Dedicated to the man, the myth, the legend Rurouni Kenshin. This is the story of a wanderer named Himura Kenshin, formerly known as the assassin "Hitokiri Battōsai" (Battōsai the Manslayer). After participating in the Bakumatsu war, Kenshin wanders the countryside of Japan offering protection and aid to those in need as atonement for the murders he once committed as an assassin.

!In the end of series/yahiko's sakabatou, kenshin's hair is short, but in hokkaido arc the hair is long again, and there is no time skip between the end of series and hokkaido arc that justifies this.!<
I can’t seem to find any of the art contributions other mangaka made for the 30th anniversary exhibition. Photographing them isn’t necessarily allowed but several other manga exhibits with theme limitations have people sneaking photos regardless so I’m wondering if there’s any floating around?
I know Togashi and Araki drew Kenshin and Sorachi drew Saito but that’s it really.
I know that you're never the only one in anything so I wanted to avoid putting that particular in the title.
But yeah, that's pretty much what I'm asking. Because I've noticed particularly for our most recent episodes that the soundtrack has always come up for comparison. And it's just hit me that not only have I never mentioned it in episode discussions but I realized that when I try to recall music from memory for certain scenes, my mind comes up completely blank.
So yeah, I'm just curious. Part of me wonders if that also affects my ratings. Do those of you who did pay more attention think you'd be less critical if you weren't so in tune with the OST?
And bonus: Are there other anime that you think you might have paid more attention to regarding the soundtrack in comparison?
I watched the original (english dub) on my local cable channel (AXN) back in the late 90s, early 00s. Was this a localized english dub by AXN for the Asian region? I compared it to the North American dub and the NA was so horrible with the renaming and pronunciation that I know that was not the one I watched before. Any info is greatly appreciated. The preview for episode 10 shows they will adapt a one shot chapter that shows Kenshin's first contact with a sakabatou. Tbh I never knew this existed until now.
So it really seems this season will be filled with extra material in order to reach the 23 episode mark. Apart from this one shot I mentioned, they will likely adapt the Jupongatana backstory in this season. On top of that, they will drag as much as they can in order to make the leaving to mt hiei the last scene of this season.
They will probably continue with a 12 episode season that concludes Kyoto Arc.
Then, in between I can see they readapting the Voyage to the Moon arc since its canon . Honestly it would be a nice break in between arcs, however I know that the transition between kyoto arc and jinchuu arc is so smooth in the manga that I think placing the kaishu katsu arc in between will only do harm storytelling wise.
Finally after Jinchuu I can totally see them adapting Yahiko's sakabatou and the extra Kenshin Kaden epilogue. On a side note, it would be awesome if they adapted the shimabars arc since it's semi-canon (yeah it's a stretch)

Both starts to fall in love with each other during Sano’s medical treatment and his determined will to retrieve back Sayo’s medallion, was fucking ruined by that officer with a single gunshot. Wish there are more stuffs to explore their relationships to make their story less gut wrenching. Even a goodbye kiss is suffice imo.
I've just recently become aware of the new adaptation, got plunged back into the fandom and infected my kid as well. No regrets whatsoever. Anyway, I'm going to do a movies rewatch soon, and I'm wondering whether anyone would be interested if I posted a reactions thread and some comments (most badass flex of Kenshin's prowess, funniest 'oro' moment, best Sano face, best/worst adaptation choice)? It might liven up the sub and get some conversations going, if nothing else.
Let me know if anyone would be interested in this while we wait for the next episode :).
I'm looking to buy the BangZoom/Media Blasters box set but I can't tell which english dub I would be buying and I definitely don't want the Sony dub. So how can I tell? Any suggestions on where to buy?
Hey guys, I have a question: If Kenshin (Battousai Kenshin) were to become a Demon Slayer, how far do you think he would make it? If you say he'd be Hashira level, where do you think he would rank among the 9 Hashira? What would his Breathing Style be? And what do you think his opinions of the other Hashira would be?
Thank you to anyone who answers my question, because my family and I have been arguing about this for almost an hour.
I originally read the manga years ago and then watched the '96 anime and really enjoyed most aspects of it, the shots and art-style in particular are great and though the new anime doesn't look quite as nice; the fact that it adapts the manga more faithfully, especially the more despicable and horrible aspects of the story make it a much better adaptation to me personally in the end. I also feel that the significantly lower ratings on sites like imdb or myanimelist are likely due in no small part to the author's extremely controversial actions, I'm kinda surprised it even got a new adaptation in the first place. To the points that they overlap I think I definitely prefer this version overall though it remains to be seen for the kyoto arc, anyone else feel this way?

I’m rereading the manga as an adult and realizing my opinions on some characters have shifted. When I was younger, I didn’t like Saitou much. He came across as ruthless, cold-hearted, and—let’s be honest—a bit of a j*rk, lol. But now I wonder if the author intended for him to be someone who does have feelings but buries them deeply to avoid showing any "weakness". A few examples come to mind:
During Sano vs. Anji: Kenshin observed that Saitou was worried about Sano because Saitou offered to take his place, even saying Kenshin should step in to save Sano from dying. Granted, he framed it mockingly, as if Sano was too weak to survive, and he claimed it was only to avoid lowering Kenshin’s morale. But was there perhaps a small part of Saitou that genuinely cared about Sano’s safety?
During Saitou vs. Usui: Usui accused Saitou of wanting revenge for the 50 policemen Usui had killed, suggesting Saitou had feelings after all. Saitou denied it, of course, but was he masking genuine anger or grief beneath his cold exterior?
When Eiji was about to kill Senkaku: Saitou stopped Eiji and told him not to add to his labour. The sentiment was similar to Kenshin’s, though Kenshin approached it far more gently. What’s interesting is that Saitou was the one who took Eiji under his wing, despite his gruff words about Eiji’s brother being “a fool” for not waiting for him before charging (which led to his death). Could this be another case of Saitou hiding a kind-hearted action behind harsh words?
During Kenshin vs. Enishi outside the dojo: Saitou noticed Enishi glaring crazily at Kaoru and told her to run. While he framed it with his usual bluntness—saying he wouldn’t help her if Enishi attacked—he stayed close to her, leading Sano or Megumi to comment about what the two of them were doing in the back. It makes me wonder: would he have stepped in to protect her if it came to that?
So, what do you think? Is Saitou someone who hides his true feelings behind sarcasm and harshness, or is he genuinely cold and unfeeling? And on a broader note, do you like or dislike him as a character?
EDIT: I forgot to add that he's now my favourite character in RK 😁.
I've been asking this on the internet since 2009 I think lmao Anyone has the Kimi wa dare wo mamotte iru version played with just the classical guitar? It's not the flute and acoustic guitar version. It's a version that played in the first episode and in some other episodes of Tokyo Arc of the 1996 anime. It's not on the 1996 OST CD. I've asked this in the past in this sub but now there are more people here due to the remake so maybe I get luckier this time.
There were 4 hitokiri: Kawakami Gensai, Kirino Toshiaki, Tanaka Shinbei, and Okada Izō.
why the author pick kawakami gensai as the model for the mc? is it because he's more skilled than the other 3? im just curious...
edit: researching abit more, i cant be sure to say if gensai really is more skilled than the other 3, just that he's skilled enough to assassinate someone in a broad daylight but then again all 4 are skilled enough in assassination
and if talking about who kill more, then tanaka shinbei killed far more than the other 3, an actual stone cold killer who's got labeled as "the captain of assassins"
and if talking about who's more famous then its okada izo, also he's friend with another famous person which is sakamoto ryoma, and izo is in many fiction media like games/anime/etc
and kirino, i dont find any interesting feats about him
I think that’s how you spell batosai
Its kinda crazy that the best animated fight for the remake is still the Jin-e vs Kenshin fight. When I first watched that episode I got chills. I even go back to watch that fight from time to time. That was more than 24 episodes ago… till now no fight scene has been animated at that level. What happened to the animators where are they?? 😫
So i was matching events of s2 of remake version with manga and i feel like the anime is too slow to complete the kyoto arc in 23 episode . I dont know what is in manga after episode 8 of s2 , but i think either it has a lot of fights so that s2 will cover whole arc or s2 will end with some ot kyoto arc events unfinished just like s1 where it covers almost all events , bit remaining events was covered in first few episodes of s2
I am enjoying the remake but this is probably the best sword fight in anime-dom! It stands the test of time decades after it was first aired!!
