Costs associated with getting a SCCA Full Competition license: ~$12,500

Thought this information may be of use to those looking to get into the sport.
I got my full competition license registered today and was wondering how much it cost me to even get to this point.

3 day racing school: $7,500

This waved the initial requirements when applying for the novice license and counted for 1 event out of 3 required by SCCA to get the full license.

Event #2:
SCCA Time Trial registration: $300
Rented a spec miata: $900

Event #3:

Test day before race weekend: $375
SCCA regional race weekend: $700
Rented Spec Miata for 3 days (test day + Saturday/Sunday events): $2700.

So $12,500ish to go from Novice Permit to Full license, not including gear. YMMV for racecar rental prices.

What’s your approach for ensuring you’re aware of your surroundings and still focused on what you’re doing while in a race?

I’m a somewhat new driver getting more involved with racing. I find myself having my eyes glued to the mirrors whenever I know there’s a car behind me but I’m finding I need a better balance of being aware there’s a car behind me and being able to tell what they may plan to do, verses keeping my eyes ahead and focused on my own race. How do you balance this?

Want to see what you and your car can do on the track? The AROSC (Alfa club) is holding a school at Streets of Willow Springs Sept 10/11th. Screaming deal.

Getting into it this summer.

Hi, my names Kyle. I’m a teenage boy from New York and I really want to get into motor sports this summer. So, I was specially looking at this girl who’s drives named “Auora Straus” who started when she was my age around, at around 16 and or 17 she was racing at the Continental Tire Sports Challenge and I found that really interesting. This summer maybe of 22’ I was wondering if I could get into it as well, she also attended soemthing in Florida when she was around 14. I have knowledge on racing, shifting, etc. I wouldn’t really mind what type of car I drove like Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari, etc. So I was just wondering about it. Thanks all help is appreciated! I’m coming from quite a rich / wealthy family as well. I’ve been to at least two race tracks and I do motocross before as well with a Kawasaki 4 stroke bike.

Does anyone have any experience running a Porsche 996 for road racing?

My friend and I are looking to start a team up and are looking at car options. I own a 996 but it’s a road car. I’m curious at what we’d be looking at for stripping it and building a racecar out of it for SCCA races.
