Post pictures of Googie architecture and design, including: Mid-century commercial architecture, Doo-Wop motels, roadside Americana, Streamline Moderne buildings, coffee shops, gas stations, bowling alleys, casinos.

Pop·u·luxe (n. - adj.) (Googie Architecture)

Strange, asymmetrical geometry. Colorful, flamboyant signs that seem slightly off-balance. Sweeping structural elements that seem to defy gravity. Space age/atom age optimism, filtered through the lens of a burgeoning car culture in post-war America.

This is a place of celebration for the Populuxe architectural style (aka Googie) of the mid 20th century and the idealistic future of travel, colour and design that it invoked.

It should be a crime to ever change the exterior of this place.

Theme Building from Terminal B / 4

Hey guys!! I have a 2hr layover in LAX in a few weeks time. I’ll be landing in LAX terminal
B before flying out of Terminal 4.

Do you know if this would give me time to see The Theme Building?

Where is best to be able to see it?

I’ve never been to LAX before and really want to try and see it as best as possible before I fly back out!

The former La Concha Motel lobby that's happily now The Neon Museum's visitor center/lobby.

Taken the Monday after Hurricane Hilary passed through in mid-late August 2023, which explains the clouds, and they helped create an almost-surreal background during much of our tour that night.

Related: I cannot recommend The Neon Museum enough because they pack so much history and even some science into the guided tour!! It was the one place I wanted to visit for my first trip to Vegas, and it exceeded my lofty expectations.

Bob Hope’s house

Random thought, what does Bob Hope’s Palm Springs house look like, lit up, at night?
