Don't got to the Pub on Madison
DONT EVER GO TO THE BAR The Pub On Madison they will defend the person when someone makes fun of you and call you a retarded and when your try to go back inside to tell your friends then don't care the bouncer with push you down the stairs and I kick him in the shins twices in self defense. Get try to knock me out cold and kill me. I told the Albany Police Department but they don't care about feeling and who started what first so, I'll just Share this on Facebook for everyone to see. Albany don't care about people being call retarded and when they stand up for themselves and try to not make a scene they will take the side of the bar. So good on you, that is not humane at all. I have bruises that I will share, no one filled a report because they didn't care, and we live in 2019. You going to allow people to bully others if they are a little slower then other for no reason. Gtfo that is so freaking frowned upon and I what people to like that s to know that the cops and the bouncer/pub are wrong. 1

    Anyone without power?

I live in Rotterdam, my power and heat went out around 11pm last night. I’ve been trying to call national grid ended calling 20 times and one person answered to help me report the outage. It’s almost 9am and still nothing.

Things to do and organizations to join

Hi, I'm looking for community groups and activist groups that I might be able to join. I know about All of Us, Progressive Schenectady, and Citizens Action. Are there any other groups that have events or that I could organize with?

    Affordable PT/OT for forearm injury

I'm trying to find an affordable area for PT/OT on a forearm sports injury. Unfortunately, it will be out of pocket because of my high deductible plan.

I tried scheduling with St Peters Clifton Park PT but they refused to tell me what it would cost before my appointment. I also tried Repsher but they said they don't do OT, which it falls under.

    Any suggestions would be nice.

    Schenectady YMCA

I am thinking about joining the YMCA in Schenectady. I am primarily interested in taking their Yoga and Zumba classes. Is there easy parking at the Y in the evenings? Is it safe for a single older woman alone at that time of day? TIA

    Schenectady and Hitler

Just an interesting fact: if Hitler had invaded the US, Schenectady was on his top 10 list of places to bomb, because of all the manufacturing that went on there.

    Looking for a roomate

Hey all! Me and my boyfriend’s lease is up in April and we were hoping to get a townhouse with some roommates. Due to use being new in the area and workaholics we haven’t really met many people to ask if any wanted to join us.

We don’t have a set place we’re moving into but looking in the Schenectady, Niskayuna, colonie Latham area hoping to find a place with 3 bed rooms so we would hopefully find 2 new roommates, we’re 22 (f) and 23 (m) looking for people close to our age

We have a medium pit mix that doesn’t do well with other dogs so no other dogs allowed but you would have to be okay with dogs, she’s a sweetheart but takes a minute to warm up to new people, and we have a cat who is super friendly and loving. Other cats would be okay as long as they are okay with dogs

We aren’t looking to move until April of 2025 but I’m putting this out there early so that we can get to know each other before hand and make sure we’re a good match for living in the same house

    Coffee shop recommendations

Hi everyone! Novel Biblio Brew has been my favorite coffee shop in Schenectady, but unfortunately they’ve announced that they’re closing. Anyone know of some good coffee shops where I could go to get some studying done? A similar vibe to Novel would be an added bonus.

Novel Biblio Brew is Closing! But New Entrepreneurial Opportunity Avail

Anyone else saddened by this? Hoping someone will take up the mantel! The message from their newsletter:

With mixed emotions, we’re sharing some heavy news. We’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to close by year’s end.

We’ve worked so hard to create an inclusive and welcoming environment that celebrates diversity, a love of literature, and meaningful connection with others. We’re endlessly grateful to our extraordinary staff and to the very special customers who’ve made this vision possible.

We’d absolutely love to identify an individual or team with the energy and drive to keep this dream-come-true of a business open! We’ve laid the groundwork, and there’s truly so much potential to build upon. Our lovingly crafted space would make a perfect turn-key opportunity for someone interested in assuming ownership of the existing business and all of its assets, or someone starting a new concept. Please help us spread the word! Interested parties may contact us at hello@novelbibliobrew.com to discuss further.

We know many folks out there love and appreciate our space and the community we’ve built, and we hope you’ll take this opportunity to visit a few more times before we close up shop. In the spirit of transparency, we’d like to share with you our plan moving forward.

Effective immediately, we’re shifting our hours to 9am-8pm Thursdays through Saturdays and 9am-5pm on Sundays to allow for additional weekend hours. Also, we are no longer accepting used books.

We’ll continue business as usual through the rest of November, with 11/30 being the final day of alcohol sales. That’s 7 more days of regular operations between now and the end of November— please stop by to enjoy a cocktail or help us kick a keg between now and then! We have a late-night karaoke party planned on Saturday 11/30, and we’d love for you to come and help us end things on a high note. Novel will also have an incredibly charming little greenhouse (alongside other spectacular local vendors) at the Schenectady Winter Village at Frog Alley, running November 22 - December 22. We could not be more excited about this event! Our sweet little pop-up will be chock full of delightful books, gifts, and holiday cheer— and we would love to see you there.

For the month of December, we’re not going anywhere! We’ll continue to offer specialty coffee and a full food menu as we begin to clear our inventory of beautiful books and retail. Please consider us in your holiday shopping plans this season! We have something for everyone on your list. And of course, we’ll be serving up your seasonal favorites—like scratch-baked gingerbread cookies and peppermint mochas—all day long. Please show our team some love and generosity during this festive holiday season— we invite you to eat, drink, and be merry! December 29th will be our final day of food and drink operations.

As always, shop small and support Schenectady! If the independent businesses that make up the fabric of our communities have a special place in your heart, it’s vitally important to consistently choose local over megacorporations as often as you are able.

Closing this chapter will be bittersweet for us all, but it’s truly been a pleasure. What could be better than books, coffee, and community? Our deepest thanks to you all for giving Novel BIBLIO•BREW a try. We hope to see you soon!

    Lighted Turf Athletic Fields

Does anyone know about any lighted turf athletic fields near Schenectady? Trying to organize ultimate frisbee for after work going into Winter and eventually early Spring when snow isn't on the ground. I'm hoping to find a free option that doesn't require reservations, but I'd still be curious to know about paid options and how to reserve these spaces.

Anyone have a recommendation for an estate liquidator or resale/vintage shop for buying estates?

    Folks,

We are in the unenviable position of needing to prepare a relative's home (located in the Stockade) for sale. The contents are generally unremarkable, although there may be some "desirable" 1940 - 1960s era "kitschy" / vintage items (and also a bunch of garbage). We are basically on the fence between working to attempt to sell these items or simply arrange for an unceremonious "trash out" (which is what our Schenectady-based real estate agent is recommending). Basically, this is a situation where any money we'd make is going straight to Medicaid, or the nursing home, or other creditors; however, for among other reasons, we are reluctant to send the material to the dumpster with no effort.

What we've done so far: some basic Internet research on local estate companies turned up two options. With one, I was concerned with some of the Google reviews, so I did reach out to the second. In that case, while correspondence is still ongoing, I'm having difficulty getting the estate company to commit to coming and looking at the items (although we are out of state, we have a local family member who can show the items).

So, in case anyone has gone through a similar experience lately, or has any pertinent general contacts or advice, I'd appreciate your feedback (even if the feedback is -- "just not worth your time to try to sell, if this is the detritus of your average lower middle class nonagenerian").

    Thanks!

Recommended Contractor: Weber Carpentry and Home Improvement

Disclaimer: I'm not a paid shill. I'm a happy customer.

I don't know about others but finding a good general contractor is really tough these days. I don't want to have to look through yelp or any other service, so I thought I'd post this here in case others are looking for a good general contractor.

The company is Weber Carpentry and Home Improvement. The owner is Donald (Don). Website is www.webercarpentry.com . Phone is 518-860-2327. I've had 2 doors (1 interior, 1 exterior) installed by him and they came our great. Price was fair. He was good at communicating. Highly recommended. His business card says he does windows, doors, kitchens, bathrooms, drywall, decks, and more.

Any place to worship in the area that isn't christianity based?

I don't mind driving a while. I just want to find somewhere to meditate, pray, and maybe even build some community in a non-jesus-y way.
