Card payments at UK MCM Comic Con

Apologies if this isn't the right place, please redirect me if I'm lost!

A friend from overseas is coming to the UK to sell some of their work at the Comic Con next month and wants to accept card payments. However they are having difficulty as they don't have a UK bank account so can't get a Square reader for it. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution? I've not been able to find one but it must be a pretty common thing.

What do you spend money on besides food and artist allies?

I already thought about transportation, the hotel, parking, and the ticket prices...
Am I forgetting anything for my budget?
What things do you usually spend money on at cons?

C2E2 tips

Hello everyone. I am a lapsed con attendee, having not gone to any cons since like 2019 and only ever got as big as Wizard World St. Louis. I happen to be in Chicago with nothing to do this Friday, so I went ahead and bought a day pass to C2E2. I will be attending solo.

I was not able to get my badge ahead of the show and will be forced to line up for it. I was just wondering, is there best practice for this? Am I going to be stuck in line for two hours if I don't get there until noon, for example? Can I get in line early / is that recommended?

Also, as a general comment, is there anything about C2E2 that every attendee *must* do? Something that I'll be sad if I miss out on? Having attended some cons in my day I don't need to make it out for the cosplay contest or anything, I just don't want to look at reddit in a week and be mad at myself for missing out on a unique experience. Either way I know I'll still have fun just walking the booths!

SDCC: A Few Words About Airbnb

Now that the Hotel Lottery is almost done, we'll start getting a lot of people looking at Airbnb as alternate lodging. If you are planning on using Airbnb, or other house-sharing options, please be aware that there have been problems in the past. There are many stories of canceled reservations, fake listings, and last-minute cost hikes (some links to threads below). Be sure to really read all the fine print associated with your stay, especially your Host's cancellation policy. If something happens, Airbnb will be very helpful with refunds, but they can't help to get you a new place to stay.

I'm not saying that Airbnb is bad - most hosts are fine and gracious people - but the amount of money that can made during Con brings out some of the worst.

SDCC: A Few Tips for After the Hotel Sale

  • If you didn't get a room, clear your day on May 2nd for the Open Sale.
  • If you're trying to contact onPeak, they aren't always picking up the phone. Given all the issues with the Hotel Sale, their Customer Service is usually slammed. Give it a few days and try again.
  • If you got a room and need to make changes, don't try contacting your hotel directly - they can't help you. onPeak does not push any of the reservations to the hotels until a few weeks before the Con. So if you call your hotel now with a special request, they may politely say they're noting it, but nothing may actually happen.
  • If you got a room and need to change the days, you can do that after logging into your reservation on the onPeak site.
  • If you got a room and want to get some honest hotel reviews, the site I trust most is Trip Advisor: https://www.tripadvisor.com/
  • If you want to know how long it will take to get to the Convention Center by Shuttle Bus, here's last year's schedule, and it rarely changes year-to-year: https://sdccblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Shuttle-Schedule-Comic-Con-2023.pdf
  • If you want to trade your room for a different hotel, stay tuned, the Mods will be putting up a room trade thread.
  • If you are panicking and are ready to pay a crazy amount of money for a non-Con Block hotel, take a deep breath. At least wait until the 2nd and do the Open Sale.

Every year there have been onPeak rooms available all the way up to the first day of the Con. So don’t give up!

Experience with waiting for the free for all?

Hi! Got a hotel, and since it was for two rooms with two queens each, knew we’d probably have slim pickings (the Handlery which looks very nice but is a 30 minute shuttle to the Santa Fe depot). I’m wondering if anyone on here has any experience waiting for the aftermath to try and get a hotel when they free up. I can only assume there has to be some available as many people, like ourselves, were trying in groups. If you were someone who got a hotel when they open up to first come first serve, what were you able to get? Was there several options for hotels closer to the convention center? I’m not trying to be an ungrateful patron, it’s just that being close is extra important to us, just like im sure it is for many of you as well, because we go with our three little ones who love to go and cosplay so while me and my brother are lined up at 4am, it falls on my amazing wife to get them ready and get down to the convention center with them later in the morning so I hate that I’d have to have her get on the trolley by herself with the girls and then still have to switch at Santa Fe. We know that getting parking would be a solution but that’s a whole other lottery we have to wait for and get pulled for so I’m just trying to find out the best possible options for my family. Thank you for any help in trying to find out what kind of options are there after the declines get processed. Happy conning!

SDCC Hotel Reservations ANNOUNCEMENT: People who want to request rooms from anyone not keeping those reservations should try to TRADE RESERVATIONS NOW - read guidelines here:

  • Many people have extra reservations assigned to them that they will NOT USE. This happens when 2 or more people in a relationship or group receive multiple reservation notices from OnPeak and only want to keep one room.

  • There will be a large hotel room dump on May 2nd because of this. People currently have room reservations they will not keep.

  • But if anyone wants to turn over their extra room reservations to a person who is asking for a room, I am going to allow this exchange.

  • These arrangements between subredditors asking for help to obtain a reservation, and the subredditors who are releasing room reservations that they hold, ARE PRIVATE AGREEMENTS AND ARRANGEMENTS.

  • ALL exchanges are the responsibility of the individuals. r/comiccon, and the Moderators of r/comiccon are not held responsible for any hotel reservation arrangements made between subredditors. These hotel reservation exchanges are "unauthorized" by this sub, and this is not the official "Hotel Room Search and Trading Post" that will appear later.

  • Everyone can use this post to connect to one another. Or you can speak together in the Master Hotel Discussion Post.

  • There are ADVANTAGES to exchanging room reservations NOW before the deposits are placed with OnPeak, or before extra rooms are released back into the system. Good Luck to Everyone

  • This post is heavily moderated. ALL subreddit Rules will apply and must be followed at all times. Discussions and/or commenting violating subreddit Rules will be removed, and subredditors violating Rules could risk a pause or longer suspension of their account's participation in this sub. ALL Subreddit Rules and Rule 3 are currently being enforced.

working up to being a vendor for the first time at a con

Hello,

I'm a small artist and i'm currently applying and getting ready to be a vendor at Black hills Con. I'm working currently to build up inventory since I'm still a little under 2 months out. I plan on doing a wide variety of stuff from prints, pins, stickers, jewelry, and a few small wall hang tapestries. I'm also planning on drawing a coloring page so everyone who makes a purchase can color a sheet and enter it to win a larger prize. Does anyone have any tips for a first time vendor? I'm trying to make sure I am very prepped so I don't get taken by surprise my first day there. It's a estimated roughly 1,000 people so if anyone has any estimates on how much inventory to prep that would also be super helpful.

Comic Con outfit ideas

Hello, looking for ideas for a comic con outfit for this year. 20 yr old female, 5ft 9, with long red hair (will wear a wig tho). Last year I went as a gender swapped Peter B Parker, also considered Mac from its always sunny with the duster and ocular pat down glasses. Not sure, any ideas please help.

First time cosplaying…is it ok if my costume is shit?

I want to do a barbarian link or cotera cosplay, but I have zero experience with making a cosplay, props etc. I basically just bought different outfit pieces to make something that looks vaguely like the characters, but I know it’s shitty. I want to attend some panels on cosplay crafting while I’m at c2e2 for future reference, but if I show up in my own busted cosplays will ppl make fun of me? 😭

Shoutout to HouseCatSpeaks for being an amazing mod and contributor!

I want to shoutout to /u/Housecatspeaks for being a great contributor and moderator on this sub. He has been superbly helpful and amazing with his time, effort, and knowledge. His tireless effort to guide the community has definitely benefited me, to say the least. Without him, I would never have gotten a ticket to SDCC 2024, my 1st time. Thanks man. You’re the REAL MVP.

Canadian Tabling at Thought Bubble UK - Help?!

The UK has made their Visa process very complicated and confusing. There seems to be a number of exemptions for "non-visa" countries like mine, but also a bunch of contradicting exclusions.

Anyone make the trip recently and had a table as a non-UK resident?
What am I looking at or limited to?

Any advice?

This is my first comiccon I will be going to and I'm completely lost. Can I bring my own stuff to get signed or do you have to buy it at the con? Do they sell stuff that's signed and rare in there? I won't be able to get a whole lot done since I'm bringing my toddler with me so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Jewelry brand name WonderCon 2024

Hi! Does anyone remember the name of a jewelry brand in WonderCon 2024 that sold handmade jewelry from Japan and it was quite expensive. I remember one of the designs of a necklace had like green leaf petals strung together along with earrings I believe.

What time did you get into the hotel request?

Hello fellow conners! So like anyone else who entered the hotel lottery, I’m stressing and worried as hell. Just to try and give me a better or even worse sense of my chances, I’m just wanting to hear at about what time did you get into the form room? The websites states that everyone in the room will fill one out there’s no limit, and since they are just time stamped from the time you enter, I would imagine that they are opening up the forms to us at lightning fast speeds. I’m sure they just opened up the form for an attendee (or in waves), and since it would automatically be time stamped, they could just do that continuously non stop. I was in just before or at 9:03 and then my brother and wife both got in about the same time, around 9:10. I have NO clue how typical these times are and since they could hypothetically let us get to the form in seconds, I’m thinking getting in within the first 5 minutes isn’t necessarily a “for sure” thing to get one of our top 12. So my question to you all, what time did you get in?

Thank you all! Happy Conning!

1st time going to Comic Con I don't understand this Hotel stuff did I over pay for Early bird

1st time going to Comic Con I don't understand this Hotel thing that I am just reading about.

I mean I got my tickets (1st time) , I went to the website and got my rooms I think that same week. I think it was called EARLY BIRD SALE ONLY.

Hotel Confirmation Number:  Available approximately 1 week prior to the event for participating hotels.
Shuttle Service:  Shuttle service between the hotel and the event is provided.
Exclusive Promotions:
EARLY BIRD SALE ONLY

Did I miss out on closer hotel rooms and cheaper hotel rooms.

and now I am seeing this Hotel lottery ? I assume it for different hotels closer to the con. now that I am thinking as I write this .
