Small village in Spain
This old abandoned farm house (erected circa 1850) in the field across the street from Camp Otter Road is actually the second house to be built on this parcel of land. The original house was about a mile back from Rt 3. This property belonged to Edward Merrill. The house you see today was built for his son Daniel (b.July 14th, 1832 - d. March 18th, 1902) and his wife Caroline. Daniel's son Charles (b. Sept. 2, 1863 d. April 6th, 1936) and his wife Eva occupied the house next. They had 2 children, Fay born Oct. 7th, 1895, and Iva, born Nov. 4th, 1899. Charles and Eva moved to another home further south on Rt 3, sometime in the early 1900's. Fay returned to the house in the 1920's after he married Hortense "Pinky" Masters (b. 1899-d.1980), who is the sister of Weldon, Ambrose, and Leland all of Pittsburg. Fay and Pinky had 3 children Leona, Evangeline, and Donald, all of whom were born in the house. When the children became of age to attend school, they moved to the gray house where Perry stream crosses Rt. 3 across from Dorman's gas station. The one room school house they attended was at the end of Danforth Rd, next to Bernard Covill's house. This building has been moved farther up Danforth Road and is now a private residence. After Fay and his family moved away from the old farm house, he rented it out, mostly to family until his death on May 31st, 1966. After passing away, his daughter Evangeline Merrill Maccini, born on September 22, 1919 and her husband Joseph Maccini of Woodsville bought the property from the other heirs. They also rented the property until their passing. Evangeline died on January 6th, 1999 and Joseph died on June 5th, 2002. The house was last occupied by two renters who left the property circa 2000. This was the last time the house was occupied. The property was divided among Joseph and Evangeline's 3 sons. Joseph Maccini Jr. of Woodsville is now the sole owner of the property.
