Turning off heater in winter

Hi there.. I moved to Canada recently so a newbie to winter as you will see in my question haha

I read on different websites that the heater should not be turned off during winter to prevent pipes from freezing. I wonder if that literally means I have to leave my heater working for the next few long months without rest? or if that's an advice for other colder cities.

If it makes a difference, I live in a town house with separate apartments and the heater is electric.

Thanks for helping a newbie :)

Fairview Park Mall Closed This Evening?

Went to the mall earlier today around 5:30 and all the stores inside the mall were closed or closing near the food court, and Mark's had a sign up saying 'Closed for the rest of the day due to unforseen circumstances'. Anyone know what was up?

municipality enforcement going house to house on my street

As the title implies bylaw or what I assume was bylaw are knocking on all the doors on my street. At first I thought it was cause of my driveway wasn't shovelled yet but my sidewalk is so doesn't make sense. Anyone know what's going on?

Tire shop

I know after yesterday’s storm, today is probably the worst day of the year to get new tires put on. I’m a dumbass and popped two tires this weekend, so I’d like to buy new ones and get them put on asap. Anyone know of shops that could help within the next day or two? I’ve called a few with no luck.

Levitating Leaf stem

This leaf stem appeared to be levitating outside a window. Upon closer look it was attached to one tiny thread of a spider's web...very clever mother nature, very clever.

Jobs and Tattoos

Hello,

I'm just looking towards the future and don't want to limit myself. I have a couple tattoos right now that can be easily covered, however am considering getting more on my arm down to my wrist.

Here's my question :

What's your line of work, and what's their tattoo policy?

I work at a local college and they just say "no face tattoos".

Looking for support - Mental Health Crisis

I've called 9-9-8 and have calmed down, though I'm not sure what to do with myself now and don't want to cycle back into a point where I feel I need to make that call again. I'm desperately in need of some help to remain grounded, but don't have a social support network to reach out to. I want to cry and have someone hold my hand.

If someone could please offer some support, whether it be a distraction from what's overwhelming me or more immediate mental health services locally, that would be so helpful.

Thanks so much. I'll go to work and try to get some fresh air in the meantime.

Best Barber for Young Guy in KW?

I recently had a great experience at Glassbox in Toronto and am looking for something similar in the KW area.

Someone who knows how to properly blend/fade both hair and line up beards.

I am taking my G road test on Tuesday. I haven't gotten my winter tires changed yet. Would I be okay?

My winter tire appointment got delayed, and I see that the snow has gotten pretty bad today.

I have driven in the winters before, but always with winter tires. Now I am kind of nervous for my test. Any advice for me?

They are considering reducing services in order to soften the tax increase.

https://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/region-of-waterloo-considers-reducing-and-even-cutting-some-services-to-keep-tax-increase-down-1.7128513

Saw this article on CTV today and just shook my head. Why are all the options they give us (the people) to reduce costs, things were not willing to consider. I noticed there is no mention of cutting the pay of regional council. Downsizing and streamlining wasteful government spending is shockingly nowhere to be found.

Was driving on fairway road and saw this big smoke cloud. Turns out there was a fire and a lot of fire trucks at site.
