I’m interested in importing older vehicles from South and Central America. I have no idea how to start and am curious about the legal requirements.
Have any of you done this? What has your experience been, what are the greatest challenges and what resources can you recommend?
I saw this 72 Heavy Chevy this past weekend at MCACN in Chicago. Current owner said it was crashed in 1972 with 8,200 miles on the clock. It was left to rot in a junkyard until this year. He says he will restore it and it will be at MCACN again. Would you fix it or pass?
Drove it to work today (35min commute each way) 20 min from home blew the heater core. Nothing major just fogged the windows and made a mess o the floor. After work I looped the heater hoses to bypass the core drove it to the car wash and gave it a good bath Door window seals leak doors slosh a bit but seem to be draining. Stopped at canadian tire to pick up a few things. Noticed front right break dripping when came out of store. Confirmed break fluid. Put a C-clamp on the soft line to get it home. Parked safe in the driveway till I get all new break parts and heater core Also I need to find a matching rim to the other 3 , my dog dish hub caps won't fit on the rear right one But she sure is pretty
70mph down the highway is no problem. Replaced points, wires plugs , new fuel filter and a bunch of coolant and break fluid.
So I went to the property owners house today and knocked on the door. A man answered the door and a brief exchange occurred. He said it was his mother that owned the property and that people ask about the car every now and then and he isn’t interested in selling since it’s not his, but his uncle’s. This uncle supposedly lives in Florida, key west I think he said. He said that they had been storing the car for him for the last few years which sounds to me like horseshit cause that think looks like it’s been abandoned for decades at least not years.
Not sure where if anywhere to go from here. Maybe try to contact the uncle, maybe theirs a way to claim it as apparently abandoned property, I’m not sure, I’ve never discovered a barn find before. Sorry to disappoint guys.
There are at least 10-15 old cars in there, many 60s and 70s models in complete shape, but very dusty. If you're local, I'll drop a pin and maybe you can contact the owner.
No new pics yet, was working on getting it running today to no avail. Cannot for the llife of me get spark. I am getting the proper boltage everywhere have cleaned the points, my next step is to get new wires and a coil. May even put new points into it. The wires definitely need replaced, the coil is probably still good but it's a cheap part and easy elimination of issue. The points had corrosion on them and bi didn't look at the advance/retard plates yet but I'm sure there is correction there as well
