Mens sana in corpore sano: Sunday NB fitness check-in
(I checked the rules and didn’t find anything against this - if I missed anything please delete, and my apologies)
Physical activities used to be a big part of a trad lifestyle, and something I’ve gotten increasingly interested in these last few years. I figured there might be others interested in sharing what it is that you do to make sure your coat, shirt and trousers sizes stay the same as the decades go on.
I’ve been on a four day weightlifting regime for about a year now, mostly focused on keeping what muscle I’ve got left as I’m nearing 40. Lots of free weights, some body weight - and probably not enough cardio, if I’m honest.
I like the solitary nature of it as well as the fact that I can work around my busy work schedule. I don’t need to meet with others at a particular hour - whenever I have 60-70 minutes, I go in, throw weight around, get out again.
So what’s everybody’s strategy to combat Father Time, and how’s it going for you?

Alternative garment to layer over OCBD
Hey everyone,
I’m on the hunt for an intermediate layer to wear over my oxford cloth button-down and under different jackets (rain, down, wind) depending on the weather. I’m after something specific that I can’t seem to find. Here’s the breakdown:
- Material: Light, soft, breathable 100% cotton for indoor use. Casual, light stretch. For example piqué or jersey knit
- Fit and Feel: Should be easy to take on or off. I want roomy sleeves with loose, open cuffs that aren’t restricting or tight. Something that “sways” rather than hugs.
- Neckline: Open and wide, without any collar to clash with the OCBD’s. I find one collar is enough. Button placket on chest is welcome.
- Style: Slouchy, relaxed, with a good drape but still smart/tasteful
I’ve looked around, but here’s what I’ve ruled out so far:
- Blazers: Too structured, with the lapels, canvasing, pockets and cuff buttons
- Sweaters (like Shetland): I do not want tight cuffs
- Work Shirts: Usually too stiff for office/indoor comfort.
- Overshirts: One shirt is enough
- Sweatshirts and Rugby Shirts: Too tight at the neck and cuffs, and collar
- French Fisherman Smocks: Too much like outerwear and often a bit stiff.
- Vintage Umbro Drill Tops (a la Liam Gallagher): Nice roomy sleeves, but too sporty and still tight cuffs
Am I asking for the impossible? Anyone know of a garment that might fit the bill? Or has anyone gone the custom route for something similar? I feel like this could be a great piece for layering without bulk or restriction.

Casantlatic fall collection
Casantlatic just dropped their new fall collection. Looks great to me, especially excited about the flannel pants. Love their drapes and high rise trousers.
Curious about the quality though. I only have two cotton chinos and the fit is great, but a step down in quality from Berg&Berg.
What do you guys think?
