Saturday Viewing Spot Recs.

Good morning! Fellow B1G’er seeking advice from the local experts. I will be visiting MSP in the coming weeks with a group and we were curious if there are any breweries that are best to watch the Saturday slate of games, preferably in Minneapolis?

We are somewhat open to bars as well, though are seeking larger spaces since we’ll be in a group. Thanks all!

Pitlick?

Anyone got an update or opinion on him coming back or not? Doesn’t seem like he’s NHL bound & we got Wood. Personally I always liked Pitty, I hope he comes back

Meetup spots for Gophers vs UCLA?

We’re planning on heading out to UCLA friday evening and we’re looking for where gopher fans may be congregating outside of the official tailgate stuff. Any thoughts would be great!

Do you think the Gophers would have more fan support if they were based outside the cities?

Just a hypothetical. Obviously program success is a bigger factor, but I was thinking of Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa, PSU, etc. These schools are outside of the biggest population centers in their state and therefore aren’t competing with other attractions. Their towns center around their university.

Football tailgate spots?

A couple friends and I are going to our first Gophers game. We will be looking to drink beers and have some fun - where do you guys suggest we go to have a good tailgate?

Also, we will not be driving. Just looking for some beers and chill.

What to do before game this Saturday?

My husband and I are going to the football game vs. Nevada this Saturday. We’re bringing our 14-year-old son and his friend (same age). Are there any activities in the Huntington stadium area that are suitable for 14-year-olds to pass a few hours before the game starts?

UNC Game Weather FYI

You all might want to bring a raincoat or poncho and make sure your phone is charged up. The National Weather Service is pretty certain about a thunderstorm on Thursday night and lightning within six (IIRC) miles of the stadium will send us to a 30 minute delay. Won't be nearly as bad as last night, at least.

Parking for the UNG game

Hey all,

I'll be going to the UNC game on Thursday and I'm trying to figure out where I can park and not get stuck in crazy traffic. I know that the state fair makes it very difficult to park and be there on time car the first game of the year. I went to the game vs Ohio St. in 2021 and got stuck in traffic so bad that I didn't get in the stadium until the 2nd quarter (I parked in the east river ramp road). Is West Bank super busy for first games of the year? Of so what would yalls strategy be?

Go play like champions, Gophers

Ninety years ago, our Golden Gophers set out on a remarkable three year journey of back to back to back Football national championships. It is remarkable and unique achievement that has yet to be repeated.

Leading the charge was a young quarterback named Bud Wilkinson. Bud is one of the most legendary people to have ever stood on the field of my alma mater, the University of Oklahoma.

A 47 game winning streak from 1953 to 1957, an overall record at Oklahoma of 145-29-4, 14 conference championships, 3 national championships, and a winning record against Texas while remaining undefeated vs. Oklahoma State.

And behind all of that was the slogan that Bernie Bierman used to motivate Wilkinson and those legendary championship teams: "Go, play like champions today!"

I was down at OU a few months ago where that slogan is plastered up in a lot of places outside the football stadium. It got me thinking a lot about how these two programs have such an important piece of shared history. Oklahoma never becomes the program it is today without Bud Wilkinson. "Play like a champion today" doesn't become the rallying cry and the ethos of the team without Bernie Bierman.

This is all to say, as an OU alumnus and fan, thank you. We couldn't have done it without Bud. But as a Gopher fan, having seen this team up close, I'm asking y'all to believe in this team. In my heart of hearts, nothing is off the table. If there is a quarterback capable of leading this kind of team to a national championship or a Big Ten Championship or even the damn Sun Bowl, it's Max Brosmer.*

So let's make it a great year. Believe in this team. They can accomplish something very special. And even if we end up back in Detroit playing Ball State or whoever, y'all can sit with me and we'll cheer like it's a goddamned natty.

Let's go play like champions this season! RowTheBoatSki-U-MahGoGophers!!

this "I was gonna go to bed at 9:30pm but wait it's 3am" ramble brought to y'all by this question

*I would actually really like to see the Sun Bowl.

GopherSports FB Tix Price Drop?

Does UM official ticket site drop prices the closer it gets to the game? UNC tickets in the same section/row are now $22 cheaper on GopherSports than when they first went on sale. I thought that type of demand pricing was for the ticket resellers.

FB Open Practice Tonight

Gotta say I'm incredibly impressed with the progress Max Brosmer made over the summer, thinking back to his already impressive performance at the spring practices.

Making the right connections with Daniel Jackson and the other WRs, going through his reads efficiently and accurately, checking down to the running backs, especially Darius Taylor and my personal favorite* Marcus Major.

I'm also really impressed with Marcus Major, this is the first time I've gotten to see him play IRL. He had some injury problems at OU but he also can be an effective playmaker and had some clutch rushes during his time in Norman. He was coached by OU legend DeMarco Murray who was the successor to Adrian Peterson when he played at OU.

As for our other QBs, I only saw Drake Lindsay taking snaps, he has a lot of promise but is still rough around the edges. Dylan Wittke transferred in from Virginia Tech as a redshirt freshman. It'll be curious to see who might be QB 2 this season.

Only 26 days until it's time to row the boat! Let's gooooo Gophers!

*we're from the same neighborhood in Oklahoma City and I have two degrees from OU
