Hi all, moved to the area about 3 months ago and I'm looking for a mid to low level outdoor soccer league to play in in the area. I am a male 25 year old goalie and would be happy to play in men's or coed!
The city council will be voting tonight on the formation of a Transportation Benefit District within the city limits. Some of the wording in the proposal:

Does anyone know what’s going into the old Bed, Bath, and Beyond spot? Next to Best Buy and Ross on Meridian.
Anyone know any good parks in the general area for larger scale rc cars? Ty
Looking for a gym to join and came across this one. I haven’t trained in anything for years so I was considering CrossFit. All their Google reviews are 5 stars so it comes across as a little suspicious. If you have any experience with this gym (or any others) I’d like to hear about it. TIA.
Three police units are at the church on the corner of 9th and 14th St. Anyone know what’s going on?
Just saw a sheriff chasing a black car west on 176th.
My wife and I are moving away in a few months and we want to commission a local artist to do a painting of our view of Mt Rainier from Spanaway. We’ll pay regular market rate (not looking for huge discounts, payment in exposure, or oddball trades, unless you’re into any of that). We’ll provide the picture and you do the painting as close to it as you can. Maybe 24”x32”, or whatever similar size canvass you work with.
Please send a link to your portfolio and an approximate price point. Thank you!
Edit: sorry, I’m not looking for digital art, it needs to be paint on canvass
Even though the weather is not looking to be great, I'd like to do some driving tomorrow to enjoy and take pictures of scenery. My first visit to the PNW was exactly 12 years ago this weekend, and the weather was rainy and nasty too, but the colors still took my breath (I come from Florida - our "autumn" lasts a few days here and there and we don't get much color at all). I am thinking I'll drive towards Mt. Rainier, but can anyone suggests destinations I should put on my drive?
I hit a loose dog in Puyallup and can’t find anyone who will fix my almost 30 year old car.
Found our perfect house. Our preferred layout, 2 car garage, great backyard and within our price range
Catch is there is literally no driveway.
How is that possible? Well there is a main road with two way traffic and a small private road which serves 3 houses. First house has its own driveway; second (one we are interested in) and third don't. Third ,however, is at end of street and hence the owner has use up all the space in his/her end. So we can still park in front of our house, but horizontal to the house.Incase we parked vertically we would be partially on that private road and block some of it, which would prevent a large car like a firetruck from passing by, if needed. There are no off-street parking nearby
Would you purchase such a home? What's your reasoning? (Mine is, no place for my buddies to park their vehicle)
Location: Puyallup, WA
I have to be fair, for many years I have been a customer without complaint. In the last 10 months I have had 2 of my 3 units burglarized, one of them twice now.
I used to be passed when I missed the open hours window. Now, apparently if you are a premium customer or some such, you get 24 /365 access. I guess they have cameras but thats not helpful after they moving van your crap out in the middle of the night.
A word to potential storage users: your stuff isn't safe there, for sure.
I’m thinking about checking out Horror Con this weekend. Is this the first one or is it annual? Is it worth it?
Looking for a salon that knows how to cut/style curly and/or wavy hair
On Saturday, at Pierce College Puyallup, there was a candidate forum for both legislative and judicial candidates. Unfortunately, the event was poorly advertised and turnout was lackluster with maybe two dozen attendees, mostly campaign helpers. Moderators drew audience submitted questions out of a bowl, each candidate had 30 seconds to respond.
I submitted the question: We had 58 homicides in Pierce County in 2023 but 115 road fatalities, what is your solution?
Responses in order of mic passing:
Kenneth King (D) noted that driver behavior had greatly declined since COVID, he commented on how enforcement is lacking but stressed that policing should be fair. He mentioned that road improvements will be necessary to fix issues but he didn't specify what improvements (until I asked later, see below).
Chris Gildon (R): "Big topic, huge topic - I agree we definitely need a little construction to facilitate the flow. Have you driven on I5 or 512 recently? And notice just the amount of angry drivers out there, who are just weaving in and out of traffic and road rage and all that kind of stuff and that's one of the reasons why I'm trying to do what I can to reduce tension in our society; In this case, political tension and just you know get rid of unnecessary drama and bring tensions down."
Cyndy Jacobsen (R) mentioned investing in more police recruitment to increase enforcement capacity but then pivoted to her only substantial stance during the event: Yes to 2117. She stated that the Climate Commitment Act funding can't be used to repair roads and bridges. She then went on to say that repealing taxes is one of her goals and that the state government already has enough funding.
Shelli Willis' (D) campaign manager was present but Shelli would show up later due to an event with local firefighters (if I understood correctly). Shelli's campaign manager spoke in favor of additional transportation funding.
Cameron Severns (D) replied to Jacobsen's commitment to police funding. "Yeah, so just so you understand if you vote in favor of 2117, you're voting to defund the police because all of our state troopers are funded through the transportation budget. On road safety, I am a big safety freak; I will just say this, car-centric communities are inherently dangerous. We need to start moving towards walkability and transit because the more you drive, the more at risk you are."
Michael Keaton (R - not the actor), Cameron Severns's opponent, was absent from the forum.
Kenneth King's response wasn't exactly clear but he clarified it later during the closing mingling portion and it's in the right ballpark. He believes things need to be done to enhance connections on the hill from a road grid perspective while improving facilities for active transportation users.
Chris Gildon's response is lunacy. A vibes-based approach to solving an engineering and behavioral problem is not a solution. I couldn't follow up and ask more because he left the event swiftly. I didn't expect a thorough plan in 30 seconds but, he didn't even offer a solution. This is curious because Pierce Transit made it very clear to me during the Puyallup 2044 Comprehensive Plan Community Advisory Group and during their Long Term Plan Workshop at the library in September, that Gildon was the one who secured the Climate Commitment Act funding for Meridian signal improvements. Despite securing this funding, Gildon has gone on record in favor of 2117, which would repeal it. He's playing both sides so he can come out on top while his constituents are being killed on our streets. Facilitating "the flow" was targeted at reducing congestion, not deaths. "Reducing tension" is not a plan. The fact he can't even offer a concept of a plan is concerning because it means he hasn't even thought of road deaths as a public safety issue in his community. 115 deaths last year and 81 already this year and he hasn't even offered up a thought, let alone a prayer for the people he represents.
Unfortunately, Shelli Willis wasn't there yet to answer in person, but that doesn't mean Cyndy Jacobsen's answer was good. She's right that police enforcement is the underlying assumption of our road safety system. She's wrong on how the CCA applies to road safety. The CCA funds active transportation projects, which include things like Safe Routes to School. It also invests in transit. Move Ahead Washington provided short-term funding for free youth transit, and the CCA secures it for the future. Puyallup will be directly benefiting from CCA funding (unless 2117 passes) as our city is explicitly called out as a community that needs investment in pollution reduction. We have already earmarked funds for upgraded signals along Meridian to enable better bus reliability, potentially enable Bus Rapid Transit, and allow Emergency Response to respond to calls quicker and safer. BTW if you think "Hey safer streets for kids and better transit is good", vote NO on 2117. And you might as well vote against Jacobsen, who is trying to take away that good stuff despite the fact her district is home to one of the overburdened air-polluted communities.
I can't comment on Michael Keaton because he didn't show up but Cameron Severns' answer is on point. Suburban sprawl like South Hill or River Road are the most dangerous places for all road users. For instance, we had a pedestrian death earlier this year when a driver left the road, crossed the sidewalk (striking the pedestrian), and crashed into a building on Meridian. We need to find a way to improve our roadways and transform how we move while we make changes to our overall land use pattern (which can't happen overnight). As a part of this, we need to ensure that we aren't losing funding for the CCA so we can afford to make these improvements for safer streets while maintaining enforcement levels which have a real impact on driver behavior.
I was just driving down 176th and if you ever drive on there early in the morning there’s zombies driving…… anyways this morning this Chevy pickup speeds by probably hit 70mph…… anyways a few moments after here comes a black early 2000’s gmc pickup hauling ass and you can hear it has headers but not a super loud exhaust… anyways he turns on his cherrys and pulls that other Chevy pickup over….. I didn’t know they had cars that old or like that undercover.
Hey yall!! I am looking to get married in september next year and i’m looking for venues in the puyallup area or near by preferably outdoors. I looked at Farm 12 but it was 10k and I simply cannot afford that lol. Any recommendations preferably 3-4k or less that are out doors for a small wedding ceremony. Thank you!!
Just heard yet another very loud explosion in the Summit area. This has happened several nights in a row now. Way too large to be fireworks, too close to be JBLM, and always seems to happen late in the evening.
Just a lot of activity of the questionable, non-shopping variety. Seems to be some very shady vibes, across the street from a Jr. Highschool.
I only go out where necessary to a few stores, and commute to work; Is this more or less the norm around a lot of South Hill now? Maybe it's the proximity to the school is my concern that I want to raise and discuss.
I used to shop at that Safeway and go the theaters when I went to Ballou.
