I’ve been visiting this house for a while and until today it was a private spot surrounded by orchard. All 10+ acres have been cleared which makes me think this house isn’t long for this world.

Just one building inside a massive complex of abandoned buildings, a former steel plant.

During the 1970s and 1980s, foreign competition began to make it financially impossible to continue production of products at the plant. In 1982 majority of the facility was closed, laying off around 18,000 workers. During the early 2000s the small amount of remaining operating facilities began to close. After 2001 the plant only employed around 250 workers, the steel company declared bankruptcy in 2003 and all operations were officially ended in 2009. The city the steel plant was in took a massive hit, as the plant employed a large number of residents and the amount of taxes the plant paid accounted for 66% of the cities revenue, which dropped to 8% after the massive closures in 1982. The plant also had a contract with the United States Federal government to roll uranium fuel rods for nuclear reactors. It is believed by many local residents that due to inproper safety measures, the plant gave cancer to hundreds of local residents and workers. This rumor coincides with the abnormally high amount of cancer cases in the neighborhood residing next to the plant.
