Hear me out for a moment!
Like many others, I was disappointed in the outcome and sweep that happened last week. It shouldn't be a surprise had I kept my eyes open, but I was surprised. I watch the show constantly and know what the message is.
Now, I feel like I have been solidly sitting in the middle of an echo chamber. Yes, this is comedy, but I felt that Colbert hasn't kept the democratic in check and has spent far too much time and effort making sure Trump looked ridiculous (Trump deserves it). However, the show is quite obviously echoing the left wing.
Do you not feel like the show should be critical of ALL politicians and garbage policy? The democratic party has failed to listen and has failed to speak to so many Americans. The outcome is tragic. I wish the same scrutiny could have been imposed on the left.
I'm kind of over the part where Trump is being made fun of constantly. He is a buffoon, but if the show continues to make this a focus, then I feel like the joke is on us.
What do you think? Is it time to out ALL politicians under fire? Should the show be presenting less of an echoed message and more of what is wrong with all of politics?
The country clearly felt strongly about how badly things are going. Am I crazy to be disappointed in the show (yes I get it is satire)?
PS I've been a fan of Colbert since he first showed up on the Daily Show with Stewart. This isn't supposed to be a burn. It is a discussion.

Stephen has did a great show on Wednesday, not shirking from how terrible the result was and how bad Trump will be.
I have to think though that his position is precarious. CBS has new owners and is dependent on its public licence to be one of the US’ major broadcasters. He is on its air 4 nights a week unsparingly criticising the upcoming President and his administration.
As you all know this is a historically unusual thing. Carson, Leno etc were very careful not to seem partisan. Trump is uniquely awful so of course I think it’s justified - but it’s an easy argument for opponents to take that Colbert is out of line as they of course maintain that Trump is entirely normal and they can even now say that the country largely agrees.
Jeff Bezos saw the writing on the wall and (shamefully imo) decided to peremptorily “get in line” and mute the Washington Post’s advocacy for Harris. I fear that the CBS’ new corporate bosses may very likely have the same impulses and try and shuffle Colbert off stage soon.
I’m confident that the ratings for the show will go up though - as they did before and the show makes a lot of money, so maybe as a commercial decision they might stand firm for now?
Trump seems to have won even bigger than before so the effect of Colbert’ work( and the other Late Night hosts to a lesser degree) on his popularity can be said to be not a real threat. That won’t satisfy the thin skinned Trump though, and him lashing out and threatening CBS seems an inevitability. What happens then, when CBS starts to fear their hugely valuable licence might be in jeopardy?
In the other authoritarian countries that Trump admires - Hungary Russia etc - this is what happened. To truly take control the regimes’ most crucial move was blunting the media’s criticism. Remember Bassem Youssef from Egypt? He lives in the US now.
Would love to hear others thoughts on this - a hairy time ahead for sure anyway

Since Trump won in a surprisingly HUGE comeback, I hope Colberts cartoon called Our Cartoon President will have season four coming out in 2025, but with Mike Pence not in it, instead being replaced by J.D. Vance, Trumps NEW vice president.
We have priority tickets and are hoping to get clarification from someone who has been to the show.
The check-in time is from 2:30-3:45. Does a priority ticket mean we can show up any time during that window and we're guaranteed a seat? Or should we still get there toward the early end to ensure we get in? Once checked in, are we let inside? Or are we going to be waiting inside?
For the love of all thats holy... the only light in this democracy perforation is the possibility that we get more "cartoon president". Kept me sane last time. Again pls.
Just starting by saying I don’t him to, I’m as Democrat as they come, and I’ll happily watch the show for as long as he does it. But I can see how the last decade of Trump has worn him down, even more so than the other late show hosts. He refused to mention him by name after Biden was sworn in, and opted out of doing an election show this year. He’s spoken many times about how much he hates talking about him, doing the impression etc…
Now, we’re looking down the barrel of four more years of Trump. I’m not sure Stephen has it in him. I wouldn’t be shocked if he threw in the towel, or at least changed the format of the show.

Does anyone else find all the jokes late night hosts are making about Trump not loving his son Eric to be more sad than funny? I’ve loved Stephen for years but this line of jokes just feels cruel.
