PC games are cheaper thanks to Steam, GOG, and Humble Bundle
PCs can emulate nearly every console platform ever made... and thanks to ROMs, for free.
Rule #1 You may not harass or harm other users.
Rule #2 No spam/referral/advertising links.
Rule #3 Please tag your post if applicable!
Rule #4 Comments that are non-constructive, sarcastic, or rude will probably be removed. This includes anything that calls anyone a peasant! You can call yourself a peasant if you wish, though.
Rule #5 This is NOT a humor subreddit! Try /r/PCMasterRace instead!
Guideline #1 This subreddit is for people who want to upgrade or are in the midst of transitioning from console to PC but don't know where to start. Understand that.
Guideline #2 Don't call someone a peasant or otherwise belittle them. You're here to help them, not anger them or scare them away. PC gaming may be superior to console gaming, but that does not make you superior to a console gamer.
Guideline #3 If you encounter someone who wants help, point them here. Not only will they get the direction they need, but many others needing and even offering the same direction can funnel in through your comment.

I’m looking at some of these models as possible options as examples:
HP EliteDesk 800 Tower Core i7 4770 3.4GHz 16GB RAM 500GB + 240GB SSD
Dell i5 Desktop Computer Up to 16GB RAM 1TB SSD DVD WIFI Windows 10 Pro
DELL OptiPlex Desktop Computer i7-7700 16GB DDR4 1TB NVMe SSD 2TB WiFi Win10 Pro
I will be connecting this to a 4K TV.
I am narrowing down my GPU options based on this link:
https://www.logicalincrements.com/articles/graphicscardcomparison
*Note: yes, I know a lot of people would say to for a Nvidia card but is it really worth the extra money for this kind of build?
My end goal here is to set up a build that last 2-3 years can handle 1080 (and hopefully 1440) that will cost under $700. Is this possible?
Thank you in advance!

This is an all white build with a focus on aesthetics. I have had suggestions from other subreddits but I think this can be further improved. The pc costs around 3k if you don't include things like the monitors , operating system, keyboard and mouse. I know the gpu isn't white but I will eventually upgrade it to an rog strix rtx 3070.
There may not be an easy way to do this, but I have my pc set up basically as a console, sits behind the tv, it’s only monitor output is the tv, and I only play games on it. I’m trying to get it to turn on like a console, meaning one button to turn on and steam auto opens and I can navigate with a controller. No need for a mouse and keyboard. Additionally the pc is in a hard to reach place so I have a wireless fob to power it on. The only problem with the set up is the relentless windows log in screen, I’ve tried every fix I could google, every registry edit, I’ve about given up and resigned to just having a wireless keyboard by the couch just to log in. I know it’s a minor thing and not the end of the world, but has anyone been able to have their pc set up so you can turn the computer on and basically use only a controller to navigate to your game library? Either by successfully getting by the login screen or being able to use your controller to log in?
Hello guys, I built a PC but I haven't bought it yet because I'm not sure about anything, I have a few questions. Can you help me please about them?

If you have any advice please tell me.
Thank you for your help.
The company we are going to buy the PCs from is IBUYPOWER. We have heard good things from them and realized getting a prebuilt would cost less than building it ourselves.

Hey guys may be asking a vague question but any help would be appreciated. I am wanting to switch from console to pc and am looking for recommendations. Pre-built vs building one on my own. Trying to stay below 1200. Mostly play cod and rocket league.
I don’t have a clue what to look for when looking so some of this may have to be dumbified for me lol.
Would it be a bad thing to buy a used pc?

Hello all. So i wanna kill the ps4 and move too PC. I have the cash and have a list of parts but wanna know what a good OS for a beginner is. Im not super good with tech. But i know a decent amount. Far past basics. I heard that linus arch is good but idk for sure
My aim is to wait until rtx 3070 releases and try to get one as soon as possible. In the meantime, I'd like to use this build below, mainly to test if all the other parts work.
Pc part picker says that this old gpu will fit into my b550 motherboard. But are there any problems that might occur if I do this? Back in the day this old gpu was already pretty bad lol

Hi all,
I bought Corsair Vengeance Pro Rgb RAM sticks (2 x 8gb) 3200MHz. Can I also use Corsair Vengeance RAM sticks (2 x8gb) which are 2666mHz?
Any insight would be great!
This may be a dumb question and you can remove me from here if you must, but I’m interested in getting into pc gaming but with 2 kids and a wife I don’t really have the space in my house for a desk for a pc setup. I was wondering is it possible to setup a tower to my tv and use it like a home console basically, or should I just get a gaming laptop and hook up to my tv that way?
The title is very misleading, when I first clicked on this subreddit I thought it was going to be something like videos of people smashing consoles or shoving cookies in the disk drive etc. What I got was different but I like it. I just think KillYourConsole doesn't suit it well. This is just my opinion.
Hey guys which do you guys recommend? Here's the specs of each
Precision: https://gyazo.com/dbec6fe18ffd82e4cbd210c2680a958b (SSD NVMe)
XPS: https://gyazo.com/3790702120dfff3073526b1bff81f46b
The XPS is one year older though
i plan on getting a high end b550 but im low on money and in 5 months i should have the money to get the mother board. please dont laugh.
My current desktop is a Dell XPS 8300 with an Intel Core i7 (not sure which model exactly, haven't checked that). It has a Windows 7 sticker so I know it's pretty old, and the graphics card it comes with (AMD Radeon HD 6770) is alright but another one I have (GT 640) performed better but doesn't work with my PC. I want to buy a new graphics card and CPU but I don't know any website that can help me with finding out if the hardware I get is compatible with my PC's motherboard. Would it be better if I just built a new computer from scratch?
I got the following setup and i am thinking about to get some new parts especially a new graphic card. I am not quiet sure about what would make a reasonable upgrade for that system atm.
-Intel Core i7 5820K 6x 3.30GHz So.2011-3 WOF
-4GB Asus GeForce GTX 970 STRIX OC Edition Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16 2xDVI / 1xHDMI 2.0 / 1xDisplayPort (Retail)
-Asus X99-A/USB 3.1 Intel X99 So.2011-3 Quad Channel DDR4 ATX Retail
-16GB (4x 4096MB) Corsair Vengeance LPX schwarz DDR4-3000 DIMM CL15-17-17-35 Quad Kit
-650 Watt be quiet! Power Zone CM Modular 80+ Bronze
-1000GB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe 1.3 3D-NAND TLC (MZ-V7E1T0BW)
Hey all,
New to posting on reddit, hope i'm winning!
I purchased ->https://www.newegg.com/abs-computer-technologies-versa-ali203/p/N82E16883102469?Item=N82E16883102469 a few years ago now. Now that NVIDIA has came out with the 3050+ cards, i'm thinking I want to be a brave boy and upgrade my pre-built gaming rig. Ideally I would be swapping out:
ANY help or guidance anyone can give me is mucho appreciada! Go easy on me, like I said, I'm new to this...
Much love! LewisAnnClark...
We have a dell poweredge t110 and I have a plan to upgrade it. What are compatible upgrades for this? (Most preferably graphics card) I don't have a budget so any price is okay
GPU: GTX 1060 6gb VRAM
CPU: Ryzen 7 1700x
RAM: Corsair Triton RGB, 32gb
MB: N/A (can't remember off the top of my head)
PSU: Corsair 850 watt
Cooling solution: standard heat sink/box fan setup
Any recommendations or issues with this setup?
I recently ordered an HP elitedesk 800 G2 I5 from a refurbisher on backmarket. seemed like a good deal at $130. I had researched it and felt it would be a good starter PC for my 9 year old son to start dabbling in gaming and PC builds. (He told me he wanted to stream fortnite from his xbox and make youtube videos. i know, right. lol!)
Anway, the refurbisher sent me instead an HP z400 workstation. of course, i believe this error was intentional as they say i can only return and they will not be able to send me the G2.....
Either way, are there any salvageable qualities in the z400? should i return it or can i make it work with some modifications? i believe the model is FM105UT. like a 2.6ghz xenon with 8gb ram and 500gb hard drive and windows 10 pro. it also has an nvidia quadro 600 graphics card which i 'm sure is useless at this point.
Thanks for the help!
I am building my first desktop for gaming and data science competitions. I wanted to have Ubuntu as the base and run Windows in a VM. Will this affect gaming performance by a huge bit ? Or should i do it the other way around?

Well first of all I'm new to reddit I just made an account and this is my first post. Usually I've only come to reddit before for reviews and help, which has been very useful. So considering that, I thought there'd be no better place then to ask for help but here. I've always wanted to get into gaming on PC, but never really had the money let alone know anything about it. I'm somewhat tech savvy wouldn't say too much. I'd say more than the average person, but not at all that advanced. With the prices going up on nextgen games, me needing a PC, and wanting to play games at full potential I thought it would be a good time to make a switch from consoles to PC. I was wondering what are some tips for new PC gamers about either buying or building your own PC. I honestly don't know anything about graphic cards, motherboards, and so on. Is there any websites that can maybe help me learn everything I need to know about gaming PCs? Any cheap but quality PC parts? I know gaming PCs aren't cheap to build, but I was thinking maybe I can upgrade parts as my money builds up.
I ordered the Cooler Master Masterbox MB511 ARGB which comes with 3 ARGB fans. I also ordered 2 PWM fans off of Amazon. My b450m-ds3h motherboard only has 1 system fan header, and one LED header for light strips.
I know I can get a fan splitter or a Hub but I'm confused on how I can get the ARGB fans to work, since a lot of Hubs don't have ARGB plug-ins (The Cooler Master ARGB PWM Hub is hard to find in Canada). The case comes with a ARGB controller, but I don't think there will be enough plug-ins.
I am wondering what the best option will be to hook up all of my fans?
Edit: second paragraph
First i should probably mention the fact that i haven't really played on or been a part of the computer world since DAOC, and that was back in 2007. So recently i've grown tired of the constant crap of dealing with console and decided it was time to make the switch to pc. I've done much research into it and really kinda need someone who can help understand alot of the more advanced "stuff". I've been searching prebuilds on ebay and amazon for 2 days, I don't technically know the parts i want but i know one thing for sure and thats what i don't wanna seen when I'm gaming so please help your friendly neighborhood...
Buying a PC. they are asking 400. is that a fair price?
Specs.

Hi, Looking to upgrade an old home-built PC (it's about 10 years old now), but I do not have the cash to go for a full new system. I use it mainly for gaming, and once upon a time I also used it for photo-editing using lightroom - so those are my general requirements. System specs are below, with my proposed upgrades (and costs) in italics.
Seeking advice on what might yield me the best improvements:
The beast (as surveyed by Speccy):
CPU: Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.67GHz (possibly i7-860 via eBay, plus CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo cooler if it will fit. Cooler under consideration anyway due to CPU running hotter than I would like. About €40 each item.)
RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (8-8-8-21)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. P55A-UD3 (Socket 1156)
Graphics: 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (Gigabyte)
Storage: Boot Drive: 298GB Western Digital WDC WD3200AAKS-00V1A0 ATA Device (SATA ) (change this to an SSD - WD Blue 250GB - ~€50 then repurpose the HDD to storage after cloning)
Storage Drive: 596GB Western Digital WDC WD6400AAKS-65A7B2 ATA Device (SATA )
Case: Olde Skool Coolermaster Elite 330 (not the 330U)
Total outlay - about €130, which wouldn't even cover the cost of a new motherboard if I was to go for full upgrade.
Questions/thoughts for the board:
Is the CPU upgrade worth it? Benchmarks from cpu-world seem to suggest it would be about 10% quicker overall?
Cooler upgrade - my only concern is that it seems huge; does anyone have one of these in a similar case/setup? It looks like it will be far more effective than the stock cooler, and quieter too (the noise of the stock cooler is bugging me if I am honest).
The SSD upgrade is a bit of a no-brainer - this should improve boot & response times no end.
Any thoughts or suggestions welcomed - I'm a bit out of the loop as far as PC building/upgrading is concerned, and like I say, I'm on a budget...
