A vibrant community of 118,000 people, Guelph is ranked among the top ten places to live in Canada. The city is located in one of the strongest economic regions in the country - 100 kilometres west of Toronto, just east of Kitchener-Waterloo. Guelph is rich in culture, architecture, parks and riverside green spaces. In 2009 Guelph was also named one of the country's smartest communities, its safest city, and Canada's volunteer capital. - Guelph.ca

Hi everyone so i need to get my motor changed for the exhaust fan in my bathroom & my landlord is refusing to get it fixed because he says it is hell expensive. I just wanted to get an idea how “expensive” it is because the fan is extremely noisy & annoying. Thanks! Ps: my landlord’s very money minded & does not like to spend a penny as i have experienced so far in 2 years so maybe thats the reason.
Anyone know where a good spot to get skates sharpened in Guelph is?
My family and I are considering a move to Guelph. One thing I can’t figure out is how the public high schools work. The three I found online are all labeled as “vocational institutes” which I always thought meant a school that focuses children on skills for a specific job. Am I misunderstanding, or are there no public high schools that offer academic programs?
I get that the construction was done a few weeks ago so it may be unfamiliar to some. BUT they built a middle lane so you can use it to turn into the plazas (ie the library, shoppers).
There are bike lanes now so it became a one-lane street. Stop holding up traffic because you’re turning left to the library and not using the proper lane. FOCUS, Drivers! Be aware of signs!
Recently at the Shell station on Watson Parkway, I had to pay twice for my gas (in store). Supposedly the first debit transaction didn't go through in their system but was approved on the debit handheld. I didn't ask for a receipt as I thought all was good, and proceeded to leave. I was then chased down by the cashier and demanded to return and pay. I checked my online banking and saw the charge went through on my end. They didn't budge or acknowledge that I had the charge go through. I argued this point but they threatened to call the police if I didn't pay. I gave up after this nonesense and paid, getting the receipt this time. Has anyone ever had this happen?
Is Napa Gino auto pro any good?
I just wanted to share a compliment for a candle company with great products I discovered locally. Saakje and Elva Candle Co are creating hand made candles named after loved ones in their life with complex scents. They have an Instagram account, no website yet, but are going to be at a local market this Saturday. If you want to support local and buy a gift for someone this holiday I would recommend checking them out. Here’s an Instagram post about the market.
I've seen a Minute Key kiosk in Milton offers this service but wondered about somewhere locally
Thanks!
Y'all are great and polite! Beautiful places to walk; the arboretum especially. Food is delicious. Y'all say pasta like pAEsta. Haven't been held up at gunpoint yet! (I'm from southwest Detroit) So many basement apartments. Got a volvo mechanic named Saul! Still can't pronounce Edinburgh, not sure which one is correct. The Old Quebec St mall is liminally hypnotic. The boathouse has great flavors.
But the tap water could be better tho.
I gotta say, Timmy Hos is not the only great gift Canada given to the world because Guelph is truly something. Is there anything I should keep in mind about living here besides not driving like a jerk?
EDIT: also my first time at Harvey's, i was appalled that the United States didn't have these fine dining establishments
I'm looking for some decent pictures frames for Christmas gifts for my son's godparents and grandparents. I'm not too picky, other than I'd hope the frames say those words on them and they're not super religious.
I've checked Walmart, Michaels, and Homesense and while they all have a wide selection, they don't have what I'm looking for. There also aren't a ton of these (especially the godparents ones) on Amazon.
Any recommendations for where else I could check? I'd prefer to buy in person if possible, and to stay within Guelph.
TIA
Every time I visit this sub, there seems to be another post about how drivers in Guelph need to slow down. While speeding can indeed be an issue, I think there are many other driving habits that often create even more dangerous situations. Let me clarify upfront that I’m not excusing drivers who go 30 km/h or more over the speed limit or those who drive recklessly—this behavior is obviously unacceptable and dangerous, especially given the weather conditions we’ve had recently. However, I’d like to highlight some other unsafe driving habits I’ve noticed in Guelph that have nothing to do with speeding.
The speed limit is not just the maximum speed you’re allowed to drive—it’s also a guideline for the ideal speed you should be driving under normal conditions. Unless the roads are icy or visibility is poor, there’s no reason to drive significantly under the limit. If you feel more comfortable going 10 km/h below the limit, that’s fine—just stay in the right lane. Too often, I find myself stuck on Gordon, crawling along at 40 km/h because two drivers are side by side, both going way under the limit. It’s frustrating and unnecessary. Your preference to drive slowly shouldn’t dictate the speed of everyone behind you.
It seems like for some drivers in Guelph, the first reaction to nearly every situation is to hit the brakes. This habit creates unsafe situations for everyone. Here are a few examples:
The main point I want to make is this: While excessive speeding can be dangerous, someone driving 5–15 km/h over the limit (as long as they aren’t being reckless by weaving through traffic, running lights, or doing something extreme) is not the biggest problem we have on the road.
Are there any organizations or teams currently doing a bottle/beer can drive? We used to get flyers pretty frequently from kids in the neighbourhood, but I think they've aged out of their clubs or teams. I know we can just return them ourselves, but this was always just a little way we could give back, so I thought I'd check here first. We live near Kortright/Ironwood. TIA!
I was almost run over by someone running a red today. 10 mins later I saw a car cut off two fire trucks who had lights and sirens on… almost t-boned by a blinking screaming vehicle. It’s like mad max out there. Slow the fuck down.
The lady at the front asked me how many people I have in my car and I ended up paying $25.50 and only read later it’s $8.50 per vehicle
Which is correct? It was Sunday (today)
My father in law is so hard to buy for and I don’t want to keep getting him things as they are planning on downsizing soon.
Anyone have any good activity ideas we could do with him either in Guelph or surrounding area?
Hi!
My friends and I (teen group) are looking to hang out this winter break and we came up with Ice Skating. A few of us will be skating for the first time (myself included) so im in search of somewhere to freely learn and flop around in the process without disturbing families and people who already know what they’re doing lol.
Pricing and location is much appreciated!<3
Has anyone been to a show at Silence Sounds on Sussex St?
There’s a Christmas show I want to see but not sure what this venue is like.
Thanks!
Probably a long shot here…my son lost his Mario Cart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch yesterday at the MacDonald’s on Stone Rd yesterday. We checked with the staff and no one has turned it in yet. Throwing it to the Reddit community in case someone may have picked up :). Thx!
Does anyone live nearby and notice this smell outside today? This is the second time this has happened in 2 months or so. The first time it was so toxic smelling that I had to rush from my car to the house without breathing in. Anyone have any idea what is causing this smell in the air?
Starting back up in January!!

Tim hortons doesn’t care about the service and quality anymore, you ask for cream they put milk and I guess all that matters to them is money. They keep making mistake every single time. Who agree with me?
For the first time in years, my wife and I will be staying in Guelph for the holidays rather than travelling to visit family. We are looking forward to it but would like to find some fun Christmas themed things to do! Anything within an hour’s drive is fair game. Suggestions are much appreciated!
