Local Info Shop?

Is there an info shop in Spokane? (a la Lucy Parsons in Boston or Bluestockings in NYC)

Failing that, where's the best place to meet up with other Queer Anarchists?

Couch surfing/housing

If anyone in Spokane has a couch I can crash on until next Friday that would be greatly appreciated. I am currently homeless and have been jumping around from different Airbnbs. I start work tomorrow at Amazon in the valley and work Wednesday-Saturday 6pm-430am and won’t get paid until next Friday 12/13. Just looking for a place to rest after my shift and stay out of the cold before my first paycheck comes. Will meet and talk in person first if needed and help with anything around the house/apartment

Where is a good place to get an oil change in the Valley?

I'm convinced TireRama fucked up my rear shocks/struts last time (I also had a tire rotation done) because as soon as I left I started getting an error code and that's what it turned out to be. Cost nearly $2k to get that fixed.

Soak off acrylics

Does anyone have any recommendations for a nail place that will actually soak off your acrylic nails instead of just prying them off? My acrylics need to be removed and fully redone and I'm tired of places damaging my nails by just prying them off instead of properly removing them. Trans friendly would be a plus.

Metered parking

I have a dumb question that's probably already been answered but here it goes.

When parking at a meter downtown that you can pay using park mobile, can you use someone else's time left on the meter?

The reason I ask is that you can pay at the meter without any personal info or on your phone in which case you enter your license plate etc. If someone leaves who payed with there license on record with time remaining, can I use it freely and buy more time when it runs out? It's displayed on the meter btw.

Thanks everyone.

Local food bank help

Hello, I am new to utilizing food banks in the area and was hoping if someone knows of ones with the best resources. Honestly anything at all helps at this point, I'm not picky!

I've been struggling so much lately- started a new job and had to miss a week because of getting extremely sick (no sick pay for 90 days). I've had two dental emergencies in the past few months and it's completely wiped out my savings. I work full time minimum wage and have been delivering food for Doordash when I can. After paying rent this month, I do not have the funds to afford food at the moment. I'm extremely overwhelmed and embarrassed about my situation. I am not looking for handouts, just some advice on where to go please. Thank you.

Winter casual basketball ball pickup games for teens?

Does anyone know where good places are for teens to meetup and be able to play pickup (or even scheduled) basketball games? Other than the obvious like YMCA/Airway Heights Rec Center?

Does anyone know what’s going on with this? (taken from near Stevens & Fourth)

Title. Seems to be at least one fire engine and most likely a couple police cars and an ambulance or two

Experience Gifts for older couple

My grandmother recently reconnected with an old flame and is out there living her best life with him. They're all over facebook going on cute dates, taking two step classes, singing karaoke, pushing each other on swings at the park, it's so cute. She lives in Austin, TX and he is in Spokane, where she will be spending the next few months and (hopefully) spending regular time as well.

We want to get her a cute little "gift basket" of date night experiences for their time in Spokane for Christmas this year but, being from Austin myself, I don't have a ton to go on. Right now we have:

  • Numerica Skyride and Looff Carousel tix
  • Wild Sage gift card
  • Movie tickets gift card (not local specific but, just a thing I know she loves)
  • The Scoop gift card

Any other ideas for two older folx (so you know, not skydiving or whiskey bars) in their second and maybe best era??? Preferably looking for things that are a little more "experiences" over just food. She loves crafting, gardening, cooking/baking. To my knowledge she's not much of a museum nut but other than that I fully embrace outside of the box suggestions

Reminder: Spokane, you're NOT getting enough Vitamin D!

Fight Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD/Winter blues)!

Most (>80%) of the blood labs taken of Spokane residents during the Winter are lacking (deficient or insufficient) in Vitamin D. You should be taking supplements. We don't get enough sun here and when we do you're so bundled up that you barely get enough sun anyways. You should be taking at least 600 IU of Vitamin D (diet + supplements) every day. (source) And it's incredibly difficult to overdose.

According to Cleveland Clinic, here are symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency:

Signs and symptoms might include:

However, you may have no signs or symptoms of vitamin D deficiency.

Does anyone else remember the Hot Dog Stand at the Home Depot in the Valley?

Basically the title.

This came up in conversation with family recently. I remember when I was a kid that whenever I went to the Home Depot in the Valley with my dad, we would get a got dog at this little hot dog stand connected to the store. It wasn't affiliated with Home Depot (at least I don't think it was?), but if my memory is correct, it was connect to the store entrance. I'm not sure when the stand closed but it's a fond childhood memory.

Does anyone else remember this?

Suffered ID theft. Seeking legal advice/guidance - plz help

Hello Spokane--

In desperate need of legal guidance/advice. Specifically as it relates to personal/business credit and identity theft.

I don't expect a person to make a case or go to court on behalf of this issue--simply need some council and guidance.

Have searched for, and applied to, all the free/low income options found on google for this area (in particular the SCBA VLP, CLEAR, Moderate Means Program [seems to be closed now?])

I'm overwhelmed, lost, and scared. I'm also not guilty ;) I'd really love some help or advice to help me improve this situation.

I understand that time and expertise have a cost and although I do not have sufficient income to properly hire a lawyer, I'd be willing to work to earn some time and help. Have a wide skill set and am confident I could contribute meaningfully.

Please: if you are able to assist, or know someone who can, please consider reaching out.

Thanks for your time and consideration, I look forward to hearing from you.

E-bike repair

I bought a cheap e-bike off Amazon that won’t power up. After contacting them they have sent me several repair components, none of which have fixed the issue.

They said they would pay for a shop to troubleshoot/repair it, but what shops in town will work on a cheapo e-bike? (it’s an Ancheer)

Odd SPD stance here

I love my SPD and am grateful for them, but I just walked out of my building downtown and an officer has - I guess - pulled someone over and is asking them questions. But the way he is leaning on - almost in - the car struck me. So I snapped it.

Good tattoo artists?

Moved here a few years ago looking to get some ink. I've seen some tattoos in the area that well, didn't look great. Money isn't an issue - I'm looking for quality. Any recommendations?

Looking for a place to work on my car

Looking for a place to do some work on my car. I need to bleed brakes, install 4 rotors n pads, install 4 motor mounts, replace a arms and tie rods, replace front wheel bearings, replace spark plug, wires and coil packs and some other stuff. I don’t have a garage and my driveway is way too steep to jack up my car. There’s no side walk or shoulder and the street is also a littte steep. Any suggestions.?Ive heard about working outside oriellys or autozone but im not sure that’s allowed, also heard about Walmart but they got security driving around. I don’t want to take it to a shop I have all the tools and parts already.

Hey all, anyone going to see Hail The Sun in March at the knit? I’d ideally like to go with someone :)

Hello, so as the title implies, I’m looking for someone to go see Hail The Sun with in March, I’m a pretty kind-hearted, considerate and open person, so I’m totally open to talking for awhile and seeing how things go in the mean time. :) just fyi, I’m 20M but I’ll go with anyone, just be kind as well and around my age. I already have an unused second general access ticket just in case. Any other questions are welcome to dm in case I didn’t cover everything :)

Is Spokane usually this foggy throughout the year?

Coming from a newbie who has only been here 15 months. Seems like almost every season has a ton of fog and this fall/winter is similar to last in that many days appear to have fog. It doesn't tend to come up in stereotypes about the city which is why I'm curious.

And I've lived in quite a few places. Spokane is the foggiest place I've lived by far.
