This is a subreddit specifically for people who cosplay and people looking to cosplay. Want to share the outfit you just made? Share it here! Want some advice on a costume? Ask here! Want to show some cool pics you took at the last convention you went to? Post them here! Want to spam professional cosplay photos you stole and put on your for-profit website? DON'T POST THEM HERE! I made this community because while the cosplay subreddit has some great questions and self posts, it's 90% spam of peoples' websites, which is a bit out of hand. So while the other subreddit is still great, I hope many of you will join me here!

Advice Posting Guidelines

One of the main goals of this subreddit is to provide people help and advice on cosplays they are working on. If you want to post asking for help on your cosplay, please follow these guidelines:

  1. Post a couple pictures of the character you want to cosplay that you will be working off of. Characters often have multiple outfits or designs and we need to know which one you will be working off of so we can better help you.
  2. Let us know your progress so far. If you already have a wig or the jacket or a prop, let us know! And post pictures! This way people won't go on a lot about items you have already finished and don't need help with.
  3. Let us know when and where you want to have your cosplay done for. If you have 2 weeks or 2 months to make a cosplay, this will make a big difference on our advice to you. When you have less time, we will suggest time saving measures that might not look quite as good but will allow you to finish in time.
  4. Which character should I cosplay as? Include all of the criteria that you're using to whittle down the options, including physical stats, coloring, and media genre. Try to also include what your favorite animes, games, and comics are so that we can figure out something personal for you!

Managing sweat odors in large cosplay suits

So I've been cosplaying as a mobile suit and am usually quite sweaty when I'm in the suit as it's made of multiple layers of foam. I've been told that I don't smell bad when the helmet and everything else is on, but they could just be polite, and obviously the less smell the better!

Baltimore Comic Con

Otakon

Apart from the obvious (maybe not so obvious), I shower before and after, use deodorant, have someone to help me wipe off sweat intermittently, etc. I also:

  • Have a neck fan to increase air flow into the helmet.
  • Plan to install some fans inside the torso armor piece as well (I already made the backpack functional, so I can hide the battery there).
  • Cut hidden holes in the armor to increase ventilation inside the suit.

What are other ways to help reduce the odor from sweat? Has anyone tried putting in a Febreze air freshener inside their cosplay suit to help neutralize odors? Thanks :)

best glue for rhinestones/gems and best fabric paint for painting on sweatpants material

hey!! I’ve been looking for brightly coloured/wildly patterned sweatpants all over the internet, thrift stores, etc, but cannot find what I’m looking for in plus sizes, so I’ve been thinking that buying white sweatpants and designing them myself will be the best option. I want to be able to machine wash these (in a garment bag) and not have the gems fall off, and also spend long periods of time moving/dancing so am looking for paint that will not dry stiff and will be flexible, I know I’ve heard of people mixing paint with fabric softener? but not sure what kind of paint or where to start at all. thank you all in advance for your help and advice!

Belts and harnesses advice

So, this is the first build i am actually making from scratch. There is quite a bit of stuff that i need advice on, but for now just the small things. For those who may not know this character, this is Garrett Hawke from Dragon Age 2 and there are different variations of him. The variation i am doing is the Mage variation.

I have the armor pieces in the works and i am unsure on how to attach them to the harnesses they need to be on or what to even use. I know fake leather is an option to make the belts and everything on them, but i am curious if there is anything else i could use for a possible better result. Any recommendations is appreciated
