Just wrapped up our 4th annual fishing trip to New Orleans. Just wanted to thank the locals for another awesome trip. We got out of town yesterday afternoon, wow, what a wet day. Through the week we ate at Mister Mao, atchafalaya, slap burger, saj, pizza Dominica, bear cat, La boulangerie, pomelo, Domillise’s, and Guys. All of them were excellent and I’d recommend all of them to anybody visiting the area. We also went and saw the zoo and the aquarium.
Visiting for the first time next month, I've scoured this sub for recommendations on things to do and places to eat, so thanks for all the good info! I'm originally from the Gulf but haven't lived here in almost 20 years, and what I really miss is fried crawfish. I saw that Acme has some, but looking for any other recs that you know of. Staying near the French Quarter. Thanks!
edit:: oh goodness I didn't expect this to be so controversial. Battered fried tails is what I mean, not fresh crawfish like in a boil.
I am hosting a party for a number of people from across the country in New Orleans and was interested in hosting a dinner at Muriel’s. We really loved the space and thought the haunted history was interesting and uniquely NOLA for our visitors. It was also in our budget. However, I noticed the following text on the website that made me question having the event there:
Some locals believe that this structure used to hold slaves when they came off the boats, before going up for auction. Although Muriel’s carriageway dates back to the late 1700’s, and some clairvoyants say that many troubled spirits reside here, this area was said to be where servants were housed in the evening.
I understand Muriel's has very different owners now and this is the history of this building, as well as many others in the city. I’m curious to get locals take on this - I feel uneasy about it being advertised on the website, as it seems the restaurant may be trying to profit by advertising the turmoil and trauma these people endured in the space.
Is there a subreddit about the real creepy shit that goes on down there? I want to know what legends there are.m, what people have witnessed, and anything creepy. We always see it in horror movies and I’m curious if there is a real supernatural culture? Are the swamps creepy?
Thanks so much!
So I know where to go when I want to throw some back. I’m sure a lot of places are touristy and pricey
Hello everyone, me and my husband will be visiting in December and trying to find hotel options close to the French quarter (safe for night walking/street car distance)… between indigo and home wood suites which would you recommend?? I’m open to anything similar..
Hey - me and my wife (both 30s) are in town for 1 night. Where should we go, what should we do, what’s the best eats/drinks/scenes? Voodoo/Halloween fun bonus
Any recommendations appreciated.
Hi! My partner and are moving down there in the new year. I’m looking to line up some set design jobs for film/TV/music videos, whatever it may be, in advance if possible. Where should I look to start making connections/get a foot in the door?
Is it worth doing the VIP for the post parade party at Generation Hall?
I was planning on attending a trip in a few weeks but I’ve heard the Halloween parade isn’t exactly all that
Would you all say it’s worth it?
Hello all.
We are a family (Kids aged 8 and 6) of four from England and are visiting New Orleans for the first time in the last week of October.
We were hoping to go to a sports game , but unfortunately there are no professional games on while we are there .
I noticed they have High School football at City Park and was wondering if it would be a good evening out us ? We know sweet FA about American Football , but it’s quite different to what we have back home and always looks good fun on American films/TV.
Do they get big crowds in the stadiums ?
Also , would a family of tourists from England appear as total oddballs for watching school kids playing when we have no affiliation whatsoever ?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
visiting new orleans this weekend for my birthday, was hoping to get to see some local bands perform tonight, who do y’all like and where can i see them?
Are there any fun boardgame cafes in town? I saw the Rook Cafe mentioned last year. Is it still a good choice?
Неу, I'll be in NOLA in November and have a Saturday night to spare. Can anyone recommend venues or local bands to look at for good music? I'd like something similar to Trombone Shorty, so strong brass and rather modern. I am not opposed to traditional old school jazz, just lately more in the mood for something like what I am describing. Thank you!
Hey NOLA friends! Seeking best bars with pool tables near Harahan or just anywhere in the city in decent areas. Doesn’t have to be bougie but would prefer to not get murdered. I prefer dive bars esp ones where they have metal on the jukebox
Here til 10/10. I shoot pretty well but not a pro. I like straight 8 not ball in hand BS.
Lmk of any good spots. Requirements = tables and a juke box. Cherry on top = metal on the jukebox, indoor smoking allowed, chill environment
(36m here traveling for work, don’t drink and don’t gamble. Doubles is always cool too)
Hello everyone I am making a guys trip to New Orleans. I am looking into booking an Air Boat or Swamp tour. Not sure if they allow you to feed wild life anymore, but felt to ask since it was a bucket list thing to check off while I’m there.
Any suggestions/ratings on best ones out there?
From Lafourche and coming to Gretna Fest for the first time. What’s the parking situation like and do you have advice/suggestions? I’m aware of the on-site garage and the buses from Oakwood/Manhattan. Besides the ferry, are those the only options?
Does anyone know of anywhere I can take my dog and do laundry? Checkpoint Charlie's shut their Laundry down.
Looking for recommendations for venues for a Halloween welcome party in the FQ. Getting married on November 1, 2025 so the welcome party the night before would be on actual Halloween. Spooky vibes a plus but not required. Ideally would be a bar (or restaurant space where people can stand around and socialize cocktail-style)
Coming to town and want to see that chicken avalanche I read about and wanna try ALL the sides, not just one! :)
Hi! My friend and I are visiting for the first time for Halloween. What are some fun things for 2 thirty something women to do that are off the beaten path? Yes I read the FAQs! Just want to know the best bars for being dressed up and dancing :) also what places must we eat at? thank you!
Please recommend brunch spots for a Tuesday. Thanks!
I’m headed to NOLA for a conference here pretty soon and am dying for a legit hurricane while I’m in town. Preferably it would be made with real fruit juice (hello passion fruit!) and not a sugary mix. I know Pat O’Brians is the OG but I’d like something less akin to koolaid. Any recommendations???
I was there about 9 or 10yrs ago and am trying to remember the name of a bar I spent some (apparently too much) time in. Any help is appreciated!
Vague clues: -It was not in the French Quarter -Possibly lower garden district -Large and fairly wide with several rooms, bars, and two or three levels -Upon entering, I think there were tables/chairs to the right, bar on the left -Balcony for daytime dining on the right hand side of the building -Unfinished wood plank floors (I think…) -It had a neighborhood feel, down to earth, loud conversation, and casual but not a dive -There was an impressive whisky/bourbon list (upstairs bar)—a very kind stranger was buying me and my friends shots of Pappy Van Winkle -I could be very wrong but I think it wasn’t too far from Surrey’s
I realize there’s a lot of uncertainty in these descriptions but I’ve been looking and researching and nothing yet. I genuinely appreciate any leads. Thanks in advance!
My husband and I both have the week between Christmas and new year off and we want to go visit NOLA for the first time. We would probably go Dec 26-30th give or take a day either at the beginning or end. I’d love to get some suggestions on things we should do during that time! We love going out to cocktail bars and nice dinners and coffee shops. We also love to do activities and do “experiences” so if theres anything super unique we should do I’d love to know!!
A friend of mine loves jazz, plays the sax, and gets a huge kick outta busking. We're celebrating a bachelor party near Frenchmen street next Saturday, and I was looking to get in touch with any local musicians who can loan a (preferably alto) Sax for an hour on Saturday afternoon (October 12th).
Anyone got the low-down on local musicians or rentals that could accommodate this (strange) request?
Visiting soon, usually do some nice dinners, tours, bars, the usual. Going to redo my previously blown marriage proposal around the 10th anniv. She doesn’t like public proposals, the whole park thing isn’t really for me. Can’t think of anywhere private. Thinking of just getting a more private table at dinner and doing a little speech and giving her a ring upgrade-don’t think one knee is necessary again. Curious on any other places or ideas do spice up my idea… TIA.
…for its extremely powerful exhibit on the history of incarceration in New Orleans/Louisiana. Running through the end of January, this is a must-see for locals and tourists alike, and shines an uncomfortable light on a deeply shameful part of Louisiana’s past and present. I brought three out-of-town guests there today and they were all very moved by it. I had already been aware of the broad strokes of the fact that “slavery never ended” in parts of this country, but this was very specifically New Orleans- and Louisiana-based, and it’s just appalling and eye-opening. Even if you think you know the history, it’s worth seeing—and if you don’t, please go, bring your friends and guests, and please vote.
HNOC is really one of the best museums in this state. They mount very well-conceived and well-executed exhibitions. Kudos to them.
Hey y'all! I'm going to be in town Saturday with my wife and 7 year old daughter. Do you recommend any kid friendly lunch spots where we can catch a little college football on TV? She's quiet and well behaved.
We have visited the city multiple times, but dont normally have our kid with us. So really any recommendations for kid friendly activities would be helpful. We are only going to be in town for 24ish hrs. I was thinking about maybe hitting up the bug museum and the zoo since its not crazy hot.
Hey everyone,
Im going to Mardi Gras in 2025 with a group of 6-10 people. I was wondering what are the best places for us to stay at. Ideally, i would like one big place but I know that might not be feasible. Any hotel suites that we might be able to do?
Thanks
