Be good: We aim to make the Seattle reddit a friendly place for everyone, so treat your fellow humans with respect. Content that contains racism, sexism, homophobia, harassment, threats, or other toxic content will be removed, regardless of popularity or relevance - and may lead to warnings or bans. We often moderate based on severity - and while that is subjective, flagrant violations (hate speech, slurs, threats, etc.) will result in immediate bans.
Follow reddiquette: While reddiqutte is "informal" by reddit standards, we have a firm stance on a few aspects, namely: Don't be rude, please be respectful to others. Don't editorialize headlines, please title your posts appropriately. Do not post private information about others, illegal content, or misinformation. Please keep post comments on-topic. See more details on Reddiquette or read the full text on our official rules wiki.
Keep Posts Seattle Related: Posts must be relevant to Seattle or the greater Seattle area.
No harassment / witch hunts: Do not create posts or comments to harass other users, incite witch hunts, or share photos of others without their consent.

No crowdfunding or surveys: Do not share crowdfunding sites (kickstarter, gofundme, etc) or any other donation links (sorry, this is a blanket rule out of fairness). Also, please do not use r/Seattle to post surveys or polls. You may ask questions, but targeted information gathering is prohibited.
No spam, ads, or promotional content: Do not post anything that is purely advertising or promotional content, or if you stand to profit from the content. Original content from artists and creators is acceptable, so long as it is relevant and not purely promotional.

Hi, I’m visiting with family this weekend and wanted to ask for y’all’s input. We’re thinking of driving to Mt. Rainier on Friday for views and a short hike. I saw that it’s snowing and raining, I’m not sure how feasible it is to visit. Any other recommendations?
I stopped by this morning to survey the damage. SFD is just starting their investigation. They're moving cautiously as the whole building is in danger of collapse. It's too early to speculate on the cause of this tragedy. So sad :(
Sorry if this is a bad place to ask, but most of the other places I’ve asked have come up entirely empty.
I’m trying to get a new bed frame (because the world might be going to shit but damnit, I at least want to sleep in a comfortable bed before I go), and I think I found a perfect fit that’s reasonably affordable, but there’s one big problem:
It’s unfinished poplar wood and I live with two cats. One of whom is young enough to still be in the “bite and scratch everything” stage.
I have absolutely no experience preparing that kind of furniture. Putting it together, sure, been pretty good at that, but staining and preparing the wood itself? Not a freaking clue. It’s just never been an issue for me before.
And while I can and have already been watching YouTube tutorials and asking around about what supplies I’ll need, I don’t really have a proper work space or transportation. I live in a small 1-bedroom in Lake City with no balcony and while there is a parking garage downstairs, it’s not the most reliably secure and I’m not even sure if I’m allowed to use any of it for a project like this? I can’t drive, either…
I’m wondering if anyone knows anyone in North Seattle that might have a workspace available I could borrow for this? I would be happy to pay or barter for the time and space, especially if they can also provide supervision or guidance as this would be my first time attempting this sort of project and I would feel a lot more confident if there was someone with experience nearby to step in if I fuck something up. I can bring all the necessary supplies, I’m just still learning what supplies are necessary.
Again, I’ve already asked a bunch of groups on Facebook and while most were happy to dispense advice and how-to, none of them seem to have any actual space available nearby, and nobody in my social circle does either (they all live in apartments or townhomes either no garage or covered space out of the rain).
I have a Canlis reservation for 2 at 9pm tomorrow. Won’t be able to make it due to change of plans. I have been trying cancel by calling them from last 3 days with no luck. No response to cancellation emails as well. It has 48 hours notice to get reimbursed. Will that be good in my case since I technically told them before 48hours? If not does anyone want the reservation? Looks like it is transferable! Thanks
Which dance troupe is best? Which venue? Do any shows have a live orchestra? Thanks!
Hi everyone. Without going into too much detail, a few months ago I was sexually assaulted by my former partner. Beyond testimony of the assault, text messages from another witness which corroborates the crappy behavior he did to me specifically, and a police report, I don't have any other direct evidence that he sexually assaulted me. I have had him blocked since the morning after and am getting this DVPO to limit in-person contact with him at two public places, besides work and home, that we both frequent and I've had to avoid due to the fear of encountering him. For context, we're both LGBTQ+ and men.
I have a legal advocate from KCSARC submitting the report on my behalf, with the attached evidence and police report, and will be seeking pro bono legal assistance for the case. I was wondering if this had any chance of passing muster in court or if I should seriously limit my expectations as to what the court can do for me. At this point they are my last resort; every one else I've asked are too afraid to do anything.
Hello all.
My partner and her son are going to Seattle for five nights with the main focus being a Seahawks game. I'm trying to get them something and was thinking about a voucher for a restaurant or bar. Son is 16.
Any suggestions? They are both really into their music and he in particular loves the old grunge bands so a music venue would be ideal.
Thanks.
Did you know- SeaTac Airport has the largest parking structure in North America with a single roof? Now you do.
Interstellar is returning to IMAX theaters for its 10th anniversary this year.
It unfortunately won’t be showing in 70mm format anywhere near Seattle, BUT you can catch it at PacSci’s Boeing IMAX theater, which is dual laser.
PacSci just dropped the dates and tickets online, so don’t walk, run!
December 6–8 (4 and 7:30 p.m.) and December 11–12 (4 p.m.).
I found a wallet in the driveway/sidewalk this morning when I was headed out. It has everything in it including a decent amount of cash. Any tips on how to go about finding this person? My suspicion is that it was dropped it while getting in or out of their car. It has a WADL but the address is Everett. I'm in Crown Hill.
An Uber from Queen Anne to the King Street Train Station will cost the same as my one way Amtrak ticket from Seattle to Portland. Bruh
4 miles in Uber = $35 145 miles in Train =$37
#SOME OF YOU MOTHERFUCKERS DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW GOOD WE GOT IT! #I LOOK OUTSIDE AT RAINIER EVERY GOD DAMN DAY AND WHISPER TO MYSELF, “FUCK YEAH, BITCH. Trying to figure out the best PT job for when i return to grad school. I love customer service and think I could be a great server, but making the money work is pretty important.
I'd love to know how much you make (nightly, weekly- doesn't matter) and, if you're comfortable, an idea of where, or what kind of establishment you work at.
Thanks!!
This rocking documentary from 1998.
Anyone just feel shakes?
I am interested in finding a good midwifery birthing center. I am interested in find a good doctor because I will be moving there soon. I am not too familiar with Seattle and have only been visiting for work. I also need helping to include finding a good gastroenterologist and a general doctor.
Thank you!
My cat had to be admitted to the emergency vet late last night and it set me back nearly $4k. He’s still there and might need more care in the near future
I work full time but only make $33hr and don’t have that much flexibility in my schedule for another part time job. I’m looking for random opportunities for some extra cash
anyone have recommendations for plasma donation spots? I’ve done it before a while back just not here.
Also if you have any recommendations for other flexible side gigs that helps too. Can’t drive my car too much though, it’s not in the best condition so that’s why I’m not going the delivery route
Thanks
From a passenger volume perspective, the demand for accessing SEA from Portland and Vancouver is evident:
- YVR-SEA: 621,000 passengers in 2023-2024
- PDX-SEA: 601,000 passengers in 2023-2024
In addition, Vancouver is Portland's top destination (which I assume in part due to Air Canada's worldwide services from YVR):
- PDX-YVR: 151,000 passengers in 2023-2024
Totaling 1.3M+ pax, the demand to go through the three airports are clearly there. I'd say there are probably more people from PDX who want to transfer through SEA than vice versa, considering SEA has a lot more routes domestic and international.
In comparison, the Cascades had 750,000 passengers in 2023. In the linked WSDOT plan, the agency hinted that shuttle services between Tukwila and SEA will encourage multimodal transportation. In the same vein, transferring from King St. to Link is also an option. However, scheduled services with a direct door access to the airport is far more appealing to regional travelers, especially one with a connecting flight.
By tapping into the intercity market, we can expand our railway services using revenues from those travelers. Because of the huge potential, we can expect additional trains to serve the corridor, hauling most people during the day presumably, with lengthened services covering the early and evening hours. Being able to connect from SEA's door to King Street (non-stop), Olympia, Tacoma, Edmonds, Everett, Mt. Vernon and Bellingham with hourly services will drastically improve regional transportation in those areas.
Connecting the railway to SEA also benefits the train system for locals. Since the train will go through all stations, it will also improve frequencies serving between those stations.
Through my pumpkin spice cider glasses, it appears that going from Kent Station - SEA - Allentown would be an option. The hardest part will be to manage the 400' climb in ~3mi to get to Angle Lake. Another option would be to spur from Auburn, but that will eliminate Kent Station access, which is undesirable, and substantially increase the miles of constructions. Tukwila Station will be eliminated either way. Considering the Tukwila Sounders P&R has only 400 stalls... The trade-off for the 1.3M passenger market seems fair.
Budgeting $300M/mi, the Kent-SEA-Allentown ~15mi option will cost about $5B. For a regional project that substantially improves the tri-state/province travelling, that seems to be a very small price to pay. Existing railway yards will be used to service all trains and tracks, eliminating the needs for an immediate expansion of the operation and maintenance facilities.
Overall, I support rerouting Cascades to SEA.
Thank you for reading my armchair analysis.
I've never seen a fully purple mushroom like this before!
