Im a freshman here at UW, and though Im doing ok Ive had this general feeling of dissatisfaction with my social life I didnt have in highschool. And I think the reason for this is I dont have any people who are just my people y'know? All my friends are other peoples friends before they're mine. There is no one I talk to on a daily basis, and no group I eat with everyday. Im lacking that concrete base.
I feel my progress in this sense is so much slower than I thought it would be, have I forgot how to make friends? Do I not know how to really connect with people?
Should I reach out more? Invite people I like to do random stuff with me? I would do this more often, but the people im interested in becoming friends are already within their own groups, so singling one out seems weird. And it always seems as if everyone is better friends with each other than they are with me.
Don't get me wrong, I have friends, but hot damn if it doesn't seem impossible to find a true ally if ykwim
Im also super down to chat on reddit with anyone who might be feeling similar. Like fr shoot me a random message, if anything its a quick opportunity to practice social skills.
apologies for bad grammar and spelling, im exhausted and tipsy
Again literally any input, advice, or stories about your own experience would be greatly appreciated
I need some new merch and I'm looking through the online store (I'm not in Seattle) and I know fanatics and a lot of the other sellers are trash so I'm wondering who to go with Fanatics - they've got my favorite design and the most options but ik they use cheap fabric and crappy overall League collegiate wear - isn't this just a offshoot of fanatics? Comfortwash - this seems to just be a wholesale clothing company, anyone know what the quality is like? Champion - they mostly have athletic wear online, but how's the cotton tees? Any I miss? Which should I go for?
Honestly kind of embarrassing since Math 111 is such an easy class but I'm having some trouble with the last unit which is annuity and annuity payments.
If anyone took Math 111 or has any experience could you help me?
For those who did well in math 124 how did you study for the final? Especially for those tougher related rates/optimization problems since there’s no answer key.
Any advice or other sources? Such as a comprehensive cheat sheet for the test?
Good luck everyone and thanks
I’m hoping to find someone to transfer my lease for a studio at NORA apartments to. The rent is $1,550 per month and the lease is until August 31, 2024.
Please let me know if interested!

I am needing a part time job ASAP as I am in a really rough financial situation. I have applied to a lot of places but either they don’t get back or I get declined. Looking for somewhere that will understand me being a student and work with my class schedule. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
I'm just a chill guy who needs anyone who sees this post to take this survey about Center Table Layout & Dining Experience. It should only take like a minute and if you do you are also chill guys. Thank you UW subreddit scrollers.
I'm thinking about moving on campus but I'm pretty sure the dorm windows are closed. I was wondering if anyone knew when the next time is that dorms opened up so I can live on campus, and which places have the best dorms. I heard the 3 person is the smallest, so should I go single, double, or 4 person suite?
I know this is hecka last minute and I'm probably cooked but I just wanted some advice. Thx
Hello! I wanted to take CSE123, AMATH301, MATH126, and MATH207 for winter quarter but I just wanted some input on whether that would be too much? My alternative to MATH207 is to take PHYS121, so I’m not sure which one to choose between those, I currently have a spot held in PHYS121 but there is also space to switch to MATH207.
For some more context, I’m planning on applying to AMATH after winter quarter, but if I do not get in, I am planning on applying to bioengineering.
Hi, my son is a freshman at an out of state school. He didn’t get into UW last year, but he’s interested in re-applying. Any advice? (We live in state.)
He’s a good student. I know UW is tough to get into, but I was a little surprised he didn’t get in.
Would he have a better chance applying from the out of state school, or I’ve heard there’s often a pathway if you transfer from a local community college?
Thanks for any help
We are considering a student residence lease with Oliv Seattle 4515 Brooklyn Ave. I’m looking for pros and cons, experiences from others. Basically I need to know all the reasons we shouldn’t sign a lease for 25-26 school year.
I'm a freshman in their first quarter at UW. I took Math 124 because I could skip across the required Math 100 classes into the calc series due to IB credit and it could help me get NSc/RSN requirements out of the way. I didn't think it could be that bad at first, but now here we are.
I could list out the things about the class that I hate, but to make a long story short: the lectures themselves are boring and difficult to understand, the content turned out to be 50% things I knew already (not enough to feel like dropping but not enough new stuff to interest me either), and the homework is a huge load for me to tackle. The only saving grace is that the professor herself & my TA are angels, but I'm not available for Office Hours save for rare occasions and the TA sessions mostly consist of discussing worksheets or doing them.
I guess there are other factors that make this more of a snowball situation than a scapegoat (living far away from the hall where lectures are, for example, makes my commute very not worth it) but it legitimately feels like I could've avoided a lot of it by not taking the class at all or taking the placement test to see if i could skip it (which due to unforeseen circumstances I didn't have the time for). But are my feelings valid, reddit
Did anyone get a five or above on the last wsa?Scores dropped today so I’m curious.
Hey, I just got accepted into the UW Bothell Business school but got denied from Fosters but got into the school itself. It is worth going UW Seattle and possibly switching majors or is UW Bothell Business school the better choice .
I know they did free WSJ but this is wonderful now as well. We now just need WP and ST to complete our collection.
Hello, trying to find out the deadline for UW Bothell fall 2025 freshman application. Ive read where its Nov 15 but then on the Bothell site it says Jan 15 not to mention there are early action and regular decisions for bothell where Seattle doesn'thave this?. Is UW Seattle different as far as deadlines? Im a bit confused obviously and im trying to get some clarity on the deadlines.
Thanks in advance
Are there any dorms with more secluded study rooms (preferably decent noise canceling)? I'm in Poplar right now, and I'm not a fan of the huge glass wall and sound leakage into the halls
I just want to know how common this is because I’m upset and I don’t know if it’s warranted or not. The TA for this class I took always takes about a month or more to grade labs. We’re just getting labs back from late October. Previously I had been getting full scores, 100%. All of the sudden the grades are super picky. She posts feedback questions asking about greater specifics. Which is fine, except there’s no way for me to take this feedback and apply it to future labs because the quarter is essentially over. Part of me wants to email her and the professor and make note of this but that’s mostly because I’m upset over my new low grades. This is my first quarter at UW so maybe this is typical and I need to adjust something? At my last college this wasn’t an issue. TIA
Can someone confirm if a 16'' X 38'' (W X L) will fit on a standard UW dorm desk? (height is not an issue)?
Hey guys! I’ve been going to Safeway for a while and even worked there but I just found out today they offer a 5% discount for students! (It adds up I promise lol)
If you have the app, go to the “Member” tab, then “Profile & Preferences,” then “Discount Programs” and you should see the Student option!
Good look to everyone with finals/projects and happy holidays!
I tried googling, but nothing meaningful came up. I'm a CC student who's taken courses like Calculus 1-4 (Math 124, Math 125, Math 126, Math 224), Linear Algebra (2xx), and Java 1-3 (CSE 121, CSE 122, CSE 123).
Would those be considered advanced-level credits (and what are those anyway)? Thanks.
Looking at the 650 essay prompt and the 300 short response, here's how I thought about them: The 650 essay prompt would talk about how an experience has shaped me, my values, and how I'll use those values to approach what I'm passionate about. The 300 short response would talk about how my community has defined what I'm passionate about, and how I will connect that with my values to add to the UW. Is that a good way to approach the two parts?
The 650 word essay prompt on the Writing Section page of their website says to talk about how a specific experience shaped you, but from my understanding a personal statement is a more general thing talking about yourself and what makes you stand out. Is there another spot for a more typical Personal Statement, or is it replaced with this essay prompt about a specific experience?
So I used the same essay for the Common App as I did for the UW Personal statement (650) because it was very similar and It fit. Looking at my application PDF it shows the "WRITING PERSONAL ESSAY" section (which is the common app essay), and then later it shows the "UW Personal Statement Essay" (which is the same exact essay. I believe that UW doesn't consider the Common App Essay, so am I fine that it says the exact same essay in my application? or am i missing something (like a button to click so that UW doesn't see that my common app essay is the exact same as the UW essay), so that I can somehow ask the office to not show my common app essay or something.
Thanks!!
