What are your theories as to why Military Surplus experienced such a spike upward in price?

My theory has to do with the popularity of WWII games in the 2000s.

One thing ive noticed about people who want guns from games, is that they actually have a hard time differenciating the guns. Recently, I brought my Mas36 to a gun show and I hear a group of kids say, "Yo, that guy has the Soviet Sniper Rifle." Another, more modern example would be those people who walk in asking for the, "Fortnite Scar,"

So, since a lot of the old WWII games, notably Call of Duty, mostly focused on the European Theater from the perspective of American GIs, and occasionally the Russain Conscript practicing tossing grenades with Potatoes, and the added benefit of being able to pick up and use German guns coupled with the global sucess of said games, you now have a lot of gamers wanting to have those same guns they were able to use.

Now, my theory is that the people selling those guns saw how inexperienced these gamers were and realized that they could baisically slap any price they wanted on these guns and they would be none the wiser. This lead to others doing the same thing and eventually it started spreading to the other military guns that looked similar, baisically every mauser was a k98 now, even if it was a yugo or vz24 becuase they wouldn't know the difference.

This is why I think that Milsurp, most notably the M1 Garand, K98, 1911, Luger, SVT, and M1 Carbine have way bigger leap fowards in price ammount than other WWII rifles. Im not yet fully sure how other military surplus rifles got their jump in price, but I still think its related to the initial jump in price from the prominent stars of the early WWII games.

Anyways, what do you guys think caused the huge leap in Milsurp price?

Clarity on moving milsurp rifles from Canada to USA (permanently).

Hi all, I plan on moving to the U.S from Canada (as a permanent resident alien). Is there any hope for me to bring my collection with me? For added context, all my items are over 50 years old. They are military surplus, does that waive their eligibility to be C&R? I also refuse to import them if they will be mutilated with hideous import markings. If eligible, I will go so far as to obtain my own FFL just to make it possible & avoid the import markings. Any information is greatly appreciated.

    Oof

Must have happened the last time I went shooting and miraculously didn’t notice somehow. Don’t have the chunk that flew off, any recommendations for a cheap “fix?”

    FARC

Got some of those Brazilian pouches from Apex. Found this on the inside of one of them. Others have names as well.

I’m guessing these were traded in when FARC split apart and now we’re finally surplused out. Neat piece of history.

Debating on cleaning up the dirt on top of the pen inked name to see it better.

Anyone have any clever ideas on how I could use this Swiss rucksack without its matching field jacket?

Picked up a TAZ 57 rucksack from AP since it was on clearance (along with a Slovenian field shirt and East German web belt since they too were on clearance and I’ve been trying to acquire random pieces of milsurp for fun) and while I know that the actual field jacket has the proper hooks for it, was wondering if anyone had some clever ideas on how I could use the rucksack without it. I would prefer something that doesn’t require stitching into the bag, but I’m not really thinking of another way to make the bag able to be used independently.

    8mm Lebel Ammunition Questions

So I'm looking into acquiring an M93 Lebel and have some questions regarding what is safe to shoot and what isn't. One specific M93 that I am looking at is lacking its 'Balle N' Markings. From the research I've done I've found that Balle N marked Lebels are safe to shoot all types of 8mm Lebel, and the Lebels lacking the Balle N markings cannot shoot Balle N rounds, which has the dark red band on its neck.

    1. Why exactly the Balle N is unsafe to shoot in unmarked Lebels? I've seen conflicting info that its because of the bullet grain or because the jacket is too wide for the unmarked barrels.
    2. I've found on the 8mm Lebel Wikipedia page that there is Balle T and Balle P, at a glance they all look identical to Balle N and I was wondering if they also wont work in an unmarked Lebel.
    3. Are consumer made 8mm Lebel safe to shoot in an unmarked Lebel? Are they copies of the Balle N or one of the other types of 8mm Lebel? I've found some places that sell 8mm Lebel on AmmoSeek and they don't specify the exact type of round.
