‘17 JKU passenger door lock

Hey there everyone, so my rear passenger door lock doesn’t engage/disengage with either the key fob or the driver/front passenger door switch inside. I can manually unlock it with the rear passenger door switch, but I’ve noticed opening it from inside with the door handle (when the door itself shows it’s locked) doesn’t work either. I have to manually unlock that door and then open it. Any ideas?

JK-odd turn signal behavior

Here's my oddball gremlin that I'd appreciate some help with.

I installed XGENOSO Led headlights over a year ago on my 2013 JK. They've worked great with no issues until earlier this week.

The main lights, both high and low, work fine. Turn signals, both left and right, work fine-the halos blink and the traditional turn signals blink in time as well (normal blink, not fast).

The issue is when I have the lights on. The LEDs work, the halos work, but only the driver's side turn signal remains on-the passenger side remains off until hazards or turn signals are activated.

I don't think it's the bulb since it does turn on, so I haven't replaced it yet. The LED headlights came with Y adapter cables, so there's no splices in the wiring involved. All the connecters are solid, nothing is loose.

Does anyone have any suggestions ('hurp derp buy 'murican' is NOT a suggestion I'll take seriously as all the US brands with halos involve splicing wiring as part of the install)?

Gas Mileage Question

I have a 2017 JK 4-door with the 3.6L and 33" tires and a K&N filter (stock intake). I get at best 16 mpg. I am wondering if going to a cold air intake will help my mileage (looking for anyone who has gotten actual better mileage when going to a CAI). Any other suggestions for mileage improvements is also welcome.. And yes, I know I drive a brick with no aerodynamics what so ever, just looking for some slight improvements for my daily commute.

What is this piece?

I have a '23 Wrangler 4xe with Sky one touch roof. The pictured piece of tape? foam? was hanging down from the drivers side windshield, between the roof and pillar.

It fell off when I went to see what it was. There's a clear film with what appears to be black adhesive foam tape on it.

Could someone tell me what this is?

Tips for swapping out the light under the shifter for Wrangler JKs

Hi All, new Jeep owner here : 2016 JKU 75th Anniversary Edition

The first time I drove in the dark I noticed that there was no lighting for the shifter, and apparently this is something that every new owner of a JKU goes through. If you, like me, are bothered when things don't work as they should and spend too long on the internet trying to sort out the fix, here are some tips for replacing the bulbs that I did not see covered elsewhere. It's pretty easy to do, but required some fiddling.

First: follow the instructions on this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX5XIw_GSoA

There are other videos, but they don't remove the entire centre panel which would make this really hard. To take the centre cover all the way off you need to remove the 4wd shifter knob. This was really not that hard to do - easier even than indicated in the video. Totally worth it.

You need a 2721 bulb but these days all of the replacements seem to be LED. I got these:

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0798Q4RRC?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

You might not want to pick the yellow version that I got if you want the colour to match the blue/green dashboard lights. Maybe white would be better? Not sure.

These LED replacements do work, but it took some fiddling to figure it out. First, the end you need to insert into the plug is thicker than the original bulb, and they do need to go in quite a way - further than they want to without effort. By hand I got them part way in but then there was a catch preventing it from going further. I recommend using a pair of needle nose pliers to gently wiggle and press them in further. Second, it turns out that it matters which way you insert the bulb. Test to make sure that it lights up before putting everything back together. If it doesn't light up with startup, pull the bulb, turn it the other way, insert and try again.

The hardest part for me, and the reason why I think it's worth the effort of removing the whole centre cover instead of trying to jam your hand under there, was getting the bulb back into the right spot properly. You have to line up the little slots at just the right angle to be able to twist the bulb unit back into the proper place which I could not do without getting down low to see what was going on. I climbed into foot well with a flashlight so that I could see and used those needle nose pliers to help get the tabs through the slots and then turned into place.

Hope that helps other new owners of a used JK who would like to see their shifter in the dark.

Best phone mounts for 2015 Wrangler

Hi y’all! I drive a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Altitude for work & need to get a phone mount for it. I travel often in it sometime 4+ hours and my phone over heats often (I live in the southeast) when I have it in the tray in the window. I’ve been looking at getting a CD phone mount since a normal air vent one won’t work. But if anyone has any good recommendations I’d love to hear them! Thanks in advance!

Any mechanics here?

Hi guys,

Apologies in advance for my lack of car knowledge.

I have a 2023 JL Sport with the 3.6L engine. I have about 23k miles on the car. When I was out yesterday, the car wouldn't start with one press of the ESS button and click, but after a second press, it started up fine. But then this morning, I tried starting it and it would once. I tried starting up the car and it just clicked again, but after a second press, it would just continue clicking.

I was dealing with the auto stop/start no working for the last week where the screen would say "stop/start inactive because battery is charging."

I'm assuming there's something wrong with the aux battery, but I'm not sure if I should just call AAA to replace the thing or if I should tow it to the mechanic and have them diagnose it. What do you guys think?

Advice on CarPlay head unit

My daughter has recently started asking about adding CarPlay to her 2013 Wrangler Sahara. This sort of change is way above my level of comfort to do myself. Does the community have any suggestions for models and installers for this sort of thing? The last time I added any special audio was back in 2002 when Bestbuy installed XM radio unit in my truck.

Which Wrangler is best?

In the market for a wrangler, would just like to use it for simple commutes to work (15-20 min from home) and occasional road trips to neighboring states. Not planning to go off roading and such. What year is with the one with most minimal problems?

New to Wranglers and also Fluid Film

I recently purchased a 2020 2-door Willys. It's new to me, surprisingly clean throughout, especially the underside. I'd like to keep it that way. This is my first car in 20 years and I'd like to be able to keep it for 20 more.

That said, I went all-out and bought a 5-gal bucket of FF and an undercoating gun. I understand as far as power washing the underside and letting it dry overnight, but I don't quite know how to tackle from there. Do I just start spraying everything there? Because there appears to be a lot of plastic shielding on the underside. I believe it all to be stock (again, kinda new to this). Is it best to remove all that and then spray all the parts under that shielding?

Any tips or good tutorials would be fantastic.

Also hello.

What are these gray items protruding out of the bumper?

Noob question. New Jeep owner. What are these gray items protruding out of my bumper? Some type of ground? The one on the right has a wire connected to the fog light. Any concerns with one, empty hole? Thanks!

2016 JKU Sahara - Question about weird thing that happens when starting up.

Greetings Wrangler brain trust. I've got a weird issue that I've not been able to google my way out of.

Jeep Info: Relatively Unmodified 2016 JKU Sahara. Only modifications from stock is a new professionally installed stereo head unit and rear camera. I had these installed pretty quickly upon purchasing the jeep back in may, and the very detailed service record didn't indicate any mechanical issues being taken care of. I'll also add that I had several folks who know their way around jeeps/cars look at it before the purchase, and it was pretty unanimous that it was in really, really good shape and very well maintained throughout the original owner's time with it.

A few months back I had this strange issue where occasionally, maybe 10% of the time, when turning the engine over to start her up, the driver dash instrument console wouldn't turn on. Like totally dark. In addition to this the wipers would start operating on their own, and could not be turned off by adjusting their turning switch.

This would IMMEDIATELY be remedied by using the interior light switch on the left side of the steering wheel to turn the interior lights on and off again. Upon doing that, the drivers console would turn on, the wipers would stop.

I swapped out the battery about a month ago, and this seemed to completely fix the issue, but it just happened again. Battery is literally brand new and definitely connected correctly.

Any thoughts on where to start troubleshooting? Has anyone dealt with this or a similar issue?

Thanks in advance!

JLU with no corrosion?

How pervasive is the corrosion issue? Not “if” but “when?” Any 2018/19 owners out there without any corrosion happening?

Thanks
