/r/IndieDev
This is the place for indie devs and gamers to share anything, be it game development, their favorite games or just cool images, GIFs and music from an indie game in a casual community-run environment. If you're an indie gamer, this place welcomes you too! After all, every gamer is a potential indie developer!
This is a piece of /r/IndieDev history. If you want to start another /r/IndieDev game jam, message the moderators!
Generally GIFs and images are the community-preferred medium to get your idea across. Links to Steam, Kickstarter or YouTube don't get anyone's attention. Check out our top posts of all time to get an idea
Keep in mind that this is a community of developers and even though we're all gamers too, this isn't your audience per se, it's more like a room full of peers.
We have a community-run wiki with tips and tricks, related subreddits and helpful resources. There's a page to add your subreddit or website.
There are a lot of indie-dev-related communities on reddit, here's a full list, but the few in the sidebar/about-tab are a good place to start your reddit journey. They are friendly and active, but not overwhelmingly complicated.
That being said, there are no strict rules here, use common sense when you post and use that report button if you think you need to!
If you would like to do an AMA, add a game jam or any other event to the /r/IndieDev calendar, message the moderators!
For more information about submissions, you can check out the really detailed guidelines here.
Thanks!
Check out our list of indie development subreddits for more. It's community run, so add a subreddit!

I made an Extension Kit for Unity developers which simplifies usage of 150+ functions by letting you call them with a single line of code. It is 50% off and expires in three days.
What is Extension Kit?
Extension Kit is a powerful collection of 150+ C# extension methods designed to simplify Unity development. Each method is well-structured, editable, grouped, and providing single-line access.

I just released the first trailer for my game. Feedback was mixed, some excitement for the concept but people mentioned they didn’t really get a feel for the gameplay from the trailer.
What’s the best way to create a gameplay trailer without just doing a “let’s play” type of video? Are there any examples any of you really like?
For context the game genre is sports simulation so it’s difficult to make an engaging video as the game is heavily management focused.
Thanks in advance for any advice or examples!
Hello! I'm working on an **experimental album** that blends **rock, indie, pop, hip-hop**, and **electronic** elements, with themes of self-discovery, transformation, and fragmentation. It's also an **interactive project**, and I’m looking for talented **producers**, **musicians**, and **sound designers** who are excited about creating something unique and engaging. I’m offering **compensation** based on contributions and experience. The project is still in development, and I’d love to chat with anyone interested in collaborating! Please DM me for more details or send me examples of your previous work if you’re interested. Thanks!

Hello Reddit! I’m working on a solo project “adventure side scroller” for almost a year. Now as I made a story board for the game and followed the pipeline where the block out design was made first to avoid further back and forth design problems.
As a huge digital comic fun myself, I was thinking if the story board could be adapted to Comic development where I will showcase the actual story of the game without mechanics to new audience.
Main platforms that I found for digital distribution is: WebToon and I have some considerations to not spoil the game, to avoid small leaking of the story, etc etc.
What do you think of this idea guys?
You know that feeling when there's never a perfect time to show the first footage of a project? Well, here goes nothing!
Working on the Z-targeting system for my indie Metroidvania-Roguelite fusion, drawing from both classic Zelda games (for that sweet exploration and utility-based progression) and modern gems like Hades and Sifu (for their addictive replayability and dynamic storytelling). Can't wait to dive deeper into the overall design soon! As for the targeting system itself - it's running pretty stable now, with just a few minor tweaks left (all easy fixes). Next up is adding proper strafing/backward animations before moving on to implement a punchy combat system that'll really bring it all together. 🎮
