Welcome to r/Tacoma, The Subreddit of Destiny. Much like the city, this forum is a dusty old jewel of Puget Sound.
Some spend all day talking about how gritty it is, others simply think this is where trucks were invented, but Tacoma is a beautiful city filled with art, food, beer, music, nature and people. This subreddit is intended to be a reflection of such.
Welcome! You'll Like Tacoma.

Is there a good place to get Kraken gear in Tacoma, with a wide selection? I'd rather not drive all the way to Northgate to go to the big store. Thanks everyone!
The drive thru lines are always so freaking long and service is always so slow, frazzled, and incompetent there.
The Tacoma pet food bank is going to shut down on the 29th. https://www.kiro7.com/news/local/tacoma-pet-food-bank-scales-back-operations-due-demand/4OIQRINXK5EWFER4MEOZ24QKVU/
Hi! I’ve got a friend who is going through a rough time right now, and I’d love to drive her around looking at lights to try to bring some joy. Any recommendations for neighborhoods to check out? Thanks!
Where can I go to see Improv on a regular basis? I’m struggling to find a spot!
Just wondering if there are any local get togethers of people who like to write and share their stories. I have a collection of writing I’ve been doing for my own entertainment and am at the point where I’d like to get some feedback and hear what other local folk are creating.
Been craving fried chicken. What are some good local spots? And I want real fried chicken. Not tenders, strips, or a chicken sandwich. Looking for the real fried chicken
I opened a bag of Jaunito's chips I picked up from Winco and the smell of paint thinner smacked me in the face. The other day I had bag of Ore-Ida Hadhbrowns that was a frozen block of blue mold. I almost threw up when I opened it. Are these freak coincidences? It kills me because I want to support local business and they are employee owned, but I'm not willing to get sick over it. What do you guys think?
Hello, I’m looking for an affordable lawyer in the Tacoma/Pierce Co Washington area. I don’t qualify for assistance programs but who the hell has $15,000 randomly lying around either to pay for a lawyer, Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Help Please!
To start with, if this is how someone is learning about losing their pet, I'm very sorry. I'm posting because I think I would want to know what happened right away and people need to be aware of the danger. If you have a missing fluffy black cat in the general Old Town area, they might have fallen prey to a coyote this morning.
On my way to work around 8 am today I saw a coyote running across the street with a black cat at approximately N 30th St. an Oakes. The coyote ran in front of my car and was moving fast going down hill.
FYI to everyone, coyote activity in Tacoma is aparently on the rise. I'm not sure how good they are at getting over fences/etc. but they are an active danger to outdoor cats and small/medium dogs in areas accessible from the street.
Where is a good spot to donate baby clothes? I have so much and I'd really like to avoid taking it to places like goodwill/value village/ for profit thrift stores, and I'm trying to avoid kids kaboodle/ egg and I resale and places like that.
I know Tacoma pretty dang well, but I'm struggling to think of places my out of town folks can meet my kid (new-ish driver) for dinner.
They had originally though of E9 off 6th Ave, but I've been there at busy times...and sometimes it isn't the easiest if you don't know your surroundings or are aren't skilled at parallel parking.
So, where to eat if you've got the 70-ish folk meeting with a good but new driver?
Must be under 21 ok. North end preferred as the elder set is coming from Kitsap.
Somebody recently broke my hot and cold outdoor faucet (hose bib?) and I called the plumber who first installed it years ago. Today the bid was almost $1K, and they were also going to charge me $50 just to tell me that! Is this normal?
My current PCP who I've been seeing for 2 years is pretty old school and keeps referring to my ADHD as ADD (which is an outdated term for ADHD inattentive type) and keeps leaning on depressive symptoms as the main thing to treat and prescribe meds for despite 2 years of no real effectiveness. I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist 3 years ago and have a therapist I meet with regularly, but am seeking medication to round out my treatment.
Does anyone have good experiences with a PCP who is up on neurodivergence especially with adult women? I'm hoping for recommendatioms around the Tacoma/Lakewood area preferrably, but willing to go up to a 30-40 min drive away. TIA!
It's been awhile since anyone asked this topic...
I have my wedding band I would like to have modified to be more feminine (since I'm trans). It's obviously more involved than a resize or prong adjustment, but I have no idea beyond that what is really involved. It's not an expensive ring... We just got it from Kay's, but it means something. I just have problems wearing it now because it's masculine.
I couldn’t get close. Apartments on Orchard Street.
I already feel silly writing this, but here it is. We lived in the same place for seven years before my husband and I moved to Tacoma with our daughter (technically we’re still in the process of moving but hoping to be there by the end of the month). We loved our house but never made much effort to connect with our neighbors. We both lived in Seattle almost our whole lives and kind of just grew up with lots of friends, acquaintances and family. Now that we’re moving I’m realizing I don’t know anyone and I want to make connections, but I don’t know where to start. I don’t want to knock on anyone’s door with a pie (I think that would be disturbing to most people? Maybe?) but I can’t figure out how to meet people. Part of the struggle is that it’s so fucking cold out now, people are rarely just hanging out outside. If anyone has suggestions of where to start, let me know. Any meetup groups? Indoor spots to bring young kids and meet others?
Lovely day for a walk
Hey guys, so, I live in a cul de sac and there are some trees right behind me that don’t look so great. I think it could be city property. Anyone know exactly who to contact to get them looked at?
This is an absurdly specific question, I know. But if you have any Japanese 100 Yen stamps lying around, let me know if I can buy them and take them off your hands!
Hey y'all- trying to get in some extra practice (preferably on turf) in the evenings this winter, but am having a lot of trouble finding an open field that has lights.
It seems like most Metro Parks (like the brand new Peck facility) are only open if you have a reservation (which feels like they're cheating us out of being able to access a taxpayer paid project...). It's unclear to me if school fields are open to the public or not. I live in North Tacoma, between Old Town and UPS (I love using their turf when it seems open, but am unsure if I'll get yelled at...) but am willing to drive!
Googling hasn't been all that fruitful for me.
When I used to live in Renton I had a membership at the Renton Sailing Center. For $300 per year I could take out their sailboats whenever I wanted. It's an incredible deal. Way back in the day I had a similar membership at Sail Sandpoint in Seattle.
Does any place in Tacoma offer anything similar?

Did anyone feel a shake about five minutes ago in the North Slope neighborhood or is my house about to fall down....?
