    Touchscreen on wrong monitor

The way to solve you touching the touchscreen and it clicking in another monitor is simple yet obscure and unintuitive. The solution:

Write Calibrate on the windows search bar > Calibrate screen for pen or touch > select the touchscreen monitor > touch the correspondent touchscreen.

    or

Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings > etc.

If you try to go through Settings > Tablet you can't access the "Tablet PC Settings".

I've ran into thihs problem a bunch of times and always forgot the solution and had to look online for this solution, only it was extremely hard to find each time. Hopefully this post will gelp anyone with this problem.

(I know ctrl panel isn't obscure but its fading out and windows directing you towards settings is really cofusing.

is there any software that can calibrate HDR monitors like the Windows 11 version but for Windows 10?

I have a monitor that supports hdr350 with a brightness of 400 nits. I know it's not enough for true hdr but I still want to make the most of it. I don't want to install Windows 11 just for a single hdr tool. Do you know any software, official or unofficial, that works similar to the Windows 11 hdr calibration app?

Question on system reserved and recovery partitions

Today I cloned my 120gb ssd to my 1tb nvme ssd. The 120gb ssd had my os on it and everything went fine but I see there is still the system reserved partition and recovery partition on my old 120gb ssd. Why is this on my old one and not on my new ssd since I cloned them? Can I delete this system reserved and recovery partition from my 120ssd so I can fully wipe it? The pc still boots up with the old ssd unplugged so in my eyes everything works fine without the system reserved and recovery partitions. Thank you!

How to hide a drive letter from ThisPC (without removing the drive letter assignment)

I have 2 desktop computers with Windows 10 pro. The C drive on both has 3 partitions. A 100 MB NTFS system reserved partition, my main C drive, and a small unallocated partition.

For some reason I cannot remember, a long time ago I assigned the first partition a drive letter (Z). I think I had some issue if it didn’t have a drive letter.

I didn’t want to see the Z partition drive in This PC so I hid it from view. I don’t remember how but I found a file I saved (I save everything), and it said to go to one of these registry keys:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

and create a NoDrives key and then using a specific number to hide the drive or drives you want.

I checked the registry on both computers, and neither have a nodrives key.

I also saw a method using group policy, but i checked both computers and the hide drives policy is not enabled.

So I have no idea why on one computer, the Z drive partition just became visible again out of nowhere, while it is still hidden on the other computer.

I know I can just remove the drive letter, but I’d rather not do that, and it wouldn’t resolve how one drive is still hidden.

Any ideas? Thank you very much.

TLDR: Trying to figure out how I hid a drive partition from view in THIS PC (it has a letter assigned). One computer still has it hidden, but the other became visible and I’m not sure why.

    Suggestions wanted Win 10 question

I’m not sure what’s up with this silly computer I’m messing with. Mostly I use it to check email, do a little online shopping, recreationally playing a MMORPG with a friend of mine and just surfing.

I’ve got a newer model I’m letting my kids use for a while. I really wanted to let them use that one until after tax season so they can get their own.

The MMORPG I play appears to be working okay for the most part.

My problem is out in the Windows environment. There used to be some programs that one could use to check the status of the software and a bit of the hardware. chkdsk defrag - those types of programs. I’ve been out of pocket for a while and need some suggestions as to what people are using now to check their computers.

I’ve got crazy blue screen errors, programs that are supposedly open but nowhere on the monitor is the window for them.

I’m not a dummy, I’ve been on these things since the early 90’s. This just has me stumped.

    Windows 10 1809 Pre-Installed App Packages

I've installed Windows 10 LTSC 2019 (which is Windows 10 1809 but still supported). I was looking to see if anyone had all of the pre installed app packages for regular Windows 10 1809. I've got the Windows 10 1809 Microsoft Store and App Installer. If I download the apps from the Microsoft Store, they'll be the 2024 versions of the apps and not the 1809 versions.

Import pictures from a single folder

When using the windows 10 photo import wizard to import pictures from my android pixel phone, it downloads every image file including screenshots, whatsapp, etc. How can the import be restricted to a single folder, DCIM/Camera?

I found this previous post but it doesn't use the import wizard in Windows 10 so would copy over an entire folder instead of organizing them by date, or whatever configuration the windows import wizard I choose.

    Any help? Thanks.

A little Windows love amidst the complaints

Not a corporate user here just someone who uses computers at home.

Yes windows has its problems and some can be more than annoying.

However while currently sitting at an old Lenovo T61 laptop running the latest update of W10 pro I came to realise why Win has always been my go to OS.

Being from the school of if it isn't broken and meets my needs don't fix or replace it I just love Windows OS for the following reasons

    1. Hardware compatibility. Currently my oldest computer is a Lenovo T61 and my newest is a homebuilt 2012-13 AMD/ASUS unit. Both are running the latest update of W10 pro without a glitch. The T61 started with Vista Business and the AMD started with Windows XP pro for which I had a license. Upgrades W7 to W10 pro have been at no cost.

    2. Peripheral and Software compatibility. I also have a number of peripherals that are at least 10 years old (do you detect a theme here). As I went from XP to W10 support for printers, scanners, HD docks and etc. would be dropped by the manufacturer. However Windows has this great driver compatibility setting. I just use my old drivers and when Windows complains set the driver compatibility to Win 8.1 and I now have a decent basic driver for the device. Also works for an amazing amount of older software.

In summary Windows has made my last 20+ years of computer use inexpensive and relatively pain free. I have no idea how MS is able to support so much hardware as the OS evolves.

Yes I have test driven Mac/Chrome/Linux OSs and they just are not for me.

Come next October I will need to get new hardware but it will probably be running Windows 11 unless they go subscription model.

Anyone knows why Fortnite uses so much ram?

The game also takes forever to open it takes around 10 mins or more. I don't think it should use the ram this much since Fortnite on my laptop uses half of this.

What is this feature? "Get quick access to apps on Windows device"

I have decided to do one final update to my Windows 10 new computer setup checklist, and as I am going through all the settings I come across something I have not seen before.

Under Settings -> Accounts -> Windows Backup -> Remember my apps: "Get quick access to apps on Windows device"

What does this do exactly? Any way I try to search for it I just get references to quick launch shortcuts which is not the same.

    Lightweight Screen Recorder options

I am looking for something very lightweight (similar to the built in Game Bar) recording. Game Bar doesnt work because it only attached to one active screen at a time. I am trying to make some quick videos for my company to show our geriatric users how to run a report and open the findings they need.

I cant seem to find anything like this that isnt some massive program for streaming games to multiple platforms (OBS etc). Im not trying to game, I dont need to stream anything, I dont need overlays. I just want to create a few quick 15 second videos to help some people out here at work.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

Went to my H:\ drive and my two folders I had store within it were somehow added to another folder

So I have scripts that I run that are stored within folder. A folder. Folder B has the permissions that allows me to run those scripts within the software this morning. Both files were in my H:\ drive. However, after walking away from my computer for an hour, I came back to a new folder within my H:\ drive, and when I click that new folder, my two folders, folder A and B are stored inside of it.

Has this ever happened to you where folders are just added to a random folder out of nowhere?

I haven’t tried yet, but I’m worried this will screw up my ability to run my scripts in my coding environment.

How do I pick a custom size for taskbar icons or thickness for Windows 10 taskbar? Defaults aren't doing it!

This is the default size. I don't use this of late, it's a bit too large.

    This I had.

And this is the \"use small taskbar buttons\", in Settings -> Personalization -> Taskbar.

This I prefer more, but it's still not my sweet spot.

Basically, the "normal" is too large for me and the "small" is too small (and uses different icons maybe? ones suited to less pixels).

The alternative, suggested by some, to have a custom taskbar size I guess (which I don't think means the same thing), is to right click on the taskbar, uncheck the "Lock the taskbar" option, and drag it up, in my case where the taskbar is at the bottom.

    But that gives me:

    Eww. Yuck.

    Ugh.

How do I set custom sizes as I wish? Pixel by pixel. like in the old Win 9x days I guess. Any registry or third party solutions? Prefer 3rd party ones if free, cuz registry stuff, backing up, keeping track is a chore.

1080p screen here (but large at that, 27"), so having the best pixel use as I see fit matters to me. The "small" option is too thin, and the large is too thick for me.

PS: If the above is possible, I'd like to have Windows use the icons from the large "normal" Win 10 taskbar, the higher resolution ones (maybe automatically downscaled) for my middle-ground taskbar-thickness. Or, idk, I'll use the current small ones (upscaled).

How do I stop these false security warnings?, part 2

I'm re-posting with new info. This has nothing to do with corrupt or dangerous files, so I'd like to avoid that part of the narrative.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/1cepuhu/how_do_i_stop_these_false_security_warnings/

    https://preview.redd.it/fkro54h2zcxd1.jpg?width=549&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00da8f31d9bec0d751aecd4b5af724831fbec3c5

This began happening maybe 1-2 years ago. But everything I currently have in place was there well before these symptoms began.

I seem to have unique circumstances, or at least atypical. I have an encrypted drive (created with Veracrypt). Every time I right click on any type of file in that drive, and "drag and drop" it elsewhere, anywhere else, when I release the right mouse button, the alert message appears.

However, nothing happens if I cut/paste or copy/paste.

The standard explanations, which do not include my "drag and drop" scenario, say the affected files were originated and imported from the internet, or a local area network or another computer.

This thread mentions drag and drop behavior, [https://superuser.com/questions/149056/disable-these-files-might-be-harmful-to-your-computer-warning?noredirect=1&lq=1\]\[2\], but that's where the similarity ends. The responses cite IP address from other sources.

    Example:

    1. I just created a simple image of a blank portion of my desktop, and saved it to my desktop.
    2. I then dragged and dropped it to my encrypted drive. The warning did **not** appear
    3. I then dragged and dropped that same file back to my desktop, whereupon the alert did in fact pop up when the right mouse button was released.

The obvious common factor here, at least in part, would be the encrypted drive.

Is there some security setting that is responsible, or some way to exclude the contents of the encrypted drive from being flagged?

    reinstalling windows 10

I have a laptop that is running 8.1 and was offered 10 as a free upgrade a few years ago. After giving 10 a try for a bit I wasn't a fan of it at the time so I went back to 8.1. Now I am running into a lot of problems with things not being compatible and saying I need windows 10 or higher. Can I reinstall windows 10 without having to buy a new key or have I lost that option after going back to 8.1?
