Violating the rollowing rules will result in post removal, and likely a ban:

  1. All posts must have a descriptive title

  2. Image submissions require a detailed comment describing them, or they will be deleted

  3. Self posts require details in the post body. One-sentence questions will be deleted.

  4. Posts showing us your single box of ammo will be deleted. Nobody cares. Post it with a rifle, and talk about the rifle.

  5. Be kind to one another. Insults will not be tolerated, and bans will be incoming.

  6. No firearms transactions or free estimates of any kind on this sub. You're permitted to do a price-check on an accessory, but DO NOT post asking what your rifle is worth, it'll be deleted. If that comes in up conversation, that's another thing.

  7. No politics of any kind. Also, no shilling for Rhodesia.

  8. No open-ended questions (i.e., "What do you think is the best rifle ever?"

  9. No links to contests, guns or accessories for sale, political posts, opinion blogs, etc. We are here to talk about old-ass British rifles and old-ass British rifle accessories. Webleys and the like can stay, I suppose.

  10. No Insta-style drive-by karma farms with Enfield cartoons. Posts must center around a real-ass rifle. No art without mod approval. No memes, period.

1917 Lithgow 'Marksman' SMLE rifle

Here's a close look at a 1917 SMLE with a fascinating history. It came very close to destruction this year before being rescued, to be tidied up and displayed.

Newbie No.1 Mk3 Question - Pics included

Hi all, thanks in advance.

I'm currently in the process of acquiring my first firearm, and need a little help. My interest is primarily in Military Surplus rifles, in this case I'm looking for a Lee Enfield.

I'm flexible on the variant but I do like the No.1 MK3's. A guy local to me just so happens to have one for sale, and sent me over some pictures. The problem is, I'm not entirely sure on the value so wanted to get some opinions.

He has described the bore as "great", and I'll be able to confirm that when I have a look at it in person later this week. It's a bit beat up, 2 cracks visible in the photos. Asking Price is $750 CAD

Lost Cause?

I got this 1909 No.1 MkIII basically free when I bought a (sadly bubba’d) Savage made US Property marked No.4 MkI, and I’m not sure what to do with it. It’s pretty ratty, the barrel is toast, the stock is trash, the rear sight was taken off, and the charger bridge was chopped and the receiver was tapped to fit a peep sight. This thing doesn’t seem worth it to restore, and I’m not sure how I would even go about putting a new charger bridge on it. Is it too far gone? Would it be sacrilege for me to bore out the barrel to use as a .410 and/or shave the rest of the charger bridge off and refinish it? I’m not incredibly well versed in Enfields so any input is appreciated.

Enfield mag with 410 shells. All four feed just fine and smooth like normal rifle rounds.

Prestigious Wood Stocks question

I just purchased a sporterized 1917 SMLE No. 1 Mk III*, and I am trying to track down some furniture. I found PWS and am having trouble finding out if their Mk III stock set would be appropriate. I emailed and asked and they said it would be so, but upon looking at their customer photos and watching videos about their stocks it seems as if they are all Mk III, not MkIII* as they claimed in their response. Does anyone have any experience with them?
