Picnics

Is it legal to set-up an aesthetic intimate picnic in designated public areas? With decor, food & drinks in basket, no sounds system.

I am asking because I saw several event companies offering this service but I just want personally do it for a family gathering. (10-15 pax).

Not sure if there are actual laws and permits I need to be aware of.

Emirate is either Abu dhabi or Dubai. Location still undecided

Tailors in Dubai for Western Women’s Clothes

Hi all, I am looking for a good tailor for western women’s clothes (think office dresses, pencil skirts, jackets, trousers) in the UAE (ideally Dubai / AD / Sharjah, but I can travel) that I can order from on a regular basis (or at least one large order) for a reasonable price.

Does anyone have someone / a company they can recommend?

Also, any guidance on what prices I can expect?

Engagement ring / Arab traditions

I want to propose to my girlfriend and currently, I am looking to buy an engagement ring. Am new to all this, what do we Arabs usually do? When I buy her engagement ring, should I buy mine too with it? Or is she supposed to pick my ring? The man is supposed to buy both rings? Also, can anyone recommend a place in Dubai where I can buy the ring?

Bookstore with CBSE grade 10 textbooks needed (excuse my language)

my school is a fucking hellhole, ever since the start of bridge classes, which was in mid march, till now, none of us have received textbooks, apparently the school is out of stock somehow, and cant give them, many of us have been relying on hand me down textbooks, or textbooks from ex 10 graders and online textbooks. i have exams starting tomorrow and preparing for them have been extremely difficult, not to mention that next week i have exams everyday no day gap with 5 chaps each on average, btw, its still april, our school year just started and their expecting us to write exams without proper textbooks, it has gotten so bad our teachers r personally telling everyone to ditch the school and buy them somewhere else, which leads me to ask if theres any bookstore in sharjah that sells grade 10’s CBSE NCERT textbooks

Job offer decline

I got a job offer that in conversation I was excited about but after seeing the package it doesn’t entice me to leave my current work. The money is great and definitely better than what I’m making but the benefits don’t even touch what I have right now. Plus I’ve heard conversation that it’s a very disorganized place and I’m not sure I want that instability - how do I decline nicely especially because I was so enthusiastic about it in the phone but after comparing the 2 packages I’m more and more sure this move isn’t right.

Pet food

Where is everyone buying their cat food from? I use Petzone but I feel like most of the time their products are out of stock. My cats love carnilove wet food but I hardly come across it on online stores.

Exchange GCC DL to UAE

Hello there!

I plan on moving to Dubai soon, and wondering if it's possible to exchange my saudi driver's license to a UAE driver's license, though i'm not a citizen i'm a resident of saudi arabia. And i'm from tunisia.

Would there be a hassle to do this? How's the procedure.

Worst case scenario subletting my apartment to another family

Have very difficult neighbors who seem to have a habit of harassment as a way of making money likely. They've called the cops on us with false accusations and their kids keep harassing us.

Trying to understand what's the risk? Penalty? Jail? Travel ban?

It looks other people are also subletting or even some singles living in this family building(ijari mentions this as a family building).

Thx

For all the expats living in Dubai, how did you land your job there?

Hey guys! I have been trying for a few months now to land a job in Dubai.

I am 27 years old and I am a Business Developer from Portugal and have been going through all the different job portals and linkedin almost on a daily basis to ensure I cover all the relevant works and companies.

However, so far I have got 0 interviews and 0 concrete opportunities moving forward.

I am curious to know exactly what you did and how you manages to land a role. I know networking is big (I have been doing so via Linkedin) and referrals (no luck on this end). I have also have been cold applying to relevant roles but so far no luck either.

Would you mind sharing some tips and tell your story? I have redone my resume and linkedin profile to be more ats friendly and I saw a slight increase in the profile views but again, nothing serious…

Thanks in advance!

UAE Recruitment Scam is a JOKE!!

Is anyone else tired of these FAKE recruitment agencies in the UAE?!

Here's the scam:

  • They spam you with emails promising jobs.
  • You jump through hoops with endless back-and-forth messages.
  • Interviews are a joke - 50 seconds of nonsense questions that tell you NOTHING about the job.
  • And guess what? They want MONEY upfront for a "guaranteed" offer that never materializes!

This is a total waste of our time and money! They clearly prey on people who are desperate for work. Where's the government on this?! This is outrageous! All I want is a real opportunity, not some shady scheme!

#UAEJobs #RecruitmentScam #WheresTheGovernment

P.S. I won't mention nationalities, but we all know who these "agencies" usually are.

Upvotes for awareness! Let's expose these scumbags!

BDS Boycott - do you guys notice any difference in places like Mcdonalds and Starbucks?

Last time I was in UAE was more than a year ago. I live in Singapore now, and I'm hearing from my Malaysian coworkers that back in their home many prefer not to eat at BDS Boycotted restaurants now. Stores are relatively emptier than before. My question is do you guys notice something similar in the UAE? Especially to those outside of Dubai and in other Emirates.

Even when I was there (RAK) I didn't go to fast food much because the cafeteria under my building and many cafeterias near me made good and cheap food anyway. Cafeteria fries are 50/50, either best fries ever or the cheap tasting ones you buy from grocery. And still I would eat those than Mcdonalds always too salty fries.

Are Abu Dhabi beaches closed? (April 2024)

I went to Corniche last Friday but was disappointed to find it closed due to recent bad weather. The security people said it would be closed at least another week but I'm leaving before then.

Is it worth trying another beach in town or are they all closed? I can't find anything online and am afraid of travelling to one only to find them closed too.

Thanks
