About to get a bit real and need some advice. For anyone who’s finished Laurier’s econ and accounting program, what do you do now? Did you get your CPA, what job are you in, and how’s the pay and work-life balance? I’m in second year, grades are average, and I didn’t get into co-op. Sometimes I regret not going to Western or McMaster to follow a law career path, but that seemed too risky, and now with my gpa Canadas programs are too competitive for law school. I really want to stick with this path and make it work, but my main concern is whether it will be worth it in the end or if I’m just doing it all for nothing. I just want good pay with work-life balance—I know CPA can be very stressful and can really impact that.

I’ve been putting in a lot of effort in this math-heavy ish program, even though I didn’t do well in high school math (but I’ve come this far). I sometimes wonder if I should have pursued something I’d enjoy more, like law, kinesiology, or psychology and potentially earned more. I’ve looked at healthcare careers, but it’s way too late for that since I didn’t take sciences in high school, and it’s also not much of a passion for me. But I know that if I’d chosen another path, I would’ve probably been thinking the same thing and wishing I had stuck with what I’m doing now. I do enjoy econ and accounting; I picked this path for a reason. I think a CPA and a degree in econ and accounting can lead to a ton of opportunities in business, even outside of accounting. I want a good salary to live comfortably, travel a bit, and have stability, security, and flexibility. But in this economy, who knows? I often feel overwhelmed, confused, and stressed, like I’m going through an existential crisis. I keep comparing myself to others who seem to be able to do everything and are in co-op and may be laughing at this post. I’ve also seen so much negativity online surrounding my career path, but people seem to have something to say about every career path. For those also in similar programs, what are your thoughts and future plans? I need some motivation but also no sugar-coating; If so want to hear the harsh reality.

i finished all my midterms and got my grades back and i always do bad on the multiple choice. as a bba student, i know im gonna be having many more exams with multiple choice so id like to master it now before its too late. does anyone have any advice on what i can do moving forward other than the elimination method? should i start studying differently? how so? I deferred my ec270 midterm which we had last week to next week, and I was wondering if those who just took it could give me some advice on what the exam looked like and what I can specifically go over to help me do well. It would be much appreciated, I’m pretty stressed about it.

I feel like for a 100 level course this is very heavy when it comes to the courseload. The lecture component is fine as long as you practice the questions but the labs are genuinely awful. What do you guys think?

Just so you know. The average was 60% for the midterm

I'm in Mac CS and this program is utter garbage. There are WAY too many mandatory courses throughout years 1-4 with the most horrible professors whose purpose is to make your life hell. The program has outdated courses and the students are just there for the profs to carry out their research experiments on. It's so difficult for absolutely no reason ??? I want to get through this degree and I actually like CS but there's not a day where I don't want to jump off the 10th floor bc of the academic stress. What do you mean I'm supposed to learn functional programming without any coding experience ??? The professor doesn't even teach the language, outright told us not to even ask him questions about it. We're supposed to learn the entire course through YouTube videos. Linear Algebra along with Calc 1 is HARD. We're doing Haskell, Java (last year it was ELM, another functional programming course???), C, Python, and discrete math.

I'm destined to fail my courses. I've looked at the other programs like Western, Queens, WLU, etc and their curriculum is much easier. Standardized curriculum across universities? Yeah right

How's the Milton campus for CS? Atp, any school after UW and UofT literally doesn't matter

I failed most of my midterms namely MA102, and MA123. Is there any way for the load to be shifted to my final, or am I just cooked. I did good in my labs and assignments up to date and hope to pass my finals. Is it over for me? Or do I still have a chance

I missed my cp213 midterm because I got nervous and started to throw up. I sent email to Zara Hamid. And she replied if I have evidence if I went to hospital. But unfortunately I couldn't go that day I was very sick to even walk. Should I drop cp213 before Nov 6th. Or still have chance to pase?

Has anyone here ever skipped a midterm and written a cumulative final instead? Aka. Final where the skipped midterm % grade and all the content is shifted to the final ?

This is my first halloweekend at Laurier and all my friends are going out on Friday night. I have a midterm on Saturday morning, will I be okay to write my midterm hungover/drunk?

Some people have said I could drink less on Friday, but that doesn't seem as fun and not really in the haloween spirit.
