I've noticed that a lot of things that start off being useful just completely fall out of relevancy by the end game, and instead are repurposed into being triggers for some other effects like unconventional systems. Some are never useful at any point, just something fun to try.
Shield & Power Drains - Early game when leveling up these are really helpful, you can drain most of the shields off of a battleship with a single tachyon beam and finish it off with torpedoes, but at a certain point it just stops working, you'll drain maybe 5% of the shields and be better off with something else. The effect of power drains is difficult to gauge, but those with +power to yourself does help a bit.
Shield & Hull Heals - Again, these start off strong, recovering half your hull and fully replenishing shields, but by the end game they are only useful for triggering certain traits or cleansing debuffs. If you think you can be a combat repair ship, you're wrong, combat is too volatile, by the time you see a health bar hit 50% they're already dead and you can't reverse 90,000 damage with your friendly-targeting abilities.
Shields - These were important for surviving torpedo salvoes, you would just die if you allowed a battleship to strike bare hull with a high yield salvo. By the end game shields are tissue paper, they'll be down the moment anything sets its sights on you, not to mention NPC drains are actually spectacularly effective at depleting them, unlike yours.
Debuffs & Controls - Gravity Well for clumping large groups together, AP Beta to lower resistances, Suppression Barrage for lowering damage output. All the other stuff like boarding shuttles? Tractor beam? Warp plasma? Most are relegated to unconventional system triggers.
Stealth - We have this whole system for detectability, consoles that improve it, abilities that buff/debuff it, and I don't recall it ever being important. If you have a cloak you can choose when to reveal yourself and also enjoy a few ambush buffs, that's about it, a few abilities can force you out of cloak. There's no effective in-between.
Like the title says. Some sessions last onyl a few seconds other last a few minutes. barely long enough to to do an ISE run or 2. I have a Nvidia 2060
Things i've done are;
-Force verify (like a thousand times)
-Complete wipe and fresh install of game, 5x. Doesn't seem to matter if its through Epic, Steam, or Arc
-Upgraded from Windows 10 to 11
-Checked/updated drivers
-Safe Mode yields the same results
I have a spreadsheet of incident numbers but no idea what they mean. Any Ideas how to fix this. that I haven't done
Are the Devidian missions gone permanently, Last time I played (years ago) they existed and expanded the Klingon war by quite a bit, but now the war missions seem over after the Doomsday Device.
Saw a post of a new player stuck in a Deep Space Encounter and called their fleet to help. Got me wanting an SOS function for just general use.
I know we have a LFG menu, but I'm sure most new players don't know about that. What I'm thinking is that if you die too many times during a mission, a noticeable button will pop up for you to call for help. Once you do, anyone can then just jump in and rescue you.
Anyone else think this would be a useful tool for new players and/or a fun tool for vets?
Been playing for awhile but using the same 6 characters I made years (upon years) ago. Decided it’s time to make some alts for these recruitment events for some of these account wide unlocks. Delta looks like the only one where I could recruits from all the factions-what would be the benefit of doing so? Do you get the account unlock rewards for each one?
My four Endeavors are: Complete Hive Onslaught Complete Borg TFO's (1) Destroy Borg ships (10) Deal 500,000 phaser damage
I've been waiting 20 minutes and still no TFO activated. There are no other servers to hop to.
The mail system changes to receive items terminal-free means it's now possible to create a Romulan faction toon without a Tovan infestation.
The process is simple: send 5 Romulan faction bridge officers to yourself via mail, send it to your handle (@username#69420 e.g.) They don't have to be SROs, you can use the ones selling for peanuts.
As soon as your character materializes on Virinat, accept the mailed boffs and commission them. That will block the boff slots from being available to Tovan. Done!
This method was previously accessible to owners of the Delta pack, but has now been more widely democratized. Enjoy your Tovan-free playthough!
EDIT: You must play the tutorial for this to work. Sorry!
Taking it back to the days of MySpace lol. Whats your top 5 ships to fly in STO?
Sooooooo. I just wanted to post this somewhere. Back when i had barely gotten the rank Lieutenant-Commander and my first Constitution Class ship I made the stupid noob choice to enter a dangerous section of the quadrant i was in, one that had enemies scaled WAAAAAY higher than i was used to fighting.
Even though in hindsight i was also scaled level wise, i was still a very inexperience player. I got absolutely railed by the enemies, can't remember what they were, and wasn't able to leave the system since i was constantly attacked.
I wrote an SOS to my fleet chat not thinking anything would happen. I was just taking a shot in the dark. Fleet leader was on, asked where i was. I told him and he simply said 'omw'. Nothing much for about 3 minutes, how i survived that long i do not know, when suddenly i hear MULTIPLE warp noises behind me, and when i turned the camera there were 6 or 7 ships there, ALL from the fleet i was apart of. They literally covered my retreat just because. They didn't get anything from it. That was the moment i fell in love with this game.
I'm following Kim but when it shows to go up a Jeffries tube I get no prompt to follow. Anyone else have this issue?
Be nice 🙏😭
Anyone have an issues with it? I earned it from the First Contact Day Event, this morning and I know it specifically says it's for Shuttles & Fighters. However I tried putting it on 4 different shuttles & it won't allow me the equip it.
I tried the type 7, type 10, one of the Runabouts & the Captain's yaht. I couldn't place it in any visual slot or device slot. Every slot was red when I attempted to drag it to one of the slots.
Even when it's in my inventory, it's grayed out.
I've seen it mentioned on here and on chat that the Duderstadt is quite an unpopular ship.
Could someone explain to me why that this is so?
Thanks
The Borg at the antenna spawn right before you check the perimeter around Cochrane's missile base.
Has anyone tried to spawn-camp them with mines and turrets? Is there even enough time to place everything and then clear the base before your stuff would de-spawn anyway?
(yes, I know the transporter should bring in more Borg shortly after you reach the antenna anyway... just wondering if anyone already tried this, and if spawn-camping the Borg everywhere besides the transporter pad made a difference, or at least was fun to try)
My two orders came today and I am pleased. Hopefully, those that ordered around the same time will also get yours soon. Mine came via USPS so be sure to watch for packages.
Can't decide which one I want
I feel like this is an unfair battle every time I go target one all the others attack me, it took them 30 seconds to destroy my ship after literally just respawning. Can someone tell me what I can do
Problematic as a secondary weapon on your captain, since it breaks up any sets that depend on the seecond slot. However, it hits pretty hard when BOffs use it, and they do seem to use it reasonably frequently.
Btw, I have a 15 mil EC cap just to keep in mind.
I need help understanding this fundamental feature on a specific level, and thus, i have one question that i need answered preferably in as much detail as possible. How does the game treat shield facings in regards to the shield capacity statistic? Does the capacity refer to all 4 facings as a total whole or does each individual shield facing have that much capacity?
The reason this is important to understand is because it’s the difference between a shield being circumstancially 4x as effective or 1/4x as effective in practice.
