I'm rolling up a new captain for solo play and got the Allied Military Training option for career. If I take this am I ruling out Starfleet captain or is it possible for Federation world members to join Starfleet mid-career from their native military forces? If it makes a difference the character is Trill and I'm planning to use the Federation-Klingon War setting from the recent tactical campaign.
I'm confused about the difference between the Vicious stress effect and the Depleting stress effect (I believe that was introduced in Utopia Planitia). Vicious increases the stress dealt by 1 for each effect rolled and Depleting reduces enemy shields by 1 for each effect rolled. Doesn't that mean in ship-combat they do the exact same thing?
Hi folks! As part of my adventure design blog, Parables of the Weeping Stag, I gave myself the challenge of writing an adventure for STA in one week. Based on the title of the blog post (Shaka When the Walls Fell), it's probably safe to say it was a bit of disaster. Still, it's a free resource for you to look at and steal stuff from for your own game, especially if you're running a Lower Decks campaign. I also included some advice in the adventure on running comedy, and some suggestions for comedy rules that you might find fun in your game.
Or if you don't want to read my post, or don't like blogs, here a direct link to the adventure. Again, you're free to do what you want with it, so long as you credit me (please)!
Happy gaming, folks!

If you have any feedback on the adventure, I would love to hear it!!
Hi! I’ve mainly done D&D and I’ve stumbled upon STA and I’m super intrigued! I wondered if anyone had any online resources to find a virtual game group for the game cause I don’t think there’s much interest in my immediate community.
I am trying to get into the game and want to have the figurines. I see the figures I want on the website. Problem is I have zero experience with 3d printing.
Where could I go to get 3d printer services? How much can I expect to spend on the printing? What assembly is required? What else can I expect?
Thanks so much!!!
I just got this in the mail today. Half-off during the sale.
With the announcement of second edition, I decided it was finally time to snag up all the books for first edition before they’re no longer available. The sale on the Modiphius website was definitely a contributing factor.
Unfortunately there’s a few books that seem to be a bit more difficult to find available anywhere, specifically the Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook, and the Klingon Core Rulebook.
Does anyone know if these are just permanently out of print? Thanks!
I can't for the life of me find the rule, but how many small craft can a ship carry (presuming it doesn't have the extensive shuttlebays talent)?
I’m thinking of setting a campaign aboard one of these new starbases but to do that I need stats. Thing is, I have no clue what scale a station of this size should be. I believe it’s roughly 2x the size of the old Spacedock, but IIRC there’s more to scale than size alone.
Hi guys,
Is there anyplace I could find STLs of the characters from Voyager? Maybe a Patreon or something?
I know of the Modiphius miniatures, but would like to paint up some other characters.
I'm mostly looking for the Doctor/EMH.
Just started running a Captain's Log campaign for myself. My ship is a Streamrunner class vessel called the USS McAuliffe, named after the Concord Highschool teacher who sadly died in the Challenger explosion (I went to Concord High [Concord NH] - didnt know her - I was 3 when the disaster happened but the name is significant in the community].
My PC is the XO of the ship, a xB (Liberated Borg) Xindi-Reptillian (chose Liberated Borg, rolled randomly for species). 3 biggest disiplines are Security (5), Command (4) and science (3). The captain is a veteran of the Dominion War and came to command during the war so is not accustomed to Peace time federation exploration. She is Human (randomly rolled). Other species/bridge officers/command staff: Chief Medical Officer - a female romulan (unnamed at this time), a Cardassian Science officer, Seshki (play off of Seska, ST: VOY), and A Lurian Chief Engineer (unnamed atm).
I am not stating them and will use the starship department rules to determine how successful that the crew is during tasks. (I am creating there backgrounds with the generators however just to get their personality) Its an eclectic crew. In the first, "Pre-theme" segment, we learn that Seshki and the Romulan CMO do not get along real well, partly due to the predjudice that targets both peoples.
I am excited to complete this first "episode". I am not doing a strict "One task = one scene" - for example: scene 1 was two and scene 2 had 3. Its based on what makes sense at the moment. Now I have a stranded ship in an unknown system trying to determine what is happening. Stay tuned for the adventures of the USS McAullife.
Simply put, I love this system. It’s cinematic, collaborative and easy to run. What I’m looking for are some conversions. Ok, one. I want to run a Star Wars game with this system. I think the one the FFG and now Edge has is just too clunky compared to STA. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. Otherwise, once the corebook comes out, I’m going to have to see what I can come up with.
Always wanted to play a Telepath in the game, I just don’t like Betazoid culture, plus I think it would be more interesting to play a character who sees this as a borderline curse.
What fun values can I make with this rough outline?
Hi, I'm looking for examples or walkthroughs of playing Captains Log that aren't just YT vids - I'd like to learn the process, but I can't really play videos at work (public facing!). Does anyone have any text based examples?
I am new to STA and trying to prep the Shackleton expanse as GM (and for solo Captain’s Log) and I am trying to understand what happened to the USS Lexington at the end of Part 2. Spoilers below.
There is brilliant art and text about another Constitution class ship destroying the Lexington but it’s identify us secret. Is it ever officially established which Constitution class vessel it was? Was it the USS Astrad? Is Stoker involved?
If there is no satisfy offical reveal, what are your favourite head cannon for what happened (in your game world)?
One reason I find #StarTrek to be such an effective foundation for RPGs is due to its crew based premise and clear mission objectives. Yet spotlighting a single character to tell their story is easily the most common narrative structure used in practice. So how would this be pulled off in #STA? Are there specific rules for it? What should one watch out for when implementing this model of play, and how could those issues be addressed?
I recently started a blog, since I'm interested in how presentation and information organization are important elements of writing adventures. In my first post I talked about my favorite STA scenario, Border Dispute, and I thought the people here might find it interesting :). Let me know if you have thoughts, and if there are any other scenarios you might be interested in reading about in the future. I plan to, eventually, write posts on the scenarios Lurkers and A Cure Worse Than the Disease, as well as the scenarios from the Lower Decks expansion. I also plan on writing up my two favorite scenarios I wrote and ran for my players. Ciao!

Are there any groups that meet up IRL in the San Antonio area?
Rios has a talent (emergency holographic team) that creates an advantage. The ship’s can have a talent that narratively does a similar thing; however mechanically that one allows for supporting characters to be introduced.
I get the difference between the talents belonging to a character or a ship. My questions are:
Thanks for the information. I’m still learning the system.
Hello everybody and happy Friday!
I've been collecting resources to be able to use with the Captain's Log and I had a question. I want to start my character off by running the starfleet academy mission brief, but need some guidance on how to use one of these briefs with Captain's log. I know I use the "Major and Minor beats" as major and minor plot points respectively, but am not sure how to come up with situations for the character in this instance. Any suggestions?
Am I imagining it or is there somewhere that mentions that federation ship phasers have the Versatile quality?
I am excited to get into the game. I've been unable to find a group of familiar people to play the game. Can't wait to get going!
OK, I give up. Everyone else in the picture represents an era and uniform style. Who is this guy? Civilian scientist or diplomat?
I've just gotten a 3d printer, so I've been printing a lot of the STA minis lately, is there any chance we'll be getting more of those? Perhaps sets for the other series main cast? I'd love some DS9 or Lower Decks minis.
