Is it normal to have 2 offer letters?

Hi. I work in the IT industry. I recently qualified for a job role and they were matching my salary expectations. However, they said it’s common practice for candidates to use their offer letters for a counter offer from their current organization. In such cases, it’s a waste of time for the hiring firm. To tackle that, they said they would be giving me an offer letter with the salary written as my current salary. Only upon visa cancellation, they will provide the offer letter with the agreed upon salary. I’m worried about this, because if they go back on their word, I’ll lose my (very comfortable) job and will be left with a company that I no longer trust to work for. I’m new to the country so need some insights. Any thoughts ?

What are some organizations in the UAE that you know of that pay IT professionals very well, regardless of nationality or gender?

Why is it so hard to be a man trying to provide for your family without job security? The constant fear and stress of one small change affecting everything you love is overwhelming and scary.

Career mentorship

I recently moved to UAE from the states and would love to find a career/life mentor. Im a female in my mid 20s. Im really outgoing and love chatting with people. Im looking for someone is experienced, has been successful in their field and can give good advice. If you think you'd be a good fit send me a comment or dm😊.

Does UAE have any websites to find mentors? In the US we have a lot of these sorts of things.

Salary decrease

Hello everyone.

I am a doctor working in a clinic and earn 16k.

Was sent a mail stating the clinic is not making profit and that patients are leaving with just consultation and no treatment. Forcing me to unethically do extra treatment and tests not required. (But obv that's not mentioned in the mail, but that's what they mean)

Therefore they will reduce salary to 12k. And that they will send an emended contract for me to sign. Which I will not.

My labour contract says 16k. And a notice of 30 days in case of breach of contract.

What are my options here if I don't sign the new contract?? As far as I can see

  1. They terminate me and I serve 30 days notice. So during that period they will have to pay me 16k correct ??

  2. Or they accept and keep me for 16k which is highly unlikely.

Passed red light

Hi all, accidentally crossed the red light in Abu Dhabi in a rented car. The cars in front of me went ahead but the cars behind me stopped, I didn’t notice the lights and passed the red light, assuming it was fine because the cars in front of me went ahead. I made it across without realising until a minute later, I’m now panicking on what will happen. Can someone give some advice? Thank you

Do you judge newbies at the gym?

So I’m (28F) new to a gym and I’m extremely conscious about people watching me and judging me while I try and figure out the equipments. I also use the smallest weights because I’m, you might have guessed, new to gym and weak as hell. Just wanted to know if this is all in my head or if people are actually judgemental there.

Where to buy Hamilton watches

Hi, just saw that the watch I like is now available on a bracelet and I want to check if it’s already available here. All google searches leads me to chrono24 but I like buying stuff like these from actual stores if possible.

Anyone here know where I can buy the new Hamilton Khaki Field Murph watch?

Should I travel to Georgia as a Pakistani National working in the UAE?

Hello guys! I'm a Pakistani national living and working in the UAE. I'm looking forward to travel to Tblisi, Georgia during the matik so day holiday. I've been to Thailand, Azerbaijan and Turkey before. I was very excited to travel to Tblisi and have already booked the tickets.

However, here's where the dilemma kicks in. I was warned by friends and aquaintces about racial profiling, discrimination and denying entry of Pakistani nationals at Georgia airport. Heard horror stories of people being deported for no reason. And now I'm heartbroken. I'm thinking of canceling my ticket. The last thing I want is to be deported.

If you're a Pakistani citizen or the citizen of a developing world, please do let me know how was your experience there? Any advice you'd have for me? Thanks.

Ajman to Dubai ( IMPZ ) and back

I'm looking for a carpool service or anyone who goes from Ajman to IMPZ. I'm willing to pay. I have a car but it's costing me 2k for gas monthly. I'm willing to take someone with me for a price or go with someone and I'd pay.

Business Question - Shady Car Rentals

Hello All.

Burner account because most of you would recognize/ doxx me from my main.

Backstory: I've recently managed to get my license (< 1 year) and i've been renting my car so far to get used to the road.

I've been through 3 months ezhire, 2 months hertz, 1 month dollar car rental, renty and vesla with a month each, both meh.

I've had a bad experience with certain brands on this list and am just — tired.

If I'm a young professional, just got my license after months of taking the metro/ bus/ lifts, I should be able to give money, get car. Take care of car, stay in limits SHOULD equal no extra charges.

Is it that hard to find a good car rental? YES.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

What would you think of this model?

  • No deposits required.
  • Drivers above 21 only. Drivers below 50 only.
  • ALL rents for UNDER 1600 a month. No VAT/ Service charge/ fees bullshit. ALL inclusive. And I MEAN all inclusive.
  • Minimum 1 month contract
  • If you take a longer contract, and wish to cancel, cancellation fee equal to monthly rent divided by 4. No questions asked. Free pickup within shj-dxb-ajm
  • ALL cars come with 4,000 km standard, with AED 1/ 10 km that you go over. Dhs. 100/1000 km you overshoot.
  • Salik @ Dhs 5.50. To cover the credit card / charge costs I’m going to incur when topping up the smarTAG.
  • If you accrue a fine, it will NOT be paid until you either come to the office or send us a bank transfer for the amount. We will pay the fine and give you 1) a receipt from our end, 2) screenshot, and 3) our bank statement with everything except the fine payment redacted. If there is a fine we will phone you and give you the above 2 options. If you take more than 30 days, we will pay it automatically. Then, you have to reimburse us within 4 weeks, with a 5% upcharge for every week you delay.
  • Before you take the car, we will make a damage report. When you return it if there’s extra damage, we will come to an agreement about getting it fixed.
  • As I’m not concerned about retail, not going to go after customers and charge them 249.65 AED for MINOR scratches. 1 inch Dents and above, I need the customer to fix.
  • Free pickup and drop within shj-aj-dxb. AUH, RAQ, FUJ, and UAQ payable delivery.
  • You will get the car with a 75% tank. You can return it with 0%.
  • Every car will come with an (empty) Jerry Can 10L, that you have to return.
  • 100% free roadside assistance if your car breaks down. (Dedicated phone number to talk to a human within 10 minutes).
  • On multi-month contracts, 1 free at-home monthly cleaning (interior and exterior).
  • You can Roll the car into our ajman or sharjah or dubai garage (2 partnerships in each city) anytime during working hours to get any small issues checked out. If it's something that was genuinely an issue (starter motors, wipers or indicators not working etc) you won't be billed. If it was something non-urgent (tint was bothering you, car was not "clean", or glovebox was rattling, you'll be charged.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Reminder:

(Potential) cars I'm going to offer starting July 1 2025.

Visa Rejection for Palestinians holding Travel Documents

I know two people who are unable to renew their residence visa who happen to be Palestinians holding travel documents from Lebanon. They have been living and working the UAE for a very long time. Does anyone know if there is a visa ban on them?

That would be really sad if there is a ban on them. Not like they have a place to go now is there?!

FYI

While driving at 40-60 km/h on a two-lane road in a residential school zone, I encountered a driver aggressively tailgating me, flashing their headlights, and honking, demanding that I move to the right while Im preparing to position myself for a U turn.

It seems they assumed all roads have a designated overtaking or fast lane, which isn’t true. On a two-lane road, especially in a school zone, the focus should be on safety and compliance with traffic laws, not rushing others. Such behavior is reckless and dangerous, especially in areas where children or pedestrians are likely present. Let’s prioritize road safety and patience over aggression.
