What will happen with a Win10 key if I will make a complete (clear) reinstall of Win10?

I have Windows 10 Home Edition (digital license key) and I want to make a complete reinstall of it. With a full erasing of local disks and merging them into one. But I wonder - what I should to do with a licensed key? What will happen with it?

Will the key lost forver or it will already activated on a fresh system (maybe after I'll enter into my account)?

Should I use ShowKey Plus to watch the key (and save it) and then use specific commands to erase the key from an old Windows. Then I will type the key again for an activation of reinstalled Win10. I did this when I transferred the key from a previous PC to a new one. But I'm not sure if I should repeat this procedure only for reinstall Win10 on the same PC.

Or I just can start a clear reinstall and don't mind?

hide/unhide desktop icons with a shortcut on the taskbar

Hi, I would like to know how to hide/unhide desktop icons with a shortcut on the taskbar?

    Thank you :)

So this seems to work pretty good, it's 3rd party but portable.

    Actual Hide Desktop Icons

    Main article

    important side note:

Why not using HideDesktopIcons.exe from How-To-Geek article? HideDesktopIcons program works ok but was not perfectly programmed. It can toggle show/hide Desktop icons normally, but it doesn't update the state of Show desktop icons in the context menu. So, sometimes it seems broken due to conflicting the state with our old usage behavior. (Right-click > View > Show desktop icons)

Is there a way to use older versions of YouTube on desktop?

Every big design change that I remember in last year or two was the one I didn't like at all.

    Examples:

Ambient light - useless for me only consumes more CPU for my laptop and makes everything unnecessarly slower and shortens battery life. But you can turn that off.

Comments automatically showing in fashion of subway surfers gameplay - now I don't even have to scroll to read comments while watching? if I wanna see comment's I'll do that specifically.

Opened video info is moved from bottom to right - again subways surfers fashion now my brain is blown with the video and all the info at the same time. Yes there used to be next video list but at least if you were interested in opened video it wouldn't drag much attention.

Switching accounts doesn't redirect you to home page, and instead tries to imitate as nothing changed, for some reason leaving my laptop unable to pause ongoing video or exit it for about 10 seconds.

A bit older but they removed dislike counts, but we adapted, just like we will to anything, with a bit of complaining or not.

The biggest problem for me is that it is a design drawing too much attention from the video and laggy and slow experience because I have a casual laptop.

I might seem arrogant but these are some things I've been keeping in my mind regarding youtube and these are my opinions. After all I just want some older version because it had already what you need but it wasn't laggy for my laptop.

is there any downside to merging 2 drives while formatting

i have a 2t 990 pro and a 4t 990 pro with heatsink which are both m.2 so there is 2 physical drives

i am gonna use 1T for operating system as C drive from the 2tb drive

which leaves 1 tb from first drive and 4 of the second drive

should i merge them (by formatting and partitioning) into 5t drive or will there be disadvantages or loss of speed

pc is new so there is no data loss from formatting

    Unlicensed Office Products

    Hi everyone,

I have an old laptop (circa 2020) from uni that I really only use for business. All my books are cloud based but I use excel for a bit of record keeping, having a few different spreadsheets for different things.

A couple days ago though every office program suddenly became unlicensed, I’m assuming that maybe the license from my university that this laptop had on it has run out, or something similar.

All I’m wondering is can I just a buy a product key online, in a once off payment to keep using the Office 2019 products? And if so, can anyone recommend a cheap one?

    Thanks!

How to set up permission for Windows File Share - Force particular user account login?

Using Windows 10 version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.4529)

I am trying to create a share folder over the network that forces logging into a particular dummy credentials to access the file share regardless of whether both computers have the same user accounts.

For instance let say both computer A and computer B has the same local admin username and password of "Sys Admin", Windows file share automatically lets the Sys Admin account on computer A access the shared folder of computer B even when password required setting is toggled on in Network Sharing settings. So to stop that from happening I tried going on computer B into computer management, created account "sharedummy", gave it a password. Went back into folder sharing permissions and removed all permissions, then added only the sharedummy account to the permissions. I then hopped back on to computer A, and tried to access the share folder on computer B, it says access denied and doesn't give me any option to type in the credentials for the sharedummy account.

So how do I set it up so that it prompts me to type in credentials.

Here is exactly what I am doing to set up the share folder and user.

    1. On Computer B click Start Menu -> Type "Computer Management"
    2. Click "Computer Management" -> Click "Local User and Groups" - > "Users"
    3. Right Click -> Click "New User"
    4. Create New User "sharedummy", with password that never expires, and user can't change password
    5. Navigate to the folder I want to share -> Right click "Properties" -> Click "Sharing" Tab
    6. Click "Network and Sharing Center" -> Open up "All Networks" -> click "Turn on password protected sharing"
    7. Go back to the folder's sharing properties screen -> Click "Advance Sharing"
    8. Click "Share this folder" -> Click "Permissions" -> Click "Remove" on the "Everyone" user group
    9. Click "Add" -> Type "sharedummy" -> Click "Check Names" -> Click "OK"
    10. Click "sharedummy" -> Click "Full Control" in Allow column - Click "OK"
    11. On Computer A Click "Start Menu" -> Open File Explorer -> Click "Network"
    12. Click on Computer B -> Click on shared folder
    13. Gets "Windows cannot access folder" message

So what am I doing wrong here?

SIM Card not for Phone Calls ?!

He folks, I tried around and searched the web. There is no place I could find a strict answer like: Sim Cards in Laptops/Tablets are not for making common phone calls (not VoIP), but I could not find any positive solution for my problem. The only thing seems to be the PHONE APP that was continued only for WinMobile.

So no chance here to solve? I would really like to use the SimCard in my Ideapad-Tablet for Internet AND still be available on my phone number...

Yes I know, a hotspot on my phone could do the trick. But as I am using a sweet BlackBerry Phone, I am afraid that my phone could melt doing this in summer (:

    Cheers!

Windows and Mac browser RAM usage comparison for 2024

I done this test because I could not find a recent data set with every browser I use compared together.

These amounts were found out by visiting the top 10 most visited sites according to Brave Search data:

    Google.com, Youtube.com, Facebook.com, Amazon.com, Wikipedia.org, Instagram.com, eBay.com, Apple.com, Reddit.com and Yahoo.com

All websites had accounts signed in and all browsers used either Ublock Origin or the browsers native ad block (Safari used Adguard for Mac) Ad blockers were the only extensions enabled and private mode were turned on for all browsers to ensure the least amount of personal data was shared with the sites.

There are 2 sets of numbers, and they are categorized by High and Average. High is the max amount of ram found to be used during the testing and average is well the average amount found during testing. Testing time was 4 minutes per site.

    Now the numbers:

Should I use windows 10 ltsc or NTlite modified windows 10 Pro?

A friend gave me an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 TWR that his company doesn't use anymore. It currently has Windows 10 ltsc 21h2 installed.

    it has i5-4570 CPU, 32GB DDR3 1600MHz ram, and 240GB SSD.

would it be better to stay on Windows 10 ltsc 21h2 or to make and install an NTlite modified Windows 10 Pro?

Reinstalling Windows 10 with Microsoft Office paid version

So basically, I want to reinstall my windows but I have some type of retail microsoft office version that I paid for once and it has been working ever since for years, now the thing I am guessing is that by reinstalling windows it will get deleted and I will have to buy it again.

I was wondering, is there a way for me to somehow keep it from being deleted while reinstalling windows, could I somehow save it with my D drive?

What happened to my Paint3D program

Solved- I shut down then restarted and I was able to use paint even though it still does that when I right click and choose. The search box also let me type after a started up again. I had done a restart earlier which did not solve the problem. Not sure what the diff would be but it seems to matter for this problem. Thank you all for the help.

I use Paint 3d to edit pictures. Mainly as an easy way to shrink the pixel count. I used it as recently as the last couple of months. Yesterday I went to use it. right click choose "Edit with Paint3D" and I get a box that tells me I have to download something.

Can anyone tell me what is going on there? I did a search about it and found article from 2021 saying it was going away but I never knew that and as I said I had it as recently as a couple of months ago. It came with my machine which cannot be upgraded to Win11.

I want to know how and why it was removed from my machine.

Boot takes almost six times longer with Windows 10 as it does with Linux Mint 21.3

Why is Windows 10 so slow? When I swap out hard drives and run this same chassis with Linux Mint Mate 21.3 I'm getting ten second boot times, and when I click on the icon for chromium (instead of chrome) instead of having a 14 second launch time it's only a three second launch time.

How do I make Windows 10 as fast as Linux Mint Mate edition?

    Forced update to windows 11

Hi I have an older lady who's dell machine is trying to force its way onto her 8th gen intel dell machine. I have disabled updates services completely, modified any registry entry I could find online including the distro channel, and disabled what I think was the re-enablement services and associated scheduled tasks/startup items. When I did this it finally stopped with the nonsense to upgrade and said their was an error. Now after 3 weeks, she is getting this message again to schedule upgrade to windows 11 which seems to indicate that updates are turned back on...I mean what else is there to do besides disabling TPM? Maybe blocking windows servers in the hosts file? I am at a loss. This is the home version on 22h2.

Security updates KB5037768 and KB5036892 casuing massive stutters/crashes in my competitive games.

I had no idea these updates were the ones causing all the stutters(got to know about it after reading comments). Uninstalling them fixed the issue. I was about to lose my mind stuttering every 5-10 mins in valorant. Was facing this issue since last month. Please don't release half tested updates. This has caused me mental problems.

What should users with older hardware do at the end of support next year?

I just noticed my PC is below the minimum specs for windows 11 because I have a sixth generation I3 6100.

Windows 10 works very nice on my pc, I'm being able to produce music flawlessly and do some 3d animation with blender, So I was not planning on upgrading it soon.

Also playing X-plane 11 on mid settings, so clearly it is still a capable machine.

What am I supposed to do at the end of next year?

Edit: Disclaimer - I'm looking only for legal solutions and I would rather to avoid Linux if possible.

Is skipping KB5034441 for the time being an okay option?

Since Microsoft doesn't want to fix the issue themselves and wants users to do it instead, how big of a vulnerability is it to wait till the next security update (assuming there will be no errors then)?

I'm on the latest Windows 10 22h2 version along with any cumulative updates (but no previews). I've also seen some tutorials on how to fix said issue but I'm not sure if it's really worth the hassle in case I mess something up.

On a side note I don't really use bitlocker and my PC is mainly for gaming purposes and nothing else.
