Attending a wedding in the French Quarter in March.
Looking for some help with inspo/styles/keywords for a full length dress. I want to wear something that will fit the NOLA location and want to wear something that isnt just "on trend" but honors the history! They will be doing a second line.
Really hoping to have fun with the look! Thank you
Hi, I'm thinking about taking advantage of the time off around Christmas and New Years, but am not into Christmas itself. Is it possible to get around NO in that time period without getting swept up in Christmas? Do all the buskers and other musicians start playing lots of Christmas music, etc.?
Any good craft fairs in the area? Looking to buy handmade gifts this year :)
Anyone know which shell station in Jefferson parish, near elmwood, that has fake pee? I’m fairly certain it was either on Jefferson Hwy or elmwood.
Please help! I need some before 11:00 tomorrow morning! ☺️ thank you
I'll be arriving on the Sunset Limited around 10ish on a weekday. Is it safe to walk to nearby hotels around where the station is?
tia
Okay so I just moved here and I am confused by making left turns on streets with boulevards. They have the double stop light, so do I need to wait in the middle until it turns green? or just wait until it’s clear?
Ive seen people do both and I am confused :/ I promise that I am a good driver I’ve just never seen this kind of stoplight before lol
I’m making a gumbo later today and I’m going to sear the chicken and andouille in batches first. Should I make the roux with the fond in the pot, or deglaze with the stock that I’ll be adding back in later?
Hi all! I'll be in NOLA in Dec and have looked at some different tasting menus, ultimately deciding I'd rather put together my own "tasting menu" of sorts to try many different restaurants. The idea is we will have one course at different restaurants. Starting with an appetizer here, main course there, etc.
What would be your ideal restaurants for drinks, appetizer, main course, dessert, and whatever else?!
Edited to add: The intention is to go to places that don't need a reservation or if they do, ask permission first. Not necessarily looking for fancy just yummy!
Moving there in the new year, have always lived in the Northeast, just wondering if real Christmas trees are readily available and not mega expensive there? TIA!
my partner and i are coming down for NYE and i was hoping to see if any bands we like will be in town during that time. i know gasa gasa has permanently closed - are there any venues in greater NOLA that have a similar vibe? thx in advance!
Hi, so I’m solo traveling cross country this winter. I’ll be in New Orleans early January for 2 days and will be staying at the India house hostel.
Is it safe to park my car around there? I’m not sure if I have any other choices. I’ll try not to bring anything valuable with me but I’ll be out for a good month so I will have stuff.
I drive a Honda btw. It’s like 15 years old and doesn’t look new or anything but it’s not a horrible looking car.
We're coming into the Julia St. terminal around 9AM and would like to see The French Quarter and the #1 St. Louis Cemetery. Is it best to head out to cemetery tour and return to French Quarter or visit the French Quarter and then go to the Cemetery Tour? Thinking it will be most crowded early in the day.
Hello! I’m planning my first ever solo trip, I’m 25(F) and I’m looking to stay at a hotel in the French Quarter where I can people watch from a (private) balcony but I do not want to stay along Bourbon St. seeing the comments on the attached reddit post from a year ago.
I haven’t planned out my itinerary yet but I would like to go sightseeing, try out new food and get some beignets, and just overall explore.
I’ll be in NOLA for two full days.
Please please drop your hotel recommendations and places I should check out!
Thank you so much in advance!! :))
30 y /o couple celebrating anniversary in NOLA. Looking to eat, drink, eat, tours, eat, etc. Not interested in party scene but more day drinking, sightseeing, and great restaurants. Stuck between the following hotels:
Hotel Peter & Paul
Pontchartrain
Hotel Saint Vincent
Place d'Armes
Hotel Provincial
Budget is flexible but we really value a good ~vibe~, walkability (i.e. nearby coffee, bars, restaurants, sightseeing) and cleanliness. Onsite bar is always a plus.
Feel free to drop any restaurant recs too!
Hi folks! We’re really looking forward to our first visit to New Orleans and are landing at 10pm on 12/25. Any recommendations for spots that may be serving food late that night? Will be staying at the W in the French Quarter (will call them and find out whether they will have anything on offer). I’ve seen The Will & The Way suggested as they serve food late but not sure about Christmas Day. Thanks!
A buddy of mine and I are going to Nola tonight to do some bar hopping on bourbon st. We where both wanting to know if there is any stuff going on tonight we should check out.
Eloping in New Olreans next month, on a weeknight, and bringing 3 guests who have never visited before. They're quite jazzed about it. I need to choose where to go for dinner after our little ceremony, but I'm spinning in circles at this point.
I want to treat our guests to something that feels special without feeling too far from their midwestern comfort zone (considering price, varied food preferences, and ambiance, though we will arrive still dressed in our tuxes & gowns), and has as much of a classic Old Guard or very New Orleans restaurant experience as possible. My personal favorites, Commander's and Brennan's, are not in the running this time.
Of these, which would you choose to bring your first-time guests for a lovely celebration dinner?
Hi all, looking for recommendations for restaurants that accept reservations and are open on Christmas day. Struggling to find a spot for the family to celebrate while we're in town. Welcome any recommendations and thanks in advance!
I’ve been to many of the shops up and down bourbon st but most of them seem pretty touristy, looking for some voodoo dolls that are more authentic and handmade. Thanks
Good afternoon me and my wife are going to be taking my kids to the celebration in the oaks this weekend and it will be the first time for us all. I live not far from New Orleans but have never really visited the city. I was wondering if I could get some other recommendations that’s family friendly to visit and sights to see with the family while I’m in town, we would greatly appreciate it.
Please I need y’all’s help and please don’t suggest the italian pie or I’ll get murdered.
Flying in Thursday after 7pm and staying near Canal and Bourbon. Was hoping to go to the Bourbon House for their delicious Bourbon milkshake and some dinner, but seeing how they close at 9pm, there's no way we're making that in time.
So now we're thinking maybe Pier 424 or Oceana Grill but open to suggestions. Looking for something local/cajun/creole (really anything I can't find in central Illinois) plus a few drinks to unwind before crashing at the rental. Something within walking distance of Canal and Bourbon where the staff isn't annoyed with the out-of-town-er ordering food at 10pm lol
Has anyone stayed in an AirBnB with a large group (10 people) and had a great experience? If so would love to know which place you booked. Also in general, would love any tips on WHERE we should stay in the city - want to be in a good neighborhood and somewhere central where we don't have to spend all weekend ubering to our destinations. Any neighborhood suggestions? Itinerary is all the classic stuff you'd expect from a bachelorette party!
Hey all - this group has been great as my wife and I have planned a three-day trip next week. We’ve taken recommendations for restaurants and tours, and we’re excited to visit. We’d love feedback on our current reservations:
Breakfasts: Ruby Slipper & Cafe Du Monde
Lunch: Gris-Gris
Dinners: Galatois & Ralph’s
Tours: FQ w/ Two Chicks & Walking with Devils - Hottest Hell
Other: Chagall Exhibit at MS Rau & Market Street Shopping & Frenchman’s St. Live Jazz
We are looking for suggestions for transportation for our upcoming wedding in New Orleans. Specifically, we are looking for end of the night transportation from Southern Oaks to a central location closer to the quarter. All of the coach buses are quoting us for $1000-2000 for one bus with a minimum of 4 hours booked, and we will need more than one. We don't need a bus for that long and 4 hours won't cover transportation to and from for our guests so there would be no additional benefit. We would prefer to cover the transportation for only the end of the night. We're considering a bus and an Uber promo code but we're unsure how surge pricing will be around that time and if it's worth it to even add the Uber option. If anyone has any advice on companies to reach out to or can share how they covered transportation from this or any other venue, we are open to suggestions. Thank you!
Having difficulty getting an answer from the hotel on this - if staying Saturday night ahead of a Saints game, do the parking rates for valet and the adjacent self-parking garage increase from what they normally are? Any other tips to know for staying there ahead of a game are appreciated. Thanks!
Anyone know where Tina is?😈
Any tips on the best place to go for a NYE Party? There are a lot of choices and don't mind spending money. Two years ago, The Domino had a GREAT NYE party. Something in the bywater area would be fun. Anybody?
