thrash guitar suggestions for a time-limited new mom!

hey yall! i’m an elder millennial and intermediate guitarist and i realize i never really played any thrash before. i have a mostly punk and (modern and death) metal guitar background mostly.

im comfortable playing along with a metronomes for accuracy sake during practice, but SUPER fast is what i want to learn, and especially as multiple strings/notes is out of reach for me right now (like fast soloing i can’t do). i’ve been rhythm player for 20 years.

i have a newborn that i am feeding from my body which means i spend an incredible amount of time under her nurturing my new lil baby so my free time is very limited!

i wanted to ask the group if you can recommend some good songs and/or skills to develop and practice to learn on the more intro thrash level as i slowly start to build my skills and ear for this style in particular.

my goal for the rest of the year would be able to play something like Kill ‘Em All from front to back (maybe without the solos for now 😅)

my second goal would be to create some original crossover type songs, eventually playing together with some other local folks.

thanks for all the help :)

Is it even possible to get the Hatred for Mankind tone with plugins?

I know they used some custom amps on that album, and the savageness also got a lot to do with the production. But how close could plugins get to stimulate that tone? I tried a few times but never managed to get an even similar sound, so I’d like to know you guys’ attempts if you ever tried.

Fuzzy/muddy sounding guitar through reaper

So I've had a problem where my guitar recordings sound way too fuzzy/muddy sounding, I am not getting any clipping digitally nor through my interface, does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Here's a short clip

I use Archetype Gojira through reaper and my interface is a scarlett solo 3rd gen, my guitar is an ibanez grgr120ex

Any good BC Rich Beast Copies out there?

Title says it all. I really dig the Beast but I feel my options are pretty limited in terms of finding a wide variety of them on the market. I was wondering if anyone here knew of any decent copies of the shape or had other resources. Thanks!

How tf is this done ?

Hey guys, casual metal guitarist, but long time player (20+ years) Never managed to crack metal guitar, especially sweep picking (I never use a pick) Annnnnny way, how does IBTS on the below link make that polyphonic (is the only way I can describe it) effect between 5 seconds and 11 seconds ? Pitch shift ? If so, which one ?

Experience between Schecter, Jackson, Ibanez (smaller hands)

I've been playing for a few years very casually (just learning tabs and songs from early metalcore) but have been getting into more fundamentals and a consistent training routine (standard tuning, actual drills not just noodling and learning songs, etc).

I have an Omen 6 w/ passive pickups tuned to drop C and an Ibanez RG421 170 I use as a beater for standard tuning and practice (both were used for <$200 on FB/Craigslist)

I notice that the schecter neck makes my hand cramp a little more and it's harder to hit certain chords without muting strings. My hands are relatively small for guitar players (19cm x 10cm - height x width). My fingers are also fat and have swelling constantly from bjj.

I feel much more comfortable on the Ibanez neck and am looking at an RG3EXFM1 to replace the schecter - has anyone with similar hand size had a similar experience with ibanez vs schecter and how would Jackson or LTD fit in with these neck profiles? I've read a bit about LTD/ESP and it seems their profiles are more like the schecter - planning on hitting the music shop this week/weekend to feel some other necks before I drop $275 on the ibanez.

Any tips on good theory video for producing metal?

Maybe this isn't the sub meant for this question....But anyways, I have recently gotten into producing metal songs for my band. The problem is however that I lack every single aspect of music theory - I know the notes on the fretboard but nothing else... I've heard that it really helps. Would anyone be so kind to give me advice on where to start and if there might be some video (a plus if it involves metal and not just chords)? I have watched this one but mostly the beginning was interesting to me. I need it all!

Death metal recordings

I have a cheap Jackson , pickups sound bad which no sharp attack. The problem with upgrading to EMGs is that I don't plan on using this guitar (only 22 frets +tuners + bridge probs). I've planned a new premium guitar for 2026.

I plan on recording some Death metal style songs for local shows(for backing too). Will a good plugin solve this loose , flubby low end , with no punch ? (I know the OD trick).

Also on the subject , will the minifuse 2 be a good interface ? I've been using the Irig and the focusrite is not good for metal i heard.

All suggestions appreciated. T.I.A.

Pick Recommendations

Hey everybody, I was wondering what picks you can recommend to me. I want to try something new than the 1mm Dunlops that I usually play. I'm looking for something flexible enough for rhythm playing but also stiff enough to be able to do leads comfortably, Wouldn't mind trying something thicker.

Weird harmonics in tab

What does this artifical harmonic mean? Which fret is it? The quality doesn't get any better and zooming in changes nothing....

is there a way to get the .VST3 plugin tuners to be more accurate and not jump up and down?

The tuners don't act normal? They jump up and down and take long to settle on the note? Is this normal or is there a tuner that doesn't do this? Thanks!
