Useful NHS information:
As slow and clunky as it may be, we are lucky to have the NHS as a free resource. Don't hesitate to make an appointment with your GP and ask for a referral if you have severe issues or at a loss with what to do next with your skin.
If they aren't helpful the first time, try and try again until you find someone who is. An £9 prescription is going to be much cheaper than constantly trying products that you don't know will work.

My routine: The Ritual of Namaste velvety smooth cleansing foam (when i wash my face 2× a day)
Byoma - moisturizing gel-cream SPF 30 (in the morning)
TheInkeylist - 10% Azelaic acid serum (morning and night)
Mádara hydra intense rose jelly (at night)
The ordinary - AHA 30% BHA 2% peeling solution (once a week)
Savlon antiseptic cream (on my spots 2× a day)
I have been buying this stuff for years after suffering from backne, but it looks like this is getting more and more expensive to buy in UK, even from eBay.
Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash for Clean Clear Skin, Salicylic Acid
Where do others buy this in the UK or do people have alternatives now? Not sure if I still need it really but been my go to for a while

I was recently diagnosed with rosacea after suddenly developing burning red flare ups all over my cheeks, with lots of tiny ‘whitehead’ like spots. A few weeks ago I was prescribed Metrogel (metronidazole 0.75%) to see if it would calm down. They also offered antibiotics but I refused these. I have now been using it for two weeks and I think I’ve seen a reduction in the number of spots on my cheeks. However these spots are now appearing more in my smile lines and next to my nose (where I haven’t been applying the gel).
Do you reckon this is still rosacea? Could it be perioral dermatitis? Is there any harm in trying the Metrogel here to see if it helps?

Hi all. My skin usually gets a bit drier at this time of year, particularly after showering, and I'd like to supplement my usual moisturising with a hydrating toner or serum underneath.
My routine is currently:
I think it makes more sense to incorporate the toner in my AM routine. I have combination skin which is oily in the centre of my face and dry around my hairline, but really I'm just looking for anything that will hold onto hydration better overall.
So, my palms, out of nowhere started to...kind of peel? I have hypothyroidism so dry skin is normal, but luckily i never had that problem.
It's the 1st time it happens to me and my palms are my only problem. The other palm is not as bad as this (worse in real life than picture). It's not itchy and it doesn't hurt but it makes me worries.
Also, lately my ears feel dry and itchy so i considered eczema but something doesn't match, so i came here asking for answers.
I also used a new sanitiser to clean 3 days ago, and yesterday this palm thingy started.
Anyone had this problem before? Should i worry? They don't bother me at all, I'm just imagining what's worse, with all my new diagnoses 🤣🤣 i don't want to add to the list.
thank you
I’m talking about my whole body, not my face.
My skin has been discoloured and dull my whole life and I need a change. I’ve seen kojic acid been recommended but most products I’ve seen in the UK are apparently false. Is it available anywhere from a reliable and safe source?
Cheaper alternatives to this? Anyway recommendations appreciated :)
I think my scalp is dry as my hair is becoming very dry after I wash and blowdry it, staying that way for a few days after. I never used to have this so I assume it started when my scalp also began to get itchy and I got breakouts on my scalp. What's the best remedy for this.
Hey,
31y/o male here and as you can see, my skin isn't in good condition. I've tried a number of different brands for a skincare routine and if anything it makes the redness worse. What would people advise? Thanks
Hi there i currently use the hydrating cleanser but don’t think it’s doing enough at reducing acne and blemishes. I was told the SA smoothing cleanser would be good for my skin but it says it’s for “dry rough and bumpy” skin while my skin is oily. Was this bad advice ?
Heya - I'm trying to stock up and save some money by getting things on sales, let's list the Black Friday Sales that are coming up in November. I know Niod already has a sale on. Dermatology and Allies of Skin also have sales for the whole of November. I know Geek & Gorgeous will have one coming up - does anyone which date? They don't do the whole month but a specific date?
Would greatly appreciate any advice on how to save money while buying skincare! Thank you!
I wanted a opinion my current skin care routine as im still pretty new to this stuff. My skin is quite sensitive also i do suffer from acne here and there.
Morning routine
-Vitamin E moisturiser toner (The Body shop) -Vitamin E moisture gel cream (The Body shop) -haruharu wonder sunscreen (only if im going out)
The night routine is the same expect i don't use toner. I've thinking about replacing my moisturiser cream and also adding a eye cream to my routine.
Hey everyone,
I could use some advice. I double cleanse with Simple Kind to Skin Hydrating Cleansing Oil and Dr Sam’s Flawless Cleanser, spending about a minute on each step. But my skin doesn’t feel fully clean, and I can see and feel residue that comes off on the cotton pads when I use toner.
Any recommendations for products that might work better? I have combination, acne-prone skin.
Thank you!
Hi, I'll try and keep this short. I signed up to Dermatica to treat textured skin, hyperpigmentation, etc.
The website has you upload photos from various angles before prescribing for your perceived problem areas.
I was prescribed a cream with 0.025% Tretinoin and 4% Niacinamide and the instructions clearly told me to start applying "1-2 pumps" of the product nightly.
I must note that I stopped all other skincare serums when I began using Dermaticas formulation. The only product I am using is Simple Face Wash in the morning (which is extremely gentle) and my usual moisturiser (Body Shop Shea lotion).
Anyway, on day 4, I woke up in pain - my skin was flaking and dry and extremely red around my mouth, nose, under my eye and forehead. I stopped using the product immediately but it's been a few days since this has happened, and I'm still struggling.
Now, the corner of my mouth has become sore and cracked, and no amount of moisturiser seems to settle it. My forehead looks weirdly shiny and patchy as though it's experienced a chemical burn.
I do assign this to Dermatica's product. I contacted them, and they said stop using the cream immediately (already done) and moisturise liberally and use SPF until my skin settles. They also told me it's normal for people to experience reactions such as mine whilst your skin is adapting, but I'm angry they initially advised that it was fine me to go in and use this daily.
I don't know what to do to speed up the recovery and feel like my skin was better before using this stuff.
Has anyone else had this experience, and how have you managed it?
My skin is very dry and bit of damaged barrier. Also I’m 27.
Please suggest me moisturizers and serums for both AM and PM. For night time I want a moisturizer that I can use before my Purito bamboo panthenol cream maybe. Also I want brightening or whitening effect.
Do I apply cica barrier/panthenol barrier after the moisturizer?
Current routine: AM: I’m from rice toner > iunik vitamin propolis serum > snail mucin > centella sunscreen
PM: klairs supple toner > iunik vitamin propolis serum > snail mucin > purito cica barrier sleeping pac
Looking for suggestions for an all in one moisturiser and SPF (preferably factor 50) that’s lightweight, has a matte finish and is cruelty free - so preferably also not a hugely mass produced Unilever-y type product if possible!
Willing to spend up to £60 if it’s an absolutely great product that meets everything I’m looking for
Don’t have any particular concerns to address, beyond laziness and a need for something that does everything in one!
Full story: I never really use anything on my face at all, and just wash it while in the shower, with whatever shower gel I happen to be using. Every moisturiser I’ve tried (usually supplied by friends/family horrified my routine consists of washing my face with shower gel about 5x a week) felt super heavy and greasy and clogg-y, and my skin has always seemed fine so I just never bothered with it.
The only product I have ever actually liked was a little sample of Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate I got with a perfume. It smelt gorgeous and felt lovely on my skin, no sticky, heavy, clogg-y feeling and didn’t make me shiny, but A) It doesn’t have any SPF B) from the couple of hours I have spent lurking in this sub it sounds like it has basically nothing useful in it whatsoever C) it’s not cruelty free and D) it costs an actual fortune (I know you can get deals on it, find it in TK Maxx etc etc but my skincare routine literally consists of washing my face with my shower gel so paying that much for a serum that apparently does nothing and would need to be used with other products is just a no lol)
That said I’m almost 40 now and starting to take care of my skin is the next step in my “prepare for/try and avert a midlife crisis” plan 😂
I know I won’t keep up with one of the ‘4 steps in the am, then 6 in the pm’ type routines most of my friends have, as much as I wish I could commit to that! So trying to start small with something all-in-one first.
I do realise I will also need a proper cleanser to use am & pm if I’m wearing SPF daily, but the world of cleansers feels like waaaay less of a minefield!
So I feel like this is something I probably should have worked out by now at my age but I haven’t 🙃 I used to have pretty good skin as a teenager, just get the occasional spot (and pick it until it became ridiculously conspicuous) but as I’ve got older and approaching my 30s my skin has got so much worse in varying ways.
I honestly have no idea what my skin type is, what kind of products I need, what I need to combine them with, how to tell if it’s working… Whenever I try and find out I’m either so overloaded with conflicting information that I get overwhelmed, the suggestions are far too expensive for me, or if I ask “professionals” I just feel like they’re trying to sell me stuff that isn’t necessarily going to be good or the right thing for me.
Main issues:
Dry skin
Skin looking really dull
Little bit of redness in places
Breakouts
Dark circles under/around my eyes
Uneven skin tone
Weird texture on my eyelids? My makeup never used to smudge onto the bit below my eyebrow but now it does all the time, no matter what makeup or setting spray or powder I use. It almost feels… tacky or oily? But the rest of my face is definitely dry except maybe the under eye area, temples, eyelid zone.
Makeup sitting weirdly on my face
Milia (never used to get these before)
So how can I actually find out what I need to do without ending up with a million products that will end up being wasted? I don’t know what actually works or what’s a fad or an urban myth.
I’ve tried sticking to various routines over the years but never felt like they had much benefit. At the moment I’m using elf holy hydration toner and moisturiser or the Cerave spf moisturiser
Does anyone suffer from urticaria ? because I’m losing my mind 😅 It’s been around 3/4 years and the only thing that helps is taking an antihistamine every day, if I stop I’ll start getting this random itchiness on my body and I can’t help it, but start scratching my skin, obviously the area will turn red, it won’t look like a rash, the skin just gets red and the scratches will be visible. I tried to go see a dermatologist through the NHS, but they don’t want to refer me, they say that it’s just urticaria and I need to deal with it, it should last about 1year, but as I said, it’s been 3/4 years of taking antihistamines every day. Has anyone dealt with this?
TIA
I have fairly deep static forehead and I’m only 30. I’ve been using the neutrogena retinol rapid wrinkle repair cream every night for like 5 months and it’s made little to no difference tbh.
Does anyone know the retinols that work for static wrinkles? I’m looking to potentially go down the tretinoin route to open to recommendations for that as well.
I’m not interested in Botox.
I recently finished accutane and after months of not having any serums in my routine(only very gentle washes, thick moisturiser, and SPF) I'd like to know how to approach a good skincare routine from here. My skin changed a lot, before I used to focus my skincare products based on what would get rid of my acne. However, now I have clear skin!
Such a good thing, but my skin is dry, dull, and I think lacks elasticity, wich makes my wrinkles aparent. I'd like to know what people use on the daily that actually made a change!
I got prescribed treclin gel nearly 8 weeks ago now from boots online doctor and i've been using it consistently ever since (pretty much every single night), however im not too sure if it's really working for me.
for brief context ive struggled with moderate acne since i was about 18 and im now 24, it used to be a lot worse and id always have big sore breakouts all over my face. however it massively calmed down when i was about 22 i think because i stopped drinking as much, my diet also improved and i was just living a healthier lifestyle in general and i basically had 0 bad breakouts for about 2 years.
but over the last 3 months-ish it got quite bad again around my mouth/cheeks for seemingly no reason. nothing i did seemed to calm it down so i bought the prescription from boots.
as i say its now been 8 weeks and although its not quite as bad as my flare up 3 months ago, i can't really see that much of a significant improvement, my pigmentation and redness is still bad from the flare up and im still getting some (but less) new breakouts. its also causing some peeling and making the lines around my mouth stand out a bit more.
could the purging phase just be taking longer for me? i'm aware i need to reduce use for redness peeling etc and perhaps up moisturiser use but ive also heard that using moisturiser at the same time as treclin can reduce its effectiveness.
any insight would be really appreciated :) also as to why ive suddenly had a bad flare up again after years of my skin being basically fine
Hey All,
So I've normally been buying my Tretinoin from Skinorac which seemed pretty straight forward. When paying via PayPal it cost 10% more but I was fine with this. Recently I've just tried to put through an order via PayPal again but it fails giving me an error message. I've tried on several different browsers also.
My mum also tried and the same story so I'm thinking it's just a problem with the site? I've tried contacting them via their support email but I never had a response. I've also tried AllDayChemist (they seem to be the same company as their bank details are the same) anyway, I tried paying via Bank Transfer and my banks stopped it and made me call them.
I said to them on the phone I've ordered before and I trust them, it's only £26 but still he wouldn't let me put it through. So now I've got no way to pay them.
I did try via Debit Card however doing so they ask for your Drivers License or some kind of ID which I don't feel comfortable submitting.
Does anyone else know of another website or have an alternative method to pay them? I'm kind of stuck!
I have a scratch on my face which I got from falling down in May and it’s still red and hasn’t gone away.
