is there still pretty fall foliage this week/weekend?
Didn’t think much of it when I got here two weeks ago. Then I saw the trees…and then I visited Buttermilk Falls…then walked around the shops. What a beautiful, amazing town. Glad I get to spend the next two weeks here before I ship off to basic training.
IC has (had?) a fairly renowned Steel band; I'm not sure if that's still a thing any more. I'm wondering if the college band still exists, if any local community-level bands exist, etc.
Heck, if there are pan-playing folks here I'd be interested in amateurly rehearsing on a somewhat regular schedule.
I was a music teacher for many years and ran elementary, middle, and high school pan bands, plus helped lead a college band when I was doing my M.A. I have plenty of arrangements of varying complexity squirreled away on a hard drive.
Reply here if you're interested and know how to play, or if you have info on the (maybe defunct?) IC band. I don't frequently log in so I tend to miss DMs, but I'll patrol this thread and see if anyone replies here.
It is on a bench on the Waterfront Trail, across from the Children's Garden.
The Southern Tier Independence Center (STIC) is hosting its annual Craft Show from 10 AM to 3 PM this Saturday, November 2^(nd), at 135 E. Frederick Street in Binghamton. Along with many small business craft/art/jewelry vendors, there will be food/refreshments for sale, raffle baskets, and a 50/50 raffle!
Raffle proceeds benefit STIC so that they can continue to help people with disabilities.
Free parking is available on Ely Street.
I had a bit of a small issue when early voting at the crash fire rescue place, I would be curious what people think:
They asked for my name (as advertised) and my wife for her name (different person right next to me), then heard our accent when talking and asked my wife for ID and myself for my address (no ask of ID). I told them I will sign the screen like always (hint hint), after I did, I told them 'that's as good as it gets with the thick pen' and the person gave me a hard time if I were sure that this is the best signature I could do....he then took a good minute to stare at the stored signature and declared it was 'close enough'.
My wife just showed ID to speed things along (and I would have had it with me just in case anyway), but I was annoyed and this never happened before.
I thought all they have a right to is a) ask name to find you in the voter roll; b) get your signature to compare with the database. No right or need to ask for ID ?
What happens if they think the signature is NOT the one on file (either real fraud attempt or just the fact that the shitty pen makes the signature look unrecognizable) - THEN having a right to ask for ID or decline your vote ?
Curious how this works, we signed up to volunteer next time. The mood was odd there, it used to be a cheery event and people were greeted and congratulated for voting (not for any particular vote mind you)...this time it was very muted and no talking whatsoever and kind of glum....is that just me ?
You are a cool person and we appreciate you. We hope you were able to "settle things" with your father when you disappeared into the night.
Faithfully yours, The Dothraki and Ravenclaw
P.S. Nice dragon. My wizard magic was no match for you.
Cornell, sure. What else? I’m mostly looking for places that aren’t food service and offer Aetna.
Could any current or former CTB employee tell me what’s in a liz lemonade? I miss them dearly and would like to recreate my own </3 ty!
The tavern at the commons (where kilpatricks was) has karaoke and their burger is mad good.

We are not from Ithaca and are in our thirties . My question is do people hang out in the commons on Halloween? Are there any activities such as music, bars, etc. What time Do the shops generally close?
Hi everyone, I’m relatively new to Ithaca so I don’t know where to look. Does anyone have any leads on where to find some local carpooling groups?
Alternatively, is anyone here going to Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving willing to take one more person? (I would pay you) Please help me avoiding spending Thanksgiving alone 🙏
Has anyone else in the South Side area been hearing the loud security alert the last week or so? It’s a voice saying “intrusion has been detected, you are being recorded” and it goes off constantly. Like all night. Please make it stop 😭
I don’t usually do this (okay never) but I was walking out of Walmart in Ithaca this morning after grabbing some last minute Halloween attire for a work thing, and as I was walking out I passed the most gorgeous blonde male wearing a hat and a sand colored almost military looking backpack? We looked back at each other like twice but coming across anyone I genuinely think is that beautiful is rare. Find me 😂 (and if you’re married or taken then I hope this boosts your ego and have a good one)
I know it probably sounds stupid and I shamelessly admit it because I not only have never voted I am not allowed to yet so I've never worried about it. In my country elections are popular you show up with your ID the day of the election and you vote and that's it.
Can someone explain to me like I am five, why do you have to register to vote? Aren't you automatically allowed as a voter once you turn 18? Why do I have to tell the country I am voting for something? And if I am registering for a particular party doesn't that make my vote not secret? If I am a registered Republican I can't vote democrat?
Drivers licenses are not voting documents here, like in other countries. But there's not like a voter document here, is there? You don't have like a government issued state ID to vote in elections?
100% honestly asking and admittedly very ignorant on the matter here. I just told someone "go vote" and they tell me "but I'm not registered" and I'm like what....so if you convince someone to vote last minute they can't? Sniff?
Fall creek aside. What time is reasonable to expect trick or treaters in this weather? Is it safe to assume no one will come at my door asking for candy once it's dark?
Any recs on local businesses? Previously I've always sent it out but have the urge to go local this time.
It's a MacBook Pro with some worn out usb ports and a dead microphone so maybe slightly harder to fix than a new battery or screen or something.
I'm old enough Baka used to be the answer but looks like they only do websites now. Thank you
Does anyone know if the upper falls are still open? I heard a rumor they were closing it soon.
Popped over to the crash/fire/rescue polling place this morning right as they opened. Was surprised to find it quite busy! Glad I went today and didn’t wait for official E-day.
Curious what others have found if they voted early?
Got myself a cool “I voted” cat sticker too.
Join the Ithaca High School Trash Team, a contingent of Zero Waste Ithaca, for a post-Halloween trash pickup!

Does anyone have recommendations for good piano movers in the Ithaca area? We are currently looking into A Team and Big Strong Back, but we are open to recommendations. Thank you!
I have to get some work done sooner rather than later. Any places that are good with squeezing you in?
Where can a guy watch the MLS playoffs in or near Ithaca? Apple TV with MLS pass is needed…. TIA!!!
Hi on Friday I lost my wedding and engagement ring somewhere around Uris hall or college town, please if you have seen any lost rings please let me know it's a plain golden band and a silver and golden engagement ring with red gemstones.
Anyone know where I could buy a large dry gourd locally for a Halloween craft project today or tomorrow? Unfortunately Gourdlandia is closed until Friday :(
I'm looking to hire someone to move a treadmill from my first to second floor. Are there movers you'd recommend or those you've had bad experiences with?
