This is not a place for special deals on laptops, or a place to sell your old laptop.
A lot of laptops today still use low quality TN displays. The quality is worse than IPS or good TN. This is the case for many 1080p displays that aren't listed as IPS or 120Hz+, and nearly all displays 768p/900p.
Comparison pictures: 1, 2, 3, 4
Notable models:
There may be other concerns too such as colorspace or response times. Many IPS displays are far from perfect still.
Some laptops that list high resolutions (1440p through 4K) use "PenTile" RG/BW or WR/GB matrix panels instead of RGB/RGB. These trick consumers because the listed resolution numbers are the same, but the detail is less, and they produce artifacts. These have mostly been phased out, but are still present or available in some models.
Notable models:
Note: Sharp and OLED Samsung panels are true 4K.
U-series vs H-series, and 2-core vs 4-core, mean more than Core i5 vs Core i7. The difference between an "i5" 8250U and "i7" 8550U is less than it might sound like. An "i5" 8300H is more powerful than either. More info is available here.

I’m a creative marketer. From designing catalogs, logos, flyers, you name it. I currently have a Alienware which is a beast, but there are times when I’d like to bust out something smaller and more practical to do touch up work, or post to my clients social media. I mean, my Alienware requires space and must be charged in.
Also, I use GoodNotes and have tried others, so I’d really like to be able to take organized notes. Lastly, I’d like to work on a book, and again would love to sit in bed on a tablet to do that.
I do video editing and all that jazz too, but I guess what I’m asking is which tablet would work best for my needs. Almost act as a sidekick to my Alienware, something I can still knock out graphics projects, take notes, write a book etc. Something I can rely on when the larger laptop isn’t present.
Is CoPilot really that great, I mean can it help me save time on projects?
I have a 2023 iPad Pro and even downloaded Adobe on it, but hasn’t been the best experience. My iPad Pro dies fairly fast too.
Now looking for that perfect companion would you recommend the
Surface Pro, Copilot+ PC - Snapdragon® X Plus (10 Core)
Or the
2024 iPad Pro
I do like using the pen action and prefer using it as a tablet.
I know the Surface comes with less space, but I can always move design projects off of it. I do have an iPhone too, so there’s that. I just need a machine to make my design projects, note taking and everything that much easier.
I’d love to knock out this catalog on a tablet honestly. Oh and I do web design too.

Total budget:
$900-1400 USD
Are you open to refurbs/used?
Probably not - open to suggestions
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
2-in-1 - with numpad - high priorities
How important is weight and thinness to you?
Highly important - top contender LG Gram-Pro 2-in-1
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
16" because of numpad requirement - would consider high value 14" with wireless numpad
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Light vintage gaming - starcraft 2 Desktop PC available for heavy workloads Heavy productivity - 60tabs open, 12 office documents, 12 emails, Editing large PDF's (building plans)
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I don't actually care - desktop has rtx3090
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Cheaper laptops meet most of my requirements. But I'd like to have a modern processor so that I don't need to replace it when Ai becomes a requirement. Resolution over 1080 is preferred. Bright display is helpful. I tend to keep a laptop for 6ish years, so longevity/repairability/or replaceability are important.
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I missed an opportunity for the LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 during black friday. Available from Costco with 32gb of ram and a high resolution ips screen, for $999. I'm kicking myself because it seemed perfect. Looking for a value/spec alternative that meets my requirements. Haven't been able to find one on my own! Thanks in advance!
I'm a medical student and want to do light video editing and light gaming (mostly older titles) on my laptop. I can't choose between two laptops of my preference, here are their specs.
Qbits Sigma X2- a great 2k LCD display, 16|512 and has all the upgradibility, i5 1240p but with thermal throttling, which reduces it's power about 20-30%, iris xe integrated graphics, a moderate battery (4-5 hrs)
Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3- it has i5 13420h but UHD graphics with 48eu, 16|512 with no upgradibility (RAM is DDR5 tho), average display and average battery. It's price is also about 15% higher.
The first one is a local brand in my country of origin ( Bangladesh), but they are a new startup, so they are giving good servicing and parts warranty. But their thermal management is subpar, so I was thinking if a cooling pad would help.
Please help me choose between these two, thanks in advance.
I'm looking for a budget laptop for lab use under 800$ (The cheaper it is, the better it is ;D). The main things I would do with it would be calculations on demos, working with some documentaries, and writing university applications. I asked one of my friends who works as a programmer, and he kept nudging me to buy an ASUS. I don't even know if that is budget, but I don't buy him that much. So, regardless of brand, do you guys have any recommendations?
* I play video games, like League of Legends, nothing much.
* I want it to be light
* Enough battery capacity for 6-8 hours
* 4 GB RAM is not acceptable. I do not have time for it to load my Chrome for decades XD
* No cranking keyboard, please.
*** NEED NUMBER PAD***
* Thank you for all the recommendations!
Ideally would be spending around 1000 usd but willing to go up to around 1500
Ideally not but would be open
Battery Life and Form Factor are the most important things, closely followed by performance. I don't care about 2 in 1 or touchscreen.
Very Important, I want the laptop to be under 3.5 lbs.
14“
Will be using for CAD through solidworks modeling, rendering, running simulations, MATLAB, and just about anything else. Will also use to play games occasionally and watching shows/movies.
On the heaviest end maybe something like BG3 which ideally I could get maybe 30 fps in the busier areas, but generally speaking I'd be playing more indie games so it's not a priority.
Good WiFi card. I don't want it to run too hot, especially if there would be ventilation issues with it running while I'd be in bed or if it were in my lap. A good display and speakers are preferred. Quiet fans, atleast with casual use like web browsing and streaming video.
Ultimately I need something that will last me throughout my education, and hopefully beyond, that is portable, able to run more intensive programs I'll use throughout my engineering degree (so ideally a good chip, an RTX graphics card, and probably 32 gb of ram), has a good enough battery life that I can use all day, and has a display and speakers that's pleasant to look at and listen to. I'm willing to fork up a good amount of money for this because I'll be using the laptop a lot for both work and pleasure so I want something a little premium. My current dream laptop is the Asus Zypherus G14 but for whatever reason the 32 gb ram version is 1650$ as opposed to 1200$ for its 16 gb counterpart.

400€ Germany
Yes, preferred
decent build quality that will last a few more years, battery life not really important as most of the time will be spend in home office
Not important
14“
80% will be web development, coding & general office use, will need to edit Photos from time to time (Lightroom & PS), having the option to spin up a vm would be a nice to have
No gaming needs
HDMI/DP or dockingstation, Bluetooth
I‘m mainly looking for a laptop to work on and take with me. Would appreciate if I could get some feedback on what CPUs to look for. so far I‘ve found some i5s and i7s. Mostly 8365U, 8665U, 10310U and some 11th gen i5s. The difference between 8th and 10th gen seems to be quite negligible, as far as I can tell. Would it be worth to spend a little bit more and go with 11th gen?
Thanks for the help!
My mom currently uses an ancient Toshiba laptop that doesn’t even have a battery anymore and has a miserable amount of RAM. I want to purchase something new for her that:
1, runs windows
2, is semi familiar for her
3, has a decent battery
4, is relatively portable
5, is somewhere between $200 and $600
And 6, is good for billing, accounting, planning, multitasking, and things of the sort. She does all the family’s financing, investing, and planning on her Toshiba so it needs to be ideal for that kind of thing. TYIA :)
No other specific details are necessary, obviously build quality is important and I think a 15inch screen is the base size I’d look at, but nothing else is strict :)
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
**Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:**About $1500 SGD (plus minus $200), purchasing in Singapore
Are you open to refurbs/used? no
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Good build quality that can last me for 5 years or more, prefer battery life of 8 hours, looking at intel core ultra i7 model (open to ryzen too if it fits my requirements)
How important is weight and thinness to you? anything below 2kg
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. prefer laptop with numpad
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Casual video editing using Davinci Resolve ( not 4k video)
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? if it can play valorant on low settings with 60 fps will be good
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? would love reliable build quality (I am prone to dropping)
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I am currently a sport science student and probably will need do work on some specialised software (so not looking at snapdragon) and am learning to code so probably do not need very powerful laptop but will probably do some basic data analysis (with python) I also like to open multiple tabs and softwares so would like a laptop that can handle this
currently looking at asus vivobook 16 and lenovo ideapad slim5 pro (i7 and geforce graphic) would like input but open to other model as well (preferably with international warranty)
So before I start rambling on about what I am thinking of, these are the specifications (i hope its good enough) :
Brand
I do not really mind, but I have heard that Dell and HP laptops might not be worth it. (I have been looking at Lenovo a lot tho)
Operating System
Windows 11
RAM
32GB
Storage
512GB - 1TB
Screen
13" - 15". At least 1440p resolution and 120hz would be optimal.
Ports
HDMI (I am planning on streaming my console games through the laptop) USB-A = as many as possible USB-C so I can connect it to my monitor whenever I need it.
Battery Life
As long as possible honestly
Weight
As long as it doesn't weigh more than my grandma's sewing machine it's fine.
Usage (this is where it starts)
(I want to experiment with like everything.)
I want to try out some rendering and mess with some 3D stuff
I want to stream content to twitch
Light gaming with decent framerate Ex: (Geometry Dash at decent fps, Osu, A Dance of Fire and Ice, Undertale, Roblox)
Classwork and School Projects
Multi-tasking & browsing
Video and photo editing
I am planning to eventually learn how to code
I also want to mess with Music producing and eventually learn some
Extra nonsense
As you can see a lot of my plans and expectations are experimental. I am not sure if I could learn some of those things and advance to a certain level that a low end laptop will not suffice. With this light gaming I am not sure how far I will go without a dedicated graphics card even if I am playing low-end games. I am just scared of making the wrong decision and wanting to upgrade later on :c
Budget
$800 - $1200 (US Dollars)
(if u need more info please ask :) and i am willing to accept that all these things will only be manageable without the "light gaming" which is definitely limiting the amount of cores in the cpu before its useless for that"
Preferably less than 1000€ (Latvia)
No
Performance is very important. Battery life and build quality too.
Preferably on the larger side
I'd like to do some photo/video editing and light gaming
The beefiest game would only be Minecraft, but I'd like the laptop to run it well
I'd like a few usb ports and an HDMI port if possible
I want a pretty light laptop, one I can take with me to do school/work. I don't mind macbooks since I have an iPhone currently.
im in the uk, my budget is around £450 but id prefer it to be a bit lower, and im also hoping for some expansion packs and cc, and other games like stardew valley. any suggestions? thank you :)
Total budget
~$500. USA.
Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes
Would like a regular clamshell laptop. As long as the build quality isnt completely shot, that's fine (my current one turns off sometimes when adjusting the screen angle, so.. better than that). Battery life does not matter, will be plugged in most of the times.
Not important. Will not be used to travel much.
Prefer smaller than 15" but its not that important. As long as it has an hdmi and USB A ports.
No, will mostly be used to watch movies and shows.
Must have an hdmi port and at least 1 USB A port (preferably 2+). Must be able to output 4k, but the laptop's own monitor doesnt need to have those specs.
Edit: output 4k @ 60Hz at least
A lot of the resources online are about 4k gaming which I dont do, or about what laptop monitors are 4k.
Of course specific suggestions are great, but if not, then I probably just need a good jumping off point for what to start looking for. Do I need a laptop with integrated gpu to get 4k or is that overkill? What's the lowest/cheapest CPU/GPU I need to get? Is $500 too optimistic for this ask? I sorta feel like I dont know what I dont know so Im hoping for this post to steer me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance :)
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
I would like a new laptop. Use mostly for web browsing, steaming, excel, PowerBI and might learn SQL.
Needs:
backlit keyboard, USB-C with video output to hook up to dual monitors, at least 8GB ram and 256GB SSD (if not more).
Is this possible for under $800? I like my work laptop which is a Lenovo thinkpad, but I think they are much more then my budget.
Any suggestions?
ASUS TUF 15.6" - (Intel Core i7-13620H/16GB RAM/1TB SSD/GeForce RTX 4070)
vs
HP - Victus 16.1" IPS 144Hz - (AMD Ryzen 7-8845HS/32GB RAM/2TB SSD/GeForce RTX 4070)
Both $1500 from Best Buy right now.
Clearly, the HP has the better specs but it is from a 3rd party (Tech Nation).
ASUS is (arguably) the better brand, and sold directly from Best Buy.
Trust the re-seller or go direct from Best Buy....??
Just got into my dream school and i need a good school computer, 800 or under, any suggestions would be awesome. thank you
Hi all,
I'm looking for a laptop suitable for a hybrid worker in a technical sales role. This person will be travelling internationally quite frequently to meet clients, so portability and versatility are key. Below are the requested specs:
Brand:
Not overly fussed, but Dell has been suggested as a preference.
Operating System:
Windows 11. Not sure whether to go for Home or Pro—open to advice on this.
RAM:
Minimum of 16GB.
Storage:
At least 512GB SSD, but 1TB or more would be ideal.
Screen:
Preferably around 13" to 15". A touchscreen would be a nice feature, though not essential.
Ports:
An HDMI port and USB-A would be nice to have but aren't deal-breakers.
Battery Life:
Looking for as much as possible—ideally 10 hours or more.
Weight:
The lighter, the better—ideally under 2kg, though a slightly heavier laptop is fine if it fits the other criteria.
Usage:
Budget:
Up to £1,500.
If you need more information, feel free to ask. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Hey there.
I'm looking for a laptop to work and watch videos on. Budget is 1500€ tops, preferably under 1000€ though. If there's something considerably better over 1k and it's not that much more expensive then I'll also appreciate any info.
I am considering whether to upgrade my current gaming laptop. I have a previous generation (12th Gen) gaming laptop with the old RTX3080 laptop edition GPU and 64GB RAM. I am thinking of upgrading to the current gen to take advantage of local AI processing with Microsoft Co-Pilot+. Most of the Co-Pilot+ laptops I see out there are Snapdragon-based, which won't work for a gaming PC, and I haven't found many well-priced and gaming-specced Intel AI processor laptops. Hoping to get some good recommendations, time frame is patient so I am willing to wait a month or two if there are stuff right around the corner. All other details below in questionaire response:

I’m looking for a laptop on that price range. With numeric keypad. I’m not looking for a gaming style, it is for work. Needs to be a windows computer, not Mac. With backlit keyboard. Enough ram and cpu with the one I shouldn’t worry about for work, video calls, etc
Preferably with 1080p camera and fingerprint unlock if available.
Hello,
Currently using an HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-dk0xxx and have been since 2020. It’s served me well but it’s had a rough go of it and physically, it’s falling apart, so I would like to replace it before I’m in desperate need of one.
I work at least 8 hours, 5 days a week on my laptop, handling large spreadsheets and building advertising campaigns. I take it back and forth for meetings or traveling every so often so I need something a little durable, but nothing crazy. I’ve been trying to shop around but just haven’t found anything that draws me in yet, and I’ve been out of the loop for so long, I don’t know what a good price looks like anymore. I purchased my current laptop for under $600 right before COVID and inflation got bad.
Specs I’m looking for:
RAM: Over 8GB (currently have 8 and I definitely bog it down)
Hard drive: 256GB or larger
Processor: I think I have 2.4GHz right now, I do put it at its limits so something faster would be nice
Resolution: 1920x1080 or better
Screen size: 15.6” or larger
Weight: Not important
Keyboard: Numeric keypad included, ideally backlit
I think it’s standard for a webcam and mic to be included but those are also crucial for work, I hate having to wear headphones, lol.
Open to any suggestions, or even models to avoid so I can cross them off of my potential list. Thank you!!
Currently I have a HP Pavilion Notebook model: 15-au181na. Had it for about 8/9 years but after severe damage to the screen/Hard Drive and god knows what else, I'm looking to updrade. I love this laptop and it has put up with so much of my shit that I want to be incredibly careful on what I buy.
I used it mostly for gaming and school work along with tech graphic projects. I loved the keyboard, size, and overall feel to it.
I bought it at about 500 - 600 ish so my budget is 800 max, preferably 600 - 800 though.
Thank you.
