Best food and coffee in mission beach?

The taco shops look basic for the most part and there are too many coffee shops to go through them all.

Rosemaries sliders look incredible. Would love to hear of some other great food spots along mission beach and pacific beach. Doing research for a group of friends and it’s nauseating. Any names are very much appreciated.

North Park Apartment Recommendations

Hey Everyone, my fiancé and I are both young professionals (31/30) planning to move to North Park at the beginning of next year. We’ve been in touch with a realtor about renting a small home/condo/townhome, but we’re also open to an apartment.

We’re wanting to make friends and build a community so I’m assuming an apartment complex helps with this. We both work from home so we’d ideally want a 2bed/2bath, but would consider a 2bed/1bath or even a decent sized 1bed/1bath considering the current cost of living.

Anyone who has lived in an apartment in North Park have a strong recommendation?

Any burlesque shows on May 17 or 18?

Hi! I'll be in San Diego the weekend of May 17/18, and I really want to see a burlesque show. Does anyone know of any happening on those dates?

Edit: definitely open to cabaret and drag shows as well! I've heard of Lips Drag Bar, but I'm concerned about some reviews that are on Google. Does anyone have any insight on Lips in general? Go or no go?

Memorial Day Weekend Bachelorette Party

We are a group of six mid 30s women in town for a bachelorette party memorial day weekend! (Late Friday to Late Monday)

We are staying in North Park. I am somewhat familiar with San Diego and have some things in mind but would love any insight that might be happening that particular weekend or unique fun group activities.

We are going to hit up the Little Italy Farmers Market, the cliche of shout house and old town.

Thanks for any ideas you may share!

What to do in SD after 6pm besides food&drink stuff?

Hi, I'll be in SD for two weeks late May. I want to do something after work so do you have any recommendations on fun activities besides going out for drinks and food? I'll have a car so anything that's within 30-60min drive within US is also fine.

I personally don't have any preference, I'd like to see something unique to SD/Cali if possible

edit: I’d also be interested in antique jewelry if there's a place that sells them

thanks!!

Help Fill my Schedule! 4 Day Stay in Gaslight for Concert

First proper Reddit post ever! In 2019 I went to the City to see The Who. Was way up near Viejas Arena and was a intimidated by the traffic and scope of things. The Who were incredible, majesterial- hearing 'Tommy' w/ an orchestra I was in the audience crying as they played it. Location this time seems a bit rough (G Street) but can walk to the Rady Shell and the Beach. Got a garage spot just down the street. Idea is to be in the middle of things on purpose this time. Trip is Friday through Tuesday morning. Kind Strangers, if you will, a list of interesting things to see and do?

Particulars °Am OK Ubering around a few places °I'd like to see the Whaley House if I could °Balboa Park looks amazing °Love rare books, oddities shops, high end European style dessert/cafe spots to sit in for hours, Horror Movies, ethnic/specialty grocers, unique and interesting stores. °Not exactly a Beach guy but I've got a chair and reading beside the ocean sounds great. ° Love high end seafood restaurants, Sushi, Vietnamese places with Seafood Fried Rice (Com Chien do Bien) and anywhere I can get a Lengua Burrito. °I have Lion's Share and Extraordinary Desserts bookmarked ° One bright spot in 2019 was a memorable dusk walk down Washington Street and if able I'd love to go back (Cheese Shop?!?)

Opinion on Swami's Beach for an exploring afternoon?

Looking for a good beach to explore with my two young kids. We aren't looking to swim or sunbathe. Mostly splash in the ocean, watch surfers/paragliders if they're around, climb on rocks, look for rocks/shells. We don't care about a boardwalk or being near restaurants. We're staying in Carlsbad so we can do any beach between there and San Diego. It looks like Swami's might be a good option, a good mix of sand, rocky shores, and rock formations to explore. I know we won't be there for good tide pool times, but is the beach still fun when it's higher tide? I can't find enough info on if there is even enough beach to walk on at high tide. We're also considering Fletcher Cove and Torrey Pines State Beach.

Best hotel location in July?

We are looking at starting our CA trip in San Diego the week of July 14. It looks like all the downtown hotels are over double the price. Any idea why the prices are so high for that week? I only saw a few events but didn't seem like those would be it. We could look at a different week if necessary.

We, two adults and two twelve year olds, are planning on going to the museums at Balboa Park, USS Midway Museum, San Diego Zoo, and the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. We don't plan on renting a car, just taking Ubers. Any suggestions on good places to stay relative to those areas? Thanks.

Looking for college housing with my friend

Hey everyone, I was admitted to SDSU, and my friend was admitted to UCSD so we're looking for housing in San Diego between the two campuses. What neighborhoods that are somewhat equidistant from both campuses would you say are the best for college students? We're looking for any type of housing in an area with predominantly other students.

Solo day trip

I'll be in San Diego for work this summer. My conference will end around 9:30-10:30 AM on a Tuesday. My flight doesn't leave until 8:30 PM. Staying in the gaslamp area. What should I do with my day as a solo female traveler? I was thinking either take an Uber to La Jolla or an Uber to Coranado. Alternatively I could go to the zoo? Any other recommendations? Or things I shouldn't do?

Why are high school sports so competitive in SD?

I am 22 now, but I am still incredibly upset by how I got rejected from every sports team and didn’t do as many extracurriculars as I wanted. Almost every sport, even track, swimming, lacrosse, and wrestling made a lot of cuts in tryouts and only people who played since 5 made the team. I don’t think there was truly a no cut sport at my high school. Why is everything so competing here?

Wedding Weekend in July at Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. Rent a car or cab it?

My wife and I are headed to a wedding in July at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines.

We're only staying about 5 days including the wedding, which once you figure in the revelries the night before and the hungover brunch afterwards with friends, that really gives us just a couple of days. If we really just wanted to get to bars / restaurants / beach, is the area walkable? Or reasonably get cabs to places? Or should I rent a car?

I understand this is a stretch asking you guys since it's out of the city, but I figured I'd try.

Coming in July

My family and I are coming in July for a few days. We have 3 older kids (late teens early 20's) We have been to the area a few times but have never been in the summer. My sons and I are planning on catching a Padres game and we all are looking forward to spending some time at the beaches. We have done the zoo and most of the other tourist things in and around the area. Looking for some recommendations on things to do that would be fun for all of us that are less touristy.

Traveling to SD during Cinco De Mayo weekend, group of 5 guys, and recommendations on things to do?

Group of guys coming in Friday May 3rd to celebrate my 40th Birthday. I've been to SD before and loved it. I went with my family so we did all the family-friendly activities.

Anyone have any suggestions on things to do for a group of dudes (4 married, 1 single)?

We're drinkers, love food, and like to have fun, any special Chino De Mayo events happening on Saturday?

Thanks in advance!

Rohr park wiffle ball

Hey everybody,

My friends & I have been playing wiffle ball in a small part of rohr park by the dog park for about a year or so. We were going for 8 months every Saturday to go play with no interruptions with about 8-14 people. Until one day the ranger at the park told us that we needed a permit? We already thought that was weird because we are not an organization or a league there’s no monetary gain from all this. It’s just friends playing at a park. They considered us a “reoccurring event” but it looks like they’re classifying us as a actual league. We tried to get a permit for field, but the permit makes us rent out a huge portion of the field, the side we use only takes up about 10% of that whole permit. What’s the difference between friends going to the basketball court everyday? Or even a dog club going to the dog park every Saturday? All in all this is a public park & seems like they’re trying to get us out of there.

Handmade coffee mugs between San Diego and Oceanside

Hi, I am staying in Valley center, and I would like to get some handmade pottery mugs to take home with me. I'm wondering if there are unique areas where they would have shops that sell handmade goods, maybe a little area with coffee shops and such that I can visit and walk around this week. Anywhere within the triangle of Oceanside, Valley center, in San Diego. Thanks!

Places to stay with 1 year old

Hello all,

My wife and I (late 20's) are looking for the best place to stay with our 1 year old.

From what I've gathered so far here are the spots on my list:

  1. La Jolla
  2. Coranado
  3. Ocean Beach
  4. Mission Beach

We would like to be close to the beach. Doesn't need to be beachfront. We are leaning on getting a rental car. We really want to take him to the zoo/safari.

Just looking for the nicest beach for a baby. I am sure they are all beautiful. Just would like recommendations on clean safe beaches for a baby.

Not into the party scene as I've stated we will have our one year old son, but would like to enjoy a few nice drinks.

Looking for budget friendly options. Really we just need a clean room to rest our heads. We will spend most of out time out and about enjoying the beach and what San Diego has to offer. Looking to spend our money on things to do/places to eat rather than the stay itself.

We are also the type to leave places better than we found them. So if you have any hidden gems you are gatekeeping.. please send me a private message as I know most people don't like to share the true gems to tourists.

Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!!

PS I have already seen post's about people trolling recommending Black's to tourists.. lol I have a one year old son. Maybe another time!

Looking for where to go next after SD, somewhere close?

Staying 2 weeks in SD, we'd like to visit one more spot, but we don't wanna drive over 2 hours. All I can find is either Los Angeles or Palm Springs but we're going in August and palm springs seems deathly hot, and LA doesn't interest us.

Everytime I see somewhere recommended it's super far but we have to be back in SD soon after so we don't wanna go far.

Is there somewhere nice to spend 4-5 nights near SD in August?

I saw Lake Arrowhead, but I'm not in love

Help!

San Diego Zoo Membership Deals

I'm planning to visiting the zoo for 1 day with 4 adults and 1 toddler under 3 years old (free).

If I buy 4 adult 1-day passes, that's $72*4=$288.

But if I get 1 Wildlife Protector membership (cheapest membership option for non-residents), it's $139. The membership comes with one free 1-day guest pass and two 50% discounted tickets. If I take advantage of both of them, the total comes out to $139+$0+($72*2)*50% = $211!!

And this doesn't include extra 10% discount on dining and merchandises.

Getting one membership for even just 2 adults for a 1-day visit is already worth it. 2 regular adult 1-day tickets is $144.

Am I missing something? Is there some "clause" that prevents people from doing this?

For those who have membership, when and how do you receive your extra free pass and 50% discount code?

Thanks!

Edit: the no blackout date membership is $159 so 2 single day passes is still cheaper if you don't consider additional discounts, but definitely come out on top with 3-4 adults.

1 day in San Diego, staying in North Pacific Beach

In need of some advice! My family and I are doing a California road trip in about a month and we'll be staying in San Diego for two nights only. We'll arrive on a Sunday evening, have all day Monday for exploring/activities, and we'll take off early Tuesday morning.

We were having a hard time finding an affordable yet comfortable spot in the city to stay at so we ended up booking a place right by Tourmaline Surf Park, which I guess is North Pacific Beach? Google maps says its about a 20 minute drive to Balboa Park, which we wanted to visit.

What are some must do things that seem plausable? I know its not a lot of time and San Diego is huge with so many options. I was thinking a nice dinner the evening we arrive near where we're staying, maybe by La Jolla? (Any recommendations?) Head into the city the next morning, hit up Balboa Park and maybe Old Town?

My family likes a more laid back kind of atmosphere, we really wanna eat good food and see some pretty views and some beaches/sea lions.

This is so last minute and my parents aren't planners so I'm doing what I can. I appreciate any help!

Beach mini session

I searched previous posts and reached out to those photographers but I’m not looking to spend $500 for a 1 hour photo session. I know editing is a lot of work and drive time and all that though!! Does anyone have a photographer recommendation that does like 25-30 min shoots on the beach? My family can’t pretend to be models for a hour. Visiting in June! I’m getting nervous that I’m about out of time to book something!
TIA. I hope this is a good place to post this since the regular San Diego page is ran by a Karen. :) JK not JK

Bachelor party ideas around San Marcos area?

We'll be staying up North at the Lakehouse Resort in San Marcos.

Are there any good activities in that area or under 30 minute drive? Ideas so far I got are golfing and renting a boat and drinking, but just wanted to see if there are any other ideas that might be fun.

Thanks!

Question about Mission Valley Apartments

Thinking about moving to one of these complexes in Mission Valley: Del Rio, Portofino, Monte Vista.

Anyone have any experience living at these places? How was it? Do they have month to month leases? Was it loud from road noise? Any other pros and cons I should be aware about? Any other similar complexes you might recommend?

Thanks!
