I love this Story. A Feud Ending Advertisement Hawked the wrong project.

David Letrerman tells a great story here and the extra bits from Oprah really solidify how wild this moment truly was.

Stupid human tricks

Is there a list anywhere of people who did a stupid human tricks? I could swear my cousin was on but can't find a list. I think he chugged a gallon of milk.

I can't ask him myself for reasons, but I'm pretty sure it's not my imagination!

Best ever Late Show surprise…

Like a lot of us, I was (and remain) devoted fan of Letterman and watched Late Show regularly during its run, particularly in the decade in which it premiered, the 90’s. Imagine my surprise one night during an airing when my college alum friend, with whom I’d shared road trips between the college town and my hometown on several occasions, was featured on the show.
In true Dave fashion, the appearance stemmed from messing around with CBS intern interview candidates, recorded earlier. But Dave actually ended up inviting my friend to appear live on the show, performing onstage with Nathan Lane and Broadway dancers in full show-tune form….ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you Todd Stevens (February, 1997) 😂

Ceiling falling skit

New here to the group and hoping someone can help.

I recall an very old episode (late 80’s) of Letterman where he was interviewing someone (can remember the guest) but they commented on the ceiling or beam supports above his desk looked weak and then they crashed down smashing his desk.

Something along those lines. Does anyone recall that or remember? Any YouTube videos that might be out there of it?

Thanks in advance.

What episode(s) featured a clip of Schwarzenegger "tutoring" english via strawberries?

I'd like to know what episode(s) of Late Night (or possibly Late Show, but I don't think so?) featured clips of Arnold Schwarzenegger feeding a pretty (¿French?) lady strawberries in the course of her "english tutoring"/instruction...

Arnold would place one strawberry at her lips, and say "Bite" in a very thick accent. This was cracking Dave up.

To my recollection, this clip was shown multiple times across more than one episode, but I can't figure out 1) which episodes, nor 2) what film is being referenced?

Can anyone here please help?

What happened to Mujibur and Sirajul?

Does anyone know what happened to Mujibur and Sirajul?

I know that the store where they worked, K & L Rock America, closed in 2003 and Dave basically said good bye but can't find any info online about what happened to them after that or where they are today.

Thanks

Gourds Falling From the Ceiling - Paul Shaffer

Greetings to all!

I've been watching a lot of Letterman on YouTube lately and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

I was an avid viewer of the show during the NBC era especially, and one very powerful memory I have is of an autumnal episode in which Paul (prompted by Dave's remarks about the fall) begins maniacally chanting about his love of gourds. His passionate interest in the subject is so intense that it summons a cascade of vegetable matter from the ceiling.

I can't seem to find a clip of this one - anyone else remember it? I think it would have had to have been from the fall of 1990 or 1991.

letterman - cold mountain - “if you need help, here I am”

Never done this before, but I’m wondering if anyone knows how to find a clip of when Dave used to have that button on his desk he would hit and it would just play the audio of Rene Zellweger in Cold Mountain saying, “if you need help, here I am!”
I think of it from time to time and can’t find anything.

Can’t stop it with a train?

Hi, all. I’m trying to find the origin of something Dave used to occasionally say:

Can't start it with a [something] Can't stop it with a train

I always assumed it was a song lyric about love, but I’ve never been successful in finding it. Help the ol’ girl out? Preesh!

Where can I watch episodes of Late Show with David Letterman?

I often become interested in watching a specific interview he’s done and a lot of the time, YouTube and other websites don’t have it. I’ve been trying to find a website that has more (or all) of his episodes available, for a very long time now. I know this is a long shot, but there has to be something. Maybe a streaming service I’m not aware of? Anything?

It’s upsetting that he’s had arguably the best celebrity interviews of any late night host, and it’s so difficult to watch them.

Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Paul Shaffer guest hosting?

According to Paul's wikipedia:

Shaffer guest-hosted the show four times when Letterman was unavailable: February 9 and 11, 2000, during Letterman's recovery from his quintuple heart bypass surgery; March 24, 2003, when Letterman was suffering from shingles; and January 19, 2005, when Letterman went to receive an award for his racing team's victory in the 2004 Indianapolis 500.

I can't find clips of these shows online -- does anyone remember what they were like? Did Paul sit at the desk and interview guests? Did he do a monologue? Was it a different kind of show?

Young Frankenstein clip on The Late Show?

Hi. Did Dave like to use a clip from Young Frankenstein? I came across the clip where Gene Wilder yells, "What's the matter with you people? I was joking! Don't you know a joke when you hear one? HA HA HA HA!!" and it seemed super familiar to me (moreso than the rest of the movie, which I've seen several times, but not in recent years), and I though maybe it had been a clip they used on The Late Show.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZdUO3fizDg&t=74s

If it's not from The Late Show, can you think of another show that did use it?

Thanks!

If I can be serious for a moment (and I feel that I can) - Dave Lines

I recently said this at dinner and it's straight from David Letterman's mouth. Is there anything you find yourself saying?

When I was younger I think I adopted quite a bit from Dave that's worn off over time (I stopped calling all drinks beverages, for example), but I still will occasionally pronounce "statistics" as "saaaatistics" and pull out a "there is no off position to the genius switch," as well as Are ya like me?" and "I do and do and do for you and this is the thanks I get?"

Curious what others picked up that stuck.

I'm looking for a clip of Letterman where they sent the cast of CATS into a restaurant and nobody noticed, so they sent Moses in. I think Biff was the guy on scene. Anybody know what I can search for or where to find it?
