/r/IndieDev
This is the place for indie devs and gamers to share anything, be it game development, their favorite games or just cool images, GIFs and music from an indie game in a casual community-run environment. If you're an indie gamer, this place welcomes you too! After all, every gamer is a potential indie developer!
This is a piece of /r/IndieDev history. If you want to start another /r/IndieDev game jam, message the moderators!
Generally GIFs and images are the community-preferred medium to get your idea across. Links to Steam, Kickstarter or YouTube don't get anyone's attention. Check out our top posts of all time to get an idea
Keep in mind that this is a community of developers and even though we're all gamers too, this isn't your audience per se, it's more like a room full of peers.
We have a community-run wiki with tips and tricks, related subreddits and helpful resources. There's a page to add your subreddit or website.
There are a lot of indie-dev-related communities on reddit, here's a full list, but the few in the sidebar/about-tab are a good place to start your reddit journey. They are friendly and active, but not overwhelmingly complicated.
That being said, there are no strict rules here, use common sense when you post and use that report button if you think you need to!
If you would like to do an AMA, add a game jam or any other event to the /r/IndieDev calendar, message the moderators!
For more information about submissions, you can check out the really detailed guidelines here.
Thanks!
Check out our list of indie development subreddits for more. It's community run, so add a subreddit!

I'm making my first commercial game, and while I'm a programmer, not an artist, the original art looked horrible. I've redesigned it because art is one of the most important aspects of a game—it draws people in. I would really appreciate your feedback. I aim to create art that is simple yet coherent and stands out.
This is what the art looked like in the past:
After watching many tutorials and studying references, I came up with this:
Is the new art better? What's missing or putting you off? Thank you so much!
I am referring to a 2D isometric puzzle game set in a dark, void-like office environment, accompanied by a mysterious soundtrack featuring acoustic guitar, wind chimes, deep reverberated resonant bells, and handpan. This game was created around the summer of 2012 on an indie development website created by a computer genius/guru from Texas, which later faced issues with moderation between 2014 and 2016.
Whatever this website was, one of the newer admitted admins from the Creator, who was absent because of the behind the sense controversy, had a relationship with a 16 year old girl. The Admin was 18, and this relation ship had been going on for awhile she had said in a popular post.
That post was the most rated and seen on the front page. She said that the admin's relationship has been unhealthy. The post was popular because of support by members of the website probably due to the admin being hated amongst the website for being too strict, and making up rules to ban anyone from the website, in the forums. Like misspelling, or making up accusations like knowing their age etc. Or making up "escuses" to be banned like being annoying. So he is a pretty hated figure, in this website at this time.
All other of the older staff left like within 5 months to a two years ago previously before i first saw the website. There was one user who had the most of best emotional intelligence and left 5 months before and made a statement of his mental health.
And the creator was on a hiatus, 5 months or more.
There was like 3 mods and 2 admins.
There was one bad admin who had this horrible relationship. And that's about it, after the admin left, the website felt easy or chill. The black background had been changed to this purple river type of digital drawing in the background or aurora. And felt melancholic, like I was alone yet people were still active on the site with a sad overtone like being alone, yeah the site was on its last legs.
And when i tried to find the website in 2017 when i was old enough to create an account the website was nowhere to be found.
Whatever website this was, I was not able to find proof of it, would you remember what website this was, or the game that one member of the site hosted on his portfolio?
I’m getting my AS in software engineering now with a work ready degree and I’ll also be taking extra certifications more for game development specifically and then after that, I would get my BS but I was wondering if anybody knows any game development companies based in Florida that would hire entry level software engineers or game designers??
On first big project and its starting to feel like its going to take 3 times as long as anticipated because if i do it i obviosuly want to make it good and enjoyable. I dont like the idea of releasing soemthing that was rushed or i didnt go to exactly what i invisioned for the game. I want to make it something that is really fun to play. The thing is i dont know wether its silly to strive for this perfection on a first game and spend another year and then release it and possibly it not do very well. I chose to make this game becasue even though i love the idea i though oh it will be a six month thing release and then i can start another game with much better skills from the beginning. im 4 months in and based on what i can see its probably going to take another 10 months or soemthing to get it finished. Im basically wondering if it is silly to invest these 10 months to get the game polished and something that is in my eyes a great product but not sure because it is a first game. Would it be better to you know not spend tooo much time on this, like try to finish it in the next 3 months and then release and start on a new project. has anyone had experience with this kind of situation? If the money made isnt going to be substantially different as it is obviosuly a first attempt at making something is it better to rush this release and start a new project because i know that with something new i immediately am going in with better knowledge and it would be designed better from the ground up as i now have experience.
bit of a rant there sorry haha just seeing if anyone else had similar situation and what their experienceswe were
It’s a look at the first village in my zelda-like. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
hello welcome to the Joe's Life blog and hello again. today we will be talking about a very special character in this lovely story named Halliday. what is important about this character you may ask? well, this story is about and revolves around Halliday despite the game being called "Joe's Life". how ironic right? what is Halliday like? he's kind of emo in his own way and is extremely passionate about playing the drums (he even has a drum-set in his room!) so yeah, that's Halliday for ya! if you have any questions about Halliday or Joe's Life, feel free to ask them. (Wishlist! Joe's Life on Steam)

Grinding in games is a polarizing subject.
Some people hate it, others enjoy it.
Many games tend to lean one way or the other:
(Games that require grinding simply require it.)
-The game requires zero grinding at all to complete it. (Games that don’t require make doing so a waste of time.)
Since I haven’t seen it done as equally as I’d like, I made a this devlog to talk through a way I attempt to please both sides with an optional crafting system.
I’d love to get your feedback on it. Thanks!
