So I have a hollow body harley benton it's pretty nice I have some 10-60 strings on there and I play metal on it. I also have to note that I don't have feedback from the hollow body. Anyway my question is should I buy a guitar for metal ? If yes what do you guys recommend?
Been working on this for a little while. Just something I made up. All feedback and any ideas on how to improve it are welcome!
Say I plan on using a zoom g3n/g1x four. This thing will shape the audio as is. So how do I ensure the amp isn’t messing up the sound by applying its own stuff on top?
I am talking about getting the type of tone I hear through a headphone hooked up to zoom when I have the zoom hooked up to an amp.
So yea, i want to play metal and have absouloutly no experience, will this work??
Also any tips regarding anything is much appreciated!
Thanks a lot!
Hi, All! I have recently gotten back into playing electric guitar after a long-term (and admittedly ongoing) affair with my acoustic. For the last few months, I've been playing in a prog rock/metal band, and I've also been writing and recording death metal songs with another friend. As I've gotten into the routine of playing daily, I've been thinking about how to upgrade my setup on a budget. I'm planning eventually to buy a seven string, but this will require saving up for a bit. So, for now, I want to work with the Squier Strat I've had since I was 12 the best I can.
I've recently made what I imagine is the most important modification: I installed a hotrail pickup in the bridge position. This has made a huge difference in tone, and I'm super happy with the decision.
I've also talked with my friend who did the pickup install for me about getting a rubber nut and rubber springs/screws (I can't remember which, or if it's both) for the bridge. I've put on a cheap (but surprisingly accurate) drop tuner, since my band frequently switches between E standard and drop D tunings. Not exactly a mod, but I'm also planning to purchase a pick holder that will go on the strings after the nut—like many of us, I constantly lose picks.
Additionally, I've been experimenting with different picks, and I've found Dunlop jazz threes to be the best for me. I'm also planning to purchase a few different sets of strings this evening to experiment with and find what I like best.
Anyways, my point is that I'm thinking about a lot of things that can help me get exactly what I want out of playing my cheap, but very reliable guitar, and I would love any and all advice anyone can offer here. Perhaps some of this will make little difference, but my theory is that a lot of little changes can add up to a pretty big difference. Or, if it seems like I'm overthinking things, I'll just say that I'm also getting into all this stuff as its own hobby outside of playing, so I'm really just trying to have some fun at the end of the day.
For what it's worth, I'm playing through a Fender Mustang LT25 for home playing/practice, and a Marshall AVT 150H with the band. (If anyone is in the market for a practice amp, I highly recommend the Mustang for its versatility and affordability.) One of my bandmates had hauled the latter to our rehearsal space and then promptly purchased a new amplifier for himself—so he's been kind enough to allow me to use it. I've tried to be as detailed as possible in this post, but if anyone has questions, I will answer them to the best of my ability.
Thanks to anyone who reads this post and/or offers advice—hope y'all have a great day and get a chance to play some metal guitar at some point!
Ok so I was going to swap out my scrapped old double locking trem from my ibanez RG450DX, but have come to the realization that the brass block is too big for the guitar. I will likely have to pay a shipping fee to return it and I was wondering if anyone has any solutions. Would a Floyd Rose fat brass block fit in place of the gotoh one if I were to keep it and remove the block?
Hey, i’m a bass player and i really want that darkglass sound like Knocked loose or Kublai Khan. I have a jackson 5 string that i love and i want to find the sound that they get. that sub and top end is so punchy. i know that knocked loose’s bass player plays a quad cortex after he switched from kemper. Kublai Khan’s bass player hasn’t really done a gear/rig rundown anywhere. any recommendations would be awesome, thanks for taking time out of your day to read this!
Hey everyone,
A buddy of mine has been asking me forever to play live shows with him, and I finally said yes. The problem? I’m strictly a bedroom player….I’ve never played live and my setup reflects that.
Right now, I own:
- Valeton GP 200
- Neural DSP Plugins
- Spark 40
I need a small live rig that can handle high-gain rhythm and clean tones, but I don’t know where to start. Can I build off of what I already have, or should I be looking at something else? I don’t have an amp beyond the Spark amp, and I’ve only ever used my Valeton and Neural DSP through headphones.
Would love any advice on how to make this work for small live gigs! Thanks in advance.
Hello. I am wondering if ita possible to wire a humbucler in the birdge of a custom made for metal Jazzmaster style guitar. Also I dont really understand what parts i nees to buy to build this. Thanks a lot for answering i'm still a rookie at wiring.
Played with my LTD Viper 400B
Hey everyone! Im a college student and I've moved from using a big loud tube amp back home to an amp modeling set up in my dorm and I am looking to get a speaker to use for jamming only. I will not be recording, but something loud enough to jam with yet portable enough to move around would be great. Also, the cheaper the better. Im not picky at all and I am looking for something just good enough to work. Thanks yall!
So long story short, im getting back into guitar after 7 years (i sold my guitar and amp to help pay for my wedding and my brand new Jackson is coming this week). I keep seeing adds for STLTones and having access to all these amps and such. So i just have a couple questions.
1: is it relatively easy to use, and get started
2: what Chords, equpiment do i need to use it?
I want some strings i play heavy rock/metal like metallica, acdc also a bit of chilli peppers and led zeppelin and thin lizzy so i dont know what strings to get a friend of mine said ernie ball super slinkys but i have no idea what different string gauges do
Short version: Schecter SVSS vs LTD TE-1000 (new)?
I want to add a more "metal" HH guitar to my arsenal, but I'm not a thrash shredder. I play more doomy, but a bit faster and chuggy than most doom (but still walls of fuzz and BBD delay pedal feedback noise). This guitar will live at C or C# standard and drop-B.
Current roster is:
I sort of hate this last guitar, and have toyed with making it a project build base. On the other hand, because it is held in lowest esteem I play it more because I'm not worried about damaging it.
The Espada can do it, but it stays at D standard, I want something tuned lower while still keeping that where it is. The Descent is its own thing and I want to leave it as it is in B standard. I have a preference for passive humbuckers. I want a hardtail, which makes this harder. I know coil splitting isn't a substitute for a strat style single coil, but I find the sound useful in the guitar I have that can do it, so I like the feature.
I've looked at:
I can't play any of the top three locally. It's a 4+ hour drive and none of the stores in that range have even two of these (The LTD is too new, anyway). I'd prefer not to order guitars intending to send one or more back. I'm not seeing an immediate reason to keep both the Schecter and the LTD.
I think I'm stuck on 25.5" scale length, hardtail, and passive, splittable pickups, but something else that hits these notes and has a similar look would be something I consider.
https://youtu.be/VgWU-h-4Pr8 This is my compo of the week-end. I don't manage to make good transitions between the different loops (drum fills and guitar riffs)... What would you advise ? I'm a single player and I work with a looper + beatbuddy. Thank you !
There are so many guitars for people to choose from, and everyone has their own personal taste, so I wouldn’t even start to try a blanket suggestion there, but this is definitely what I’d recommend to actually start playing and getting the sound you’d like to produce. This is everything I use, including to actually record videos of me playing. I use the tonebridge app, which makes it super easy to emulate pretty much anything you want to play, just by searching the band or song. Irig2 for the interface, and an inexpensive pitch shifter since both of my guitars are tuned so low. A decent set of studio headphones is also a must. I have YouTube premium, so I usually find guitar covers on there to play along with, and you can also adjust the playback speed to learn harder stuff all while tonebridge is still running in the background. To record videos, I just open the photo app, and screen record with YouTube and tonebridge running in the background. Hope that helps anyone just starting out.
Playing some stuff while I wait for paint to dry. Work has this old DSL40 so I had a little jam inbetween coats of paint. The DSL is so loose sounding compared to what I’m used to so it was great exercise trying to keep it sounding tight.
Is a 25.5 Scale Length Schecter ok for Drop A# tuning? I mostly want to play Motionless in White which is typically A#, but a couple are G# and G. I also like I prevail which goes up to Drop C. It looks like most everything I play will be in that range.
Guitar Schecter C1 Platinum, unless I need a Baritone.
Please tell the song title. A YouTube link would be even better! 🙏
Hi guys, hope y'all are doing well. I have a battle of bands coming up in 2 weeks, we're doing blackbird I need some help making a patch that sounds similar to Myles' tone (heavy & lead) and Tremonti's tone (intro and the interlude solo), when they played live at the Royal Albert Hall, on this zoom g1on amp modler that i borrowed from a friend. I'm using my esp ltd ec-1000 seymour duncan (running d'addario exl110 10-46) Not connecting the amp modler to an amp, direct output to stage monitors. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance 🤘🏿
Hey everyone, I’m looking to start playing metal core in drop b with a 6 string and was just curious what brand and gauge strings everyone is using lately? I was thinking of going with either a 12-56 or 11-56 not sure on a brand yet. Any input or help would be appreciated! Thanks!
