying him a "thing" my wife and I thought of buying him (and his wife) and experience. First thing I thought of was dinner at a nice restaurant. I found this: https://www.synergygiftcard.com/participatingbusinesses/grid , but I don't know whether any of t he restaurants are worth it, or if there's a better card. Even better, if you have some other cool idea, I'd love to hear it. Budget in the $100-150 range. His wife works and he has a decent stipend, so he's not a starving student
Hi all, I’m a 30F looking to split a 2 bedroom around Carmel valley/del Mar. I’m a teacher in the area. I’m quiet and clean. Not a partier, mellow and have a small shih Tzu Please DM if interested. I just got out of a 10 year relationship and have never lived alone before
I have a trip to San Diego I’m really excited for at the beginning of December! I have a car rented out, any recommendations on things I should do and see? Travel tips are more than welcomed too.
