Part of the NY Circlejerkin' Network

I'm from Boston, and travel for work, to Albany a lot in particular. I consider the man a regional treasure and have perfected the phrase "Zero down, $199 a month" in his amazing voice.

The backstory of his crew intrigues me. I feel like Tom is much more skilled than Billy, but has no self-confidence and as a result is totally subservient. At one point, Billy slept with Tom's wife. When he got caught, Billy told him he was doing it to prove she was disloyal and he should thank him. So Tom did thank Billy, and divorced his first wife soon after. Secretly, Billy only keeps Tom around to run the shop in the winter when he flies down to Orlando for the weather. Every year, he tells Tom he can go along with him next year. Next year shall never come.

One year Billy ran ads touting "Domestic Violence Awareness Month", in which he would "beat all prices in house." It was a terrible pun and deolorable message that was somehow free from any public outrage.

Pajama Pants in public?

New to the area, why do so many people around here wear pajama pants in public? Like at moderately nice restaurants! What am I missing?

How do i become a slumlord?

I (17m) have always thought of myself as a natural born enterpenor. The other day, i was driving my 2020 audi a5 (yes i bought it with my own savings from the allowance my dad gives me) through the less “desirable” parts of town. Suddenly, a thought occurred to me. Why would i, a young enterpenor trying to build myself up from the streets of east hills (our house is only valued at 3.5 million $), work a 9-5 job when i can just collect money at home by being a slumlord. As i kept driving through arbor hill, i began scouting out potential real estate i could buy with my enterpenorial allowance savings. I wanted to share this to see if anyone else has any experience in this business. What tips and tricks might you have? How much money, on average, do you bring in per month. Thank you in advance!

Hi all! Our landlords are looking for new tenants for the first floor apartment below us, and have asked us to find them. Perfect place for a small family!

3 bedrooms, a dining room/play room, washer/dryer hook ups, giant yard, super cute neighborhood in North Colonie school district. Rent is 1525 which is a GREAT price for a 3br in this location.

PM if interested!!

Late summer vacation

Not sure if this is the appropriate community, just searched for a local sub and this came up.

My wife and 2 young kids are looking to go on a 2 day vacation before school starts up again. My ask is, do any of you have any favorite vacation spots within a 4 hr drive. I'm open to all suggestions but we're thinking the beach near the ocean.

Is $250,000 annual salary enough to move to Albany?

Hey y’all. I’m a 24M senior software dev at FAANG making $250,000 salary (fully remote). Actually I make more than that, I just don’t count my stock options as income. I started thinking that it could make good financial sense for me to take advantage of my fully remote employment, move to Albany because it’s lower cost of living than Bay Area. All the money I save I could build up and ball out periodically with my bros in Vegas, Thailand, Amsterdam, etc.

So I want to know if $250,000 annual salary is enough to live comfortably in the Albany area. Is that enough to snatch away a few starter homes from struggling locals looking to start their family? I’d be sure to upgrade those units by painting everything white, put down grey vinyl flooring, and rent them back to the community at above-market rates.

Just because I would be settling in Albany I wouldn’t want to give up my young socialite activity. Are there good bars and restaurants where I could get my regular pacific oysters, figs, cab sav, etc? Don’t tell me this the kind of town that fries their fish.

I Hate the Antichrist

I hate the antichrist. Whether the government has anything to do with it. I admit that I am an idiot of the bible. I am mislead and confused about the bible, I have nothing else to say about the bible. I am Christian and I am schizophrenic. I live in the 518 area.

Complaining about the r/Albany Complainers Complaining about the Complainers Complaining Locals

Can the mods please consider making a thread just for complaining about complainers complaining about complaining about complaining about locals? The offending parties are absolutely in the sub and do care. We get it, many redditors complain about redditors complaining about locals. The complaints aren’t great. That shouldn’t mean we should congest this sub with these low effort and pointless complaints.

Vibe check at the Urgent Care

So I was at an urgent care recently and I noticed a lot of you don't bother to put on cute outfits or check your skin moisture levle before you leave the house. Every one looked like they were about to be vomit, or had recently vomited. Everyones ruddy noses and chappped lips were really sad to see, for me personally. Could you all bother to put in a little more effort before you attempt to get medical care? Maybe some consealer for that rash?
