Been fighting with my brakes for a couple years now. I have a '90 that I removed the Bendix ABS and replaced with a standard, double-diaphragm system.
The main symptom I have now is this: when I start it cold, the brake pedal can be pushed to the floor and it takes serious pressure to stop. After driving for 15ish minutes, the pedal is super stiff and in extreme cases the brakes are slightly engaging while I'm driving with my foot off the pedal.
I've rebuilt the rears, totally replaced everything in the fronts (calipers, pads, rotors, hoses), drained / flushed / bled the fluid several times (so it's not water or air in the lines).
Pretty much the only thing I haven't touched is the prop valve and the hard lines. I can't imagine the lines are the issue - is there any conceivable way this is the prop valve?
Radio has begun acting up in a strange way while driving in cold weather.
When it happens, relay clicks behind the glove compartment and all audio stops. The radio remains powered on (clock, backlight), but there is no sound from any function (AM/FM/cassette). Even the electrical whine in the speakers is gone.
Power cycling the radio has no effect, and does not trigger the relay. After a long sit, the relay typically clicks back on with the radio and normal function is restored.
Anybody experienced this before?
I'm looking to replace the rear door checks by ones that allow the door to open 90deg, does anyone know if they exist or which i could use? I know they exist for for example Defenders, but can't find any info on it for the Cherokees. And yes, will replace leaf springs on rear axle as well (are Lesjöfors any good?)
I have this whistle going on when the heat is running, it only really whistles when I get off the gas and as soon as I get back on the gas it goes away. If had this problem for a few months now and I can’t seem to pinpoint where it’s coming from or from what, I have no codes for vacuum leak or anything of that nature. I hope the video was good enough to give you guys an example I was on my way to work this morning and totally got fed up with it😂 hope someone can point me in the right direction.🙏🏼🙌🏼
Genuinely how am i supposed to operate this could someone more knowledgeable then me explain what each setting does and how to get into each headlight setting? The trim is sport if that matters at all lmfao plz help tho im boutta throw the battery full force against the wall
Bodys a 90 but pervious owner put a new motor in it (just installed cold air intake as it didnt come with one)
Hey guys, just wondering, if you had a secret santa with a budget of $100 USD what would be on your wish list? :)
PFA is not my XJ
I upgraded my transmission mount to a rustys off road off set polyurethane mount. It works great but now my stock cooling fan is rubbing up against the power steering pump since the trans now sits a bit higher. The fan was already messed up, but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas either for a low profile fan or somthing else. Luckily its about to be the dead of winter, and the xj is just the ranch vehicle for down the trail activities when its -30 here in the mountains.
Blower motor cuts out whenever I press the brakes.
Going to start preparing for a rear main seal replacement during my Christmas vacation. What other seals, gaskets, or the like should I replace while I’ve got the oil pan off?
Additionally is it a bad idea to replace the head gasket if I’m not seeing any signs that it is broken? I’d like to asses the condition of the pistons, the head, and any carbon buildup. I have the time and attention span for it currently and as I’ve had the girl for 20 of her 25 year, 173,000 mile life and I know the valve cover has never even been taken off before.
Chasing death wobble one batch of parts at a time. Installing new adjustable lower and upper control arms. Have everything out and I find the adjustment bracket for the LCA on passenger side has the bolt in the middle of the adjustment track even though the bracket is backed out all the way. Drivers side has the bolt at the back of the track when the bracket is backed out. Please see photos.

Is this normal? Is this from factory? Any advice is welcome. Thank you!
Trying to narrow down the diagnosis on this recent issue.
Took my janky stock XJ to an offroad park and did the teeter-totter once. Springs in the front are worn out and the bump stops rotted away years ago so it was a big hit when the front came down.
Now there is a creak/crunching sound while driving in 4H and 4L when the wheel is turned to one side or the other. No noticeable sound other than the occasional light click in 2WD. The front passenger wheel still gets drive in 4WD, but unhappily when the steering wheel is turned.
Got underneath the car and there was no play that I could find whatsoever.
My best guess is broken axle shaft splines or similar, does anyone have better ideas for what the issue could be? How likely is it I damaged the diff?
Hello! Im looking for a 1999 jeep XJ with under 170k miles and no rust (west or south USA)
I have 8k in hand. Willing to travel.
Notes: preferably white or green, must be 4x4, preferably stock.
Hello I just recently got a 2000 Jeep XJ and whenever I let the car idle or I’m giving less than 50% gas I hear this loud hissing/leaking noise from the engine area, but when I give it more gas or when I floor it the noise gets quieter or goes away completely. Anyone have an idea of what it could be?
Need to get a new set of these? Anyone know sizing and threads? Haven’t been able to find any with the right threads at the hardware store
Just picked up this 94 Cherokee for $500. Previous owner passed and left it to his sister. The only serious problem I’m having is the oil pressure sits around 60psi while I’m driving, sometimes going up to 70/75 at random. I did an oil change and grabbed a new oil pressure sensor but it didn’t end up working. I’m also looking for ideas to mod this and make is unique to me. Any ideas would be appreciated
There’s this pretty clean xj with low miles I’m looking at, but then I saw the gauge cluster, does anyone recognise this?
