Hi guys! I’m designing a key holder for my final project in school, do you guys have any input / ideas? It’s made out of wood. Please ignore the metal ring :) any ideas on how i could design it better/ make the keys not fall out?
I was impacted in late 2023 and took some time off before resuming my job search in January 2024. Since then, I joined a pre-funded startup for a mid this year for few months before transitioning to contract work as a product designer while actively looking for full-time roles.
With 10+ years of design experience and 5+ years managing teams, I’ve aggressively applied to over 100 jobs in the past two weeks, receiving 5 rejections (personalized resumes)
I’ve heard the product management market is particularly BRUTAL—how are things shaping up in design?
Also, my portfolio currently features 2 case studies, with a third one in progress.
Hey everyone, I really need some advice. just landed my first job as a product designer at a small startup with around 80-90 people. I was super excited at first, but it’s been...rough.
When I joined, my senior manager said my role would be to work on product design, focusing on user flows—kind of like what you’d see in apps like Swiggy or Google Maps. But, honestly, things have been all over the place since then.
For one, my team lead is a graphic designer who turned to UI but doesn’t have much understanding of UX or product design, so I’m basically on my own whenever I have questions. And he’s...let’s just say he’s more interested in getting attention than helping me out. incident, "once he said to me user testing is a waste of time, i just need to believe in my work, and dont need to seek others opinions and experience".
Then there’s the senior manager, who’s given me mixed messages and very unclear job role. First, he said I’d be working on improving user flows. Later, he told me to “act like a product manager” and treat each product (there are over 10!) as my own “baby.” It’s honestly overwhelming, especially as a fresh grad.
Today was the breaking point—he blamed me for visual issues in an app even though I flagged these months ago. I’m just lost on what’s expected of me and feel like I’m sinking without any real support.
Is this normal in small companies, or am I in over my head? How do I handle this? Any advice would be amazing. Thank you so much!
As the title says, Is this group for Physical Product designers or UX/UI?
My company often asks this question during hiring (and I’m sure many others do too): About 95% of the answers are Apple… What’s yours, that’s a bit less obvious?

Hi guys, so I'm working on a product, and during my research, I discovered a lot of apps have a login wall, take Netflix for example.
Wouldn't it be better to allow users go through your product and see what's going on, before asking them to sign up when they do desire to use your service? Like e-commerce websites do?
I mean what do you guys prefer?

As the title suggests, I’m looking for a supplier of large quantities of wholesale cork in sheet format for an ongoing project. Any leads very much appreciated 🙏 Edit to say it’s UK based and so far we’ve come up against issues regarding supply with Cork 24
Lets say for argument sake that someone is going to design and manufacturer a pepper shaker.
and the pepper shaker that they are designing is going to be manufactured out of plastic and injection moulded.
Now injection molds are expensive. a cheap aluminium one can cost $3,000. an expensive steel one can cost $20,000.
So now my question is:
Do you design your product trying to restrict the number of molds required to a minimum or do you design your product to be the best it can be, irregardless of how many molds it will require?

Very nice designed retro elevator
Hi folks, I'm a design professional who has worked at top companies and I've worked for a pretty long time. I am finding myself more and more impatient working with incompetent general leadership and with poor product managers or product leaders. I work in an it security company that does not value or respect ux research and product design and I keep losing my cool. I am watching people who know nothing tank our company as we go through several rounds of layoffs and no one seems to care or listen to data driven insights. I'm not proposing crazy ideas, I'm proposing viable and easy to build solutions. My product org never has a real roadmap and tries to play games with engineering and we never know what the priorities are. I'm trying to manage upwards and I've gone to execute leaders to express the process and talent issues and I just keep losing my cool.
Is it time I change my career? Should I just go into product so that I can defeat the very stupidy that sets me off? Is it time for me to say bye to design? What should I do? I feel very frustrated watching my team get treated like shit and like glorified graphic designers. I feel like we have no authority or influence on a sinking ship.
Hi! I'm 27 and only went to trade school fo audiovisuals and then video game design, workig freelance as a 3D Artist finding work as become harder and harder and i have been getting rejected from jobs in my country for the fact that i do not have a bachelors (a lot of companies run on european funds and it is a requirement to have a bachelors regardless of experience), for the last 3 years i discovered a passion for designing and modelling figures, props, replicas and scale models, mkaing my own projects printing, making molds, painting and producing my own deisigns and other peoples concept art too.
Since then ive decided that is what i want to follow in my life, but i also want to study, a very good university close to where i live has a great product and industrial design but which would be more appropiate to follow this career path ? most of what i see in product design seems to be ui/ux in software.
Any opinions and help is appreciated, i am also looking to know about other peoples experience to learn the do's and dont's if there are any.
I'm looking to start a microbrand watch company, more as an interest than making a profitable business.
Can anyone recommend a good online course (preferably free/low cost) I could go on that would teach me the basics of product design from concept, design, prototyping etc
Very nice designed early 90's elevator
A few months ago, I created a platform where everyone can provide feedback on submitters' work. It’s not limited to products, but most submissions have been digital products.
If you're interested in giving or receiving feedback, please check it out. This is a crowdsourcing model designed to help each other.
Example below.
How should I model something like this?
Hello! I'm trying to start posting on LinkedIn to get engagement and maybe start having recruiters notice me. This is grindy and one more method but we do what we can right?
I've posted asking for designers that got their first job in the last year, how they'd do it. If you're one of them, please be so kind to comment on that post here! Thank you 😁
If this isn't accepted please delete the post mods!
Looking for some advice as a solo designer for 7 years at the same company without a lot of exposure to other viewpoints.
My job has always been a blend of UX and PM responsibilities. I do design: mocks, prototypes, etc. and also PM stuff: product strategy, roadmaps, feature definition, prioritization, lots of collaboration with various stakeholders.
My company has a very technical B2B product which hasn't required a high level of visual design. My craft is ok, but not nearly as eye catching as most portfolios I see. I've tried to lean into the usability, research, strategy side of things in how I present myself in job applications, but I worry I'm being passed over for people with better visuals.
Is there a good strategy to target roles in product design that emphasize a research, analytical, and problem solving approach to design over visuals? Or maybe roles that blend PM and PD responsibilities?
I have a ton of great experience and achievements to list on my resume, but since I've done this hybrid role for so long I'm concerned it's held me back from fully becoming either. I love what I do now, but having trouble figuring out the next career step.
